- Recommend some limited edition physical releases…In World Outside The Window·7 November 2022🌟 A thread to recommend limited editions on CD, Vinyl or Cassette, where copies are still available to buy at the time of adding – No ‘download only’ options as they aren't limited – Physical editions only please (download might be free with physical). No need to mention Bill’s CDs here either, as thankfully we all hear about those anyway – I’m thinking releases by other artists that might be somewhere under the radar, or even over the rainbow! 😍 I’ll start with this fabulous 15-track album for lovers of darkly atmospheric, yet beautiful music – evoking melancholy with moments of light that together make a peaceful whole. For me, this album is a stunning piece of work and with the lush packaging it really is a joy to behold. One of my favourite albums from recent times – put on headphones, turn off lights, relax and drift into wonder! Lullabies For The Lost’ by Peter James & Jenny Jo Oakley. Jenny Jo Oakley: vocals, piano, guitar, accordion, clarinet, flute & percussion. Peter James: soundscapes, vocal arrangements, bells, field recordings, spoken word, production, mixing & mastering. • Strictly limited to 50 copies only, the CD comes in a foil printed A5 box, complete with 16-page A5 printed booklet containing paintings (by Jenny Jo) & photographs (by Peter). It also comes with a set of 3 high quality A5 prints, with each package being unique as no set of prints are the same. Listen at the Bandcamp link and if you want one, grab a copy while still available! • Peter James is an ambient musician, sound designer, engineer, producer and photographer, currently living in Scotland. For 7 years he was a full-time member of global music collective 48 Cameras (founded by Jean Marie Mathoul) with a changing line-up that included guests such as Martyn Bates (Eyeless in Gaza), Michael Begg (award-winning sound artist) and Robin Rimbaud (Scanner), among others. He’s released albums under his own name and collaborated with ambient maestro Steve Brand, Nick Grey & the Random Orchestra, Dean Richards (under the name Still Earth). He’s mastered albums for artists such as Leanna Primiani (award-winning classical composer), Chronotope Project, Broken Harbour, plus others including compilations for earthMantra label. Also of interest is that Peter’s brother is Mark Beazley (founder of the band Rothko) and they’ve worked briefly together in the past. • Jenny Jo Oakley is a painter and musician based in Portland, Oregon, USA. She records a type of neo-folk music and has released two solo albums under her project name Empty Vessel Music. I hope some of you enjoy my recommendation and it’ll be interesting to see which releases other forum users will add to this thread 😎210166
- RIP Gary WrightIn World Outside The Window·5 September 2023Well, fellow redditors, I feel that, erm, a cringe L moment happened yesterday to say the least. While everyone was sad that the guy from smash mouth died or whatever, people didn't even notice that Gary Wright, also known as Gay Numan, had passed away yesterday on September the 4th, 2023. Though he was fairly obscure and my dad doesn't like him, he will always be known and remembered as an inspiration and as the gayest straight synth musician of the 70s, possibly ever. His music has changed the lives/hearts of countless people, with classics like Dream Weaver, best known for being included in the Wayne's World soundtrack. Additionally, his 1975 album, also coincidentally titled Dream Weaver, was created with the artistic intent to have no guitars, only synths! Fellow bassists, let's salute this outstanding creation. Bassists, assemble! Synthheads, unite! But regardless of your opinions on this guy, he has undoubtedly had a memorable impact on music, and will be remembered as such. Huzzah!210191

- American ProtestsIn World Outside The Window·7 January 2021Like the world, am totally SHOCKED about what happened at Capital Hill. Donald Trump is vile, and really incited that violence. Utterly disgraceful, and an attack on democracy itself. Shame Love to peaceful and law abiding Americans. Peace to you all, and to the entire planet. C 🌻210124

- Thomas 'Mensi' Mensforth, RIPIn World Outside The Window·12 December 2021Just learned today the sad news that Mensi of the Angelic Upstarts has passed away (yesterday, I believe) aged 65, after a recent battle with Covid. Can't imagine too many people here being into the Upstarts, I can only think of myself and Radium Girl, but they were a great band back in the day, an anti-fascist/working class punk band formed in South Shields in 1977, who had some powerful songs and were always good live. 'I'm An Upstart' remains a punk classic........other songs of note include, 'The Murder Of Liddle Towers', 'Teenage Warning', 'Police Oppression', 'Leave Me Alone', 'Never 'Ad Nothing' Mensi, far left ...always loved the band logo, and the cover art for this single It was of it's time, of course it was, but that's how it was always meant to be! I'm An Upstart still sounds fresh and vibrant today, and, in this case, is still relevant.210442

- YorkshireIn William's World·12 February 2025I just stumbled on an interview with Michael "Woody" Woodmansey: https://youtu.be/XlsZZqmvC6U In it, he mentioned he was from Yorkshire along with Mick Ronson. Somebody I know and love is from Yorkshire so I was wondering if Mr. Magnetism himself knew them back in the day? Not being from the area, the premise could be akin to me knowing someone from California but given the nature of the work they were involved in, I was curious about any possible relationships.37173

