- Track SearchIn World Outside The Window3 July 2025It’s Clock Conscious from Iconography by Orchestra Arcana that you’re thinking of. It’s Conductor 71 from the Archers (Powell & Pressburger) film “A Matter Of Life And Death” (1946). - In praise of Optimism (1988)In William's World·21 June 2025I love this album. What can you say...? Totally unique, visionary, certainly influential (although perhaps doesn't always get the credit it's due - it was recorded 40 years ago, btw!). It has a strange cinematic feel for me, heightened by those two amazing concluding tracks (bonus tracks on the 1988 CD version, I think) with their surreal film-noir otherness. 'Short Wave' - wow! Same atmospheric universe as the track "My Dream Demon"? Both would serve as perfect end-credits music for a film which has left an audience stunned. Optimism - Orchestra Arcana64249

- Lalo Schifrin (1932-2025)In World Outside The Window·26 June 2025Schifrin's best known compositions included the themes from Mission: Impossible and Mannix, as well as the scores to Cool Hand Luke (1967), Bullitt (1968), THX 1138 (1971), Enter the Dragon (1973), The Four Musketeers(1974), Voyage of the Damned (1976), The Eagle Has Landed (1976), The Amityville Horror (1979), and the Rush Hour trilogy (1998–2007). Schifrin was also noted for collaborations with Clint Eastwood from the late 1960s to the 1980s, particularly the Dirty Harry series of films. He composed the Paramount Pictures fanfare used from 1976 to 2004. From Wikipedia2470
- YouTubeIn World Outside The Window27 June 2025(The rise of the CPU God.) ..It points to a deeper crisis in how reality is being interpreted, especially by those immersed in online spaces where affirmation is fast, shallow and often unmoored from fact. When someone says they 'input a secret code', or something of the like, into ChatGPT and it 'revealed itself as God', as several do in this video, what you’re likely seeing imo, is a blend of a desire for meaning or significance in a world that feels increasingly unstable, low digital literacy and/or actual human intellect, where the ability to distinguish simulation from sentience just hasn’t been developed, or understood/recognised, and algorithmic narcissism, where people start mistaking what the machine reflects back (often based on them) as some kind of divine message...and in some cases, perhaps a bit of online performance art or delusion that spirals into genuine belief. Sad really. The virtual world is now a primary space of identity formation, especially for many Gen Z users, often more so than family, school, college/uni, church or even real life friendships. That constant immersion in filtered, hyper-optimized, feedback-driven systems, think TikTok, Instagram, and yes, ChatGPT and the like, can displace their grip on what’s real, especially if real life feels somewhat less than mediocre, unrewarding, etc. Again, a sad state of affairs... These environments are shaping cognitive habits, shortening attention spans, lowering thresholds for boredom, and in some cases encouraging a kind of digital animism, seeing life where there is none, divinity where there is only code. If the user is already fractured or desperate for connection, they may well start seeing what they want to see = God, a friend, a mind, even a path to immortality...A network religion.1

- Sassafras..anyone else remember them?In World Outside The Window23 June 2025I saw Sassafras loads of times in Middlesbrough in the 70’s. It seemed like they were there about every other week. I always thought they were a lot better live than on vinyl. On stage they sounded less over produced. The live, raw sound was far better in my opinion. The live music scene was so much better in those days. We had about 4 decent venues in the area and there was always someone worth going to see and at much more affordable prices than today. I was only on a low wage but could still afford to go to at least two gigs a week. Imagine that at today’s ticket prices to see anyone!! Just sat listening to their first album and reminiscing about the good days PS. Be Bop Deluxe weren’t bad either when I saw you!!11

- PhotosIn World Outside The Window20 June 2025It was my late mum & dad's 75th wedding anniversary recently, so we took flowers to the grave, had a general tidy etc and enjoyed a peaceful stroll around the churchyard. Whilst in the oldest section of the cemetery, I took a few shots of various headstones and monuments. One that really caught my eye, in the quite harsh sunlight/hard shadows, was a really impressive, classically influenced piece of Victorian funerary architecture, a 6 foot stone monument and it's layered, receding cornices/mouldings. I would guess early to mid - 1800s, and what struck me was the visual similarity with this, to Japanese temple roofs, Japanese pagodas, which often feature a stacked, receding tier structure = heavy overhangs with shadow-play. While the intent is different, the visual similarity is quite striking. The converging aesthetics speak to the universality of tiered, shadow-rich forms in architecture across cultures. A connection quite often overlooked, I would imagine.12

- Building a Supergroup Version of...In The World And His Wife·18 June 2025I am a home hobbyist producer and a teenager woken-up by BBD back in the 70's. I build Songs (covers) in an unusual way, I start by assembling the band members to channel the essences off... (in-depth research of equipment , sounds and nuance) This project I have co-opted : Drums = Neil Peart Bass = Chris Squire Keys = Vangelis Guitar = Prince Vocals = (some AI voice) like Demis Roussos or Alex Harvey My Question is.... given this lineup... which Be Bop Deluxe song should I cover?.... Any input?1469
