..actually posted before Bill's reply comment to alec appeared...strange, but there you go.
...now the timelines are correct, after a refresh.......oh well, lol.
I would like to add as possible candidates Cecil Taylor, Duke Ellington, Stan Tracey, Sun Ra, Reginald Dixon, Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, George Shearing, Earl Hines, Brian Wilson and Joe Zawinul.
Pretty much spot on, Alec, though, to be honest, I've never thought that much about keyboard influences as I've never considered myself to be any good as a keyboard player. I just about get by, that's all and truly envy those with real keyboard skills. People like Duke Ellington, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Count Basie, Errol Garner, Oscar Peterson, etc are simply marvellous pianistic artists. But, perhaps my dear departed friend Harold Budd has had one of the most profound influence on my piano playing, though I can hardly claim to be in Harold's exalted league. Still, I hope my guitar playing makes up for my pianistic shortcomings! 😉
Eric Satie for one...
Great question. I’ve never even thought of that before. 🙏
