- Look at the state we're in...In World Outside The Window·14 September 2020I've deliberately avoided commenting on America's troubles for a while, God knows we've got enough of our own, what with the Covid situation, Brexit and Boris the Buffoon's rancid Tory government, but... I've been watching the ongoing crisis in the United States with horror. Interviews with Trump supporters at his recent rallies reveal the ugly backside of American politics. The people crowding together with neither masks nor social distancing to worship at the feet of the foul priest Trump should sicken every decent person in America. The ignorance on display is breathtaking. His supporters spout all kinds of dangerous nonsense, some saying that the pandemic is 'just a hoax designed to destroy America'. (No, pal, it's you that's destroying America.) The whole Trump cult has brainwashed and hijacked the Republican party, (and a way too large number of 'The American People.') Facts, evidence and science don't mean a thing to these gullible dupes. It seems we're witnessing the slow death of a once great nation as Trump feeds his ego and leads the country down into the sewer. Joe Biden may not be the best politician in America but he can't possibly be worse than Trump. Time to vote Trump out of office and hopefully regain some of what has so sadly been lost...93444604

- END OF AN ERA...In William's World·8 September 2022I have never really considered myself a royalist, but I feel a real sadness and sense of loss at the passing of Queen Elizabeth today. She always seemed a dedicated monarch with integrity, decency and grace. And despite her wealth and obviously elitist position, seemed to genuinely care about the people and situations she had to deal with in her long reign. I was four years old when I watched her being crowned Queen, in 1952, live on a television set my father had constructed in the back garden outhouse of our home at 28, Conistone Crescent on Eastmoor Estate in Wakefield. Several of our neighbours were invited in to our front room to witness the Coronation broadcast as very few people owned television sets on our street. The flickering, fuzzy black and white images that appeared on the small cathode ray tube of Dad’s home made TV set were, to my four year old self, sometimes fascinating, sometimes boring, but I sensed the importance of the event. I can still hear the voice of Richard Dimbleby who was the BBC’s commentator for the broadcast. It all seemed so important and momentous. She seemed a quite young and not unattractive woman with a certain innocence and naivety but also with a strong resolve, (though I say that on reflection as I wouldn't have known how to put it in words at that time.) Like most of us, my life has been accompanied by her long reign as Queen, (though I was born when her father was on the throne.) I've sometimes poked fun or poured scorn on the antics of the Royal Family, but always had respect for Queen Elizabeth. There always was something gently commanding, yet humble about her. In more recent years I once, accidentally, saw the Queen in person when her car drove past me whilst I was walking in York. She apparently had attended an event at York Minster and a number of people had gathered to wave at her when she departed. I'd wondered why these people were standing on the pavement by the Minster, then saw why when the Queen’s car drove by. As she waved to the crowd, for a brief moment, her eyes met mine. It was a strange, almost eerie moment. Now history changes and we are witness to it. We have a King, a man who, like myself, is 73, almost 74 years old. We were both born in 1948, only a couple of years after WW 2. My mother always liked to reminded me that Charles and I were born in the same year. So, I wish him well. But it's truly the end of an era. Rest in peace...13462232

- Billy Duffy praises Bill NelsonIn William's World17 February 2025It's a great interview Alec, one of their best, imho...and he's talking exactly about the music scene and bands that I followed at that time. He's a great guy, tons of musical knowledge. I met him when he played in Kirk Brandon's Theatre of Hate and we briefly talked about Bill. He's a big fan. Wouldn't it be great if the Rockonteurs got Bill on the show?!!...That would be a cracker.😎23
- YorkshireIn William's World·12 February 2025I just stumbled on an interview with Michael "Woody" Woodmansey: https://youtu.be/XlsZZqmvC6U In it, he mentioned he was from Yorkshire along with Mick Ronson. Somebody I know and love is from Yorkshire so I was wondering if Mr. Magnetism himself knew them back in the day? Not being from the area, the premise could be akin to me knowing someone from California but given the nature of the work they were involved in, I was curious about any possible relationships.37172
- Rick BucklerIn World Outside The Window19 February 2025It took me a while to appreciate them. I was more of a rock/prog head back then. (It was still the 70's after all! Oh wait...not much has changed😉) The turning point was seeing them live when they opened for Be Bop Deluxe in April 1978 (BBD/Jam/Horslips).11
- My Private Cosmos - initial impressionIn William's World·16 December 2021Listened to the first 3 discs this afternoon (halfway in) and my first impression is that this set is SPECIAL! There’s something in it for everyone; from the more introspective, personal songs, to rock, funk, jazz, blues, and even dare I say it, some pop. The sheer breadth of music on offer is truly astonishing. This is a journey to be savoured, with many aural delights to be enjoyed along the way; including for those looking for them – some truly wonderful guitar solos and breaks (note, they’re in Bill’s 2020’s style though – not the 1970’s). What did take me by surprise, I’m not too sure why, but that’s how accessible it is, even on the first listen. I’m actually finding the listening experience to be quite uplifting and it’s making me feel, despite all the worrying things happening in the world at present and as strange as it sounds, fairly upbeat and optimistic. I’d even go so far as to say, with a booster jab and by listening to My Private Cosmos, we will get through it! I think I was probably expecting much of the music to be more ‘challenging’ given the circumstances and period Bill composed and recorded it, however My Private Cosmos wears its heart and charms on its sleeve and IMHO will be enjoyed by all those who truly appreciate Bill’s musical world. I would love to offer up some song titles as being my personal ‘stand outs’ however, at this stage the list would have to be most of the 47 tracks I’ve listened to so far! In summary, my thoughts on the package as a whole; yes, it’s a given that it’s not an inconsiderable financial outlay for most people, but I would say to anyone who is able to, get a copy now while you can and bring a bit of pure joy into your life. I honestly think you wouldn’t regret it; the words of Keats come to mind ‘A Thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever’. And for those waiting for their copy to arrive; you’re not going to like this one – you’ll LOVE it!!8943974

- The return of Trump - what next?In World Outside The Window17 February 2025Mmmm, and getting even more dangerous; someone likened Trumps' political approach to ' a chimp with a chainsaw' - darkly funny - gallows humour, perhaps? Oh, and an audience member on a politics talk show opined that ' Palestinians and Ukranians should just ''suck it up'' ( regarding their loss of freedom of self-determination) - easy when it isn't you, of course.1

Any background info on this Jon? BTW, imho, I do think Woody gets decent recognition for his drumming talents, but outside Bowie fans appreciation, I never thought Trevor Bolder really got/gets the accolades he deserved as a top bass player. Just my thoughts. Great pic😎👍 ..Mick Ronson Memorial concert?3