- WILLIAM'S WONDERFUL WORLD OF GUITARS. (A personal series of six string sentiments...)In William's World27 July 2022I've not been so excited about a new guitar, in quite some time. Really loving this drop-dead gorgeous Ernie Ball Music Man St.Vincent signature guitar..😎 The original St.Vincent signature guitar design features a lightweight Okoume body, premium roasted maple neck, and a rosewood fretboard. The roasted maple neck is highly figured and is adorned with St. Vincent signature custom inlays. Specially configured electronics package includes 3 Dimarzio mini-humbuckers with 5-way pickup selector for a unique offering of tonal options. This is the high-end version, priced at $2800, but it is fabulous. I know someone in the States who has one, and he can't wax lyrical enough. I've not bought a premium guitar in a while, but am seriously tempted with this. This is the Vincent Blue model Super Bad, Super Cool44

- Air Age, It's arrived, a weighty package, looks great, but where do I start ? 😃😃In William's World30 August 2021Well, I'm just blown away by this boxset. The sound quality is amazing and as for the musicianship, I'm near speechless. I went to the second Leeds concert. At the time, I'd just started going to gigs and I had been hugely disappointed by just how poor some of my favourite bands were live compared to their studio output. Be Bop Deluxe, though - well, just the opposite. Live, they went way beyond their studio material and it was the first time I had experienced that (The next time would be Graham Parker and the Rumour). I can recall being both ecstatic about the performance but also a bit upset leaving the Grand that I would be unlikely to be able to hear Bill's music played that way again. The original album release went some way to compensate. It was good but something seemed lacking, a bit too smooth, perhaps, and I questioned my memory. Well, 44 years later, I can say my memory was fine. The concert material is every bit as good as I remember it.44
- All The Fun Of The Fair NEW CD Album Release Pre-Order For Friday 3rd November 2023In William's World·5 October 2023Getting a pre order prompt from burning shed for a new title album from the citizen cd album title ''All The Fun Of The Fair'' Friday November 3rd apparently : An all-new 2023 studio release from the ever creative Mr Bill Nelson. "All The Fun Of The Fair is a merry-go-round of an album, recorded in 2022. Its 16 tracks take the listener on a colourful journey, with the 'Fair' of the album's title representing a metaphoric symbol for life itself. Song-based vocal tracks make up the majority of the contents along with just a few instrumental interludes. I hope you'll enjoy its various rides and mysterious sideshows!" - Bill Nelson, October 2023 CD in jewel case.44200
- Been a while....In William's World·28 February 2024Hello All Been a while since I last looked in. I'm a little remiss in keeping up with Bill's releases although I still get updates. Hope everyone is ok - I sadly have had a neurological issue come up. Muscular System Atrophy- Cerebellar whereby I have difficulty in keeping balance and have poor speech. My legs are weak too but others that have this are in worse condition than me. Cognitively I'm ok - memory is good and I've just signed up for clinical trials - although I may get the placebo. Must have a look to see what posts I've missed. Here's a couple of videos of Be Bop I just heard about - looks like they were just put up (but not by me). (6) Be Bop Deluxe Live 1978 Midnight Special Burbank - YouTube Be Bop Deluxe Live 1976 Don Kirshner's Rock Concert Los Angeles (youtube.com) Dave Edit - I didn't realize I posted in Williams World - sorry about that. Let me know if it needs deleting and reposting.44341

- Bowie On BillIn William's World·8 January 2024Just out of idle curiosity, because Albert's Intestines wanted to know if I'd like to chat with Bing's Chat GTP 4 about David Bowie, I decided to chat with Bing's Chat GTP 4 about David Bowie. I asked "What did David Bowie say about Bill Nelson or Be Bop Deluxe ?". The Great Assimilator replied: "According to my web search results, here are some things that David Bowie said or implied about them: • He admired Bill Nelson’s guitar playing and songwriting skills, and invited him to collaborate on his 1977 album Low. However, Nelson declined the offer, saying he wanted to pursue his own musical vision1.(https://www.loudersound.com/features/why-i-ziggy-stardust-by-be-bop-deluxes-bill-nelson) • He was aware of Be Bop Deluxe’s glam rock image and music, but he did not consider them as rivals or copycats. He once said, "I don’t mind Be Bop Deluxe. They’ve got their own thing going, and it’s nothing to do with me."2(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Be-Bop_Deluxe) • He was also influenced by Be Bop Deluxe’s experimental sound and production, especially on their albums Futurama and Sunburst Finish. He praised John Leckie, who produced both Be Bop Deluxe and some of Bowie’s albums, as "a genius"3.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axe_Victim) "44619
- Powertron CD pre-order from Burning ShedIn William's World6 April 2024This sounds great! 'an album of left-field rock songs, mainly vocal but layered with loud and edgy guitars'... speakin' my language. Alas, I will have to wait for a Bandcamp release. I am just not willing to pay the extra import and handling costs for purchases from out the EU. 😥44
- 2 COOL GUITARS.In William's World·21 February 2019Just would like to point out that the two colourful guitars to the left and right of this central forum page are instruments which were generously given to me by fans for my 70th birthday celebrations. The white and green one on the left is a Backlund Super 100 model, (made by Eastwood Guitars,) and the red and white one on the right is a 'Space Cadet', made by Musicvox guitars. I've been using both instruments on a couple of recent recordings but the Musicvox is now over at 'Single Coil Guitar Repairs' in Leeds having a Duesenberg 'Les Trem' vibrato fitted, along with a complete fret dress and set-up. I'm hoping to get this back sometime next week when it will once again be pressed into service in my studio. So, I'd like to say a big THANK YOU to all the fans who contributed towards these two wonderful gifts. I'll always treasure them as a reminder of what kind and warm people you all are...thanks so much! At the rehearsal for 'Plectronica.' Me and my camera. (Photo by Martin Bostock.
