- My beloved sister. In World Outside The Window·26 August 2023I have been debating whether or not to make this post, which is deeply personal but which may be the usual 'shouting into a hurricane'. On April 5th, this year, I found my uniquely wonderful sister dead in her room in the house which we had shared for many years. She had been suffering from a number of worsening and untreatable conditions for over fourteen years and, even though her unstoppable descent made her life increasingly awful, she was valiant and uncomplaining - my hero if ever I had one. She was incredibly clever, resourceful, kind, empathetic, generous, creative and witty, and for all that she was, a far better sister than I deserved. Since my sisters' death, I have, by choice or necessity been talking to others about my sister, and am utterly disgusted with the casual cruelty, lack of compassion and indifference which is common on our planet - I even had one person telling me that 'in my best interest' I should stop thinking about my sister, my loss, and the horrors which were visited upon her - and how glad am I to call Earth my home!!! When I dare to complain about peoples' open insensitivity, I have been met with a litany of excuses including the famous 'people don't know what to say', (balls), which is truly amazing as I have been confronted by stony faces and tropes such as 'life goes on', and 'death is part of the cycle of life'. This last one was said to me as most adults would patronise a child for being hurt at the loss of their pet hamster which served only to add to my grief- classic homo sapien. I am allowed to grieve, I am allowed to hurt, and I am allowed for this to never leave me. I remembered that Bill had posted loving comments about those whom he has lost, and hope that maybe he and a few others may relate to the hopelessness of feeling tha a door has closed forever and the lifelong helplessness of never being able to be with one of those rare people who are utterly precious to oneself. I was told to 'only remember the good times', as if editing the misery and suffering from my sisters' past is a good and wholesome thing - this would be disrespectful and a dishonour to my sister' memory. I feel certain that we should take a hard look at ourselves, and the galaxy-sized gap between how we choose to see ourselves and the awful realiuty of what we are - if I was a weaker person and needed a shoulder upon which to cry, well, it's not there. I am lucky that she was my sister, unlucky to have lost her and she, the unluckiest of all to have been made to suffer ( we were the 'lucky' recipients of 'cruel to be kind' parental 'love'). I have taken the liberty of including a beautiful image of my awesome sister as she deserves tribute to be paid to her. Thanks for your indulgence.26276

- Pirate CDRs on eBayIn William's World·21 July 2023Someone has just started selling CDRs on eBay, created from downloads of Bill's albums. Four in the first batch, with more to come. I suggest that Bill, or his authorised representative, hotfoot it over to there and tell them to desist. Here's one link, ONLY to help Bill find them - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354914714665?hash=item52a290c429:g:jB8AAOSwTA9ksaZK DON'T BUY THEM! And if you are the person selling them, it's illegal and you are an arsehole. Later edit: have just reported them to eBay.26429

- PhotosIn World Outside The Window24 September 2023Did you take this shot VP?...I'ts a really cool street-shot and I think you got the exposure pretty much spot on = nice one!.. If you did, you ought to follow it up, under similar lighting conditions and do a documentary style photo-project, capturing frontages and signs along the strip, before they're gone..put your slant on it. I really like this shot..😎👍 Such a pity if they were to bulldoze it..2

- Just got the Art/Empire/Industry Box set for Christmas! In William's World·25 December 2022Very happy about it. I love the pictures, poster and the book, and the new stereo mix is great. I do have a question about the lyrics part of the book however. In the instrument list it says that they used an "STS 3 SYNTHESISER DRUMS". Tried looking for it but can't find anything other than the Simmons SDS 3. Is this what they meant? An answer is much appreciated. Otherwise; the booklet is a great treasure trove of information!26142

- Single Track of the DayIn World Outside The Window1 November 2024Yes indeed, and good points Alec. It's one of my favourite Stones tracks. I remember listening to a short interview of Keith Richards, where he explained that the raw, almost aggressive sound, came about from building much of it (in the studio) around an initial cassette recording. I think Richards laid down the main guitar riff on a Phillips cassette player and the rest of the band (especially Jagger) really liked the distortion and compression, as a result. So, in the final mix, they emphasized the "boxy" sound from the cassette recording, giving the track its gritty, urgent vibe. A cool lo-fi appeal, that also added an 'explosive' quality. So this song certainly has a unique sonic character.2
- Please Forgive Me, but.........In William's World·30 July 2020Sorry to invade on William's World, but I just feel that this is so important for our UK forum members - I can't comment on what is happening elsewhere. Please continue to wash hands regularly, particularly after coming home. Observe social distancing and use masks where appropriate. IMHO there is a second wave of Corona virus infection coming so let's keep ourselves safe from this dreadful virus. Trust me I'm a scientist :) Roger26295

- Potential Bill Nelson album covers. In The World And His Wife23 November 2024DIY is do it yourself. In the thread of Potential Bill Nelson Covers, it is a suggested cover for a collection of Bill associated songs from a time spent in Japan in the past. The title and imagery are perfect for the project. I curated a playlist that has Bill playing on the tune, writing the lyrics or producing the group - such as Gillcover & the Monkey. Wadcorp actually assembled it. I had worked with him on a similar project: Singles of the Twentieth Century - the All My Wifes Were Iron covers - 2 cd set. You, sir, have created a Bill Nelson Cover for those who have those songs and would like to burn a physical disc. This is a throwback to the days when we would do Dreamsville Projects and citizens would contribute songs around a theme in a timely manner. To use a phrase - they were instantly yours. Your creativity and vision have been recognized by Dreamsville Citizens.2

- END OF AN ERA...In William's World11 September 2022A chance for reflection of the past 70 years that had her always in the background smiling and waving from some balcony or other, the head of the establishment that has no democratic power but actually owns about about an eighth of the worlds resources and land over what once was the british empire but is now the commonwealth. I can't understand those who had a picture of her as someone 'good' for the country, someone who is 'other' than a politician and therefore absolved of the sins of her prime ministers, army, airforce, navy and military intelligence services, after all they were always on display every year on her two birthdays for all of us to see. The british have had the royal family rammed down our throats since the day we were born, royal this and royal that, 'god save our gracious queen' at daily school assembly, their history taught to us as children as if it was something to be proud of, social history ? no! none of that, at least in my own education. I'm of the rock n roll generation, born in 1957, grew up listening not only to the music but also to the message and I have never wavered in my attitude to the establishment and just because a little old lady has died I won't change. She was born into privilege at the disadvantage of others, didn't work, didn't even have to dress herself, looked down on her subjects and never ever spoke up about what was being done in the name of her country, let alone her own family. I'm of the belief that when a human being dies, that persons brain searches the memory for the defining moment of their life to take with them into infinity, that moment when your life flashes before your eyes. You can take something wonderful or something bad depending on your life experiences, if you have done wrong and not been forgiven you'll take that with you, if you've been wronged and haven't forgiven you'll take that with you, This is the definition of heaven and hell for as your last thought expires with you it will seem to last forever, I wonder what the queen took with her when she went as she had an awful lot of wrongs to ponder and one can't forgive oneself.26
