- Reflections of a better timeIn William's World·2 January 2021At the start of 2021, I revisited an old live recording of Bill at the old El Mocambo in Toronto Canada in 1984 which I attended. A small venue and amazing performance. Standout to me was Another Day, Another Ray of Hope. A fan from the 70s with BeBop Deluxe. Only time I had the pleasure of seeing him live. Here is a photo of him playing the E-Bow at the concert I thought I would share.47478

- 'DAZZLEBOX' MAY BE THE FIRST ALBUM OF 2021.In William's World23 February 2021Well, I think I've made a final decision about the running order for the 'DAZZLEBOX' double instrumental album. Now I need to choose which mix of each track should go on the album as some tracks have three or four different mixes, (though not radically different, just subtle level or eq differences.) So, here's an advance peek at the track list/running order. DISC ONE: 1: ‘ANTIQUE GODS.’ 2: ‘SHOW HOME.’ 3: ‘ART DECO DANCE.’ 4: ‘SLEEPLESS CITY.’ 5: ‘IN A STREAMLINED WORLD.’ 6: ‘REVERSE ENGINEERING.’ 7: ‘WE RUN BEFORE THE WIND.’ 8: ‘MY AMIGO.’ 9: ‘COVERED IN CHROME.’ 10: ‘OUR FRIENDS IN THE STARS.’ 11: ‘THE ROAD TO ELSEWHERE.’ 12: ‘THE CLOCKWORK LIGHT MACHINE.’ 13: ‘OTHERWORLD.’ 14: ‘UNEARTHLINGS.’ DISC TWO: 1: ‘SQUEAKY TOYTOWN.’ 2: ‘RADIO RIALTO.’ 3: ‘NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS RAIN. ‘(FOR HAROLD BUDD.) 4: ‘BLUE SPIN.’ 5: ‘VENETIAN SUBMARINES’ 6: ‘TWEETIME.’ 7: ‘GREEN TIGER IN THE GOLD.’ 8: ‘SELECTATONE.’ . 9: ‘TREMOLA.’ 10: ‘EXPERIMENTAL EROTICA. (SCENE ONE.).’ 11: ‘IN THE REALMS OF THE UNREAL.’ 12: ‘BILLY’S BLUES.’ . 13: ‘FOOTSTEPS IN RAIN.’ 14: ‘SPY VS SPY.’ 15: 'UNDER FADING STARS.' There are quite a few tracks left out of the above running order which may provide the basis of another album at a later date, we'll see... 😉54

- Bill Nelson Bootleg SeriesIn William's World·12 July 2024I read through the revived "Practical Dreamers" tour (1981) thread with great interest. I'm not up to date on the circulating, unofficial, live Bill Nelson tapes (bootlegs), but my old holdings contain quite a few early ones that are great or at least fascinating/pleasing. Numerous artists have pursued monetizing unofficial recordings. Zappa did it decades ago ("beat the boots"), Joy Division has released quite a few audience recordings, Gang of Four cleared the decks a couple of years ago (on Spotify at least), and I've bought a few Pere Ubu bootlegs directly from Pere Ubu (via Bandcamp). Of the early solo Nelson material, I would call out the Leicester show from the Invisibility Exhibition (2/26/83). The sonics of the recording are great, and it is a magnificent demonstration of Bill, Ian, and tapes. I've been a super-fan of "Trial by Intimacy" since it was released, and I'd say that "Chamber of Dreams" is the least interesting of the four albums in it, because it is backing tracks without the intended live guitar and sax parts added. Everything else in the box is a finished home recording. The Leicester "Invisibility Exhibition" tape is a revelation in this context. Of all the BN live bootlegs I have, it's the tape I'd say should absolutely be made available to all Nelson fans. The later London tape, and possibly tapes I've never heard, can provide additional tracks. I wonder if Bill has tapes of every performance and if there could be a definitive/complete "bootleg series" release of The Invisibility Exhibition.54345
- Bill Nelson 1992-2000 - sorting a decade? In William's World·22 July 2024I was recently trying to guesstimate the recording sequence of BN non-album tracks circa 1979-1985, and someone asked about doing something similar with Noise Candy. I responded too casually that I found pretty much all 1992-2000 BN of a piece - a mega Noise Candy that I might designate as my desert island BN decade, if I could choose only one. However, after reviewing the recording date information on that decade, I saw that Noise Candy is credited as having been recorded 1990-2000, but “the bulk of it hailing from” Atom Shop’s moment (1996-1997). If I knew that the Atom Shop moment yielded four our five hours of home recordings, I’d forgotten. So, I gathered recording date info from the post-Demonstrations of Affection period, and I find the artistic/recording arc question pretty intriguing. You don’t reach the full-on, beat poet/retro-Americana/trip-hop/jazz-inflection/insane-analogue-sampling-looping until Atom Shop (1996-1997). Seeds/samples are apparent on Magnificent Dream People, After the Satellite Sings, etc., but it’s not there yet as emphatically as it is on Atom Shop through Noise Candy. My Secret Studio: rec. 1988-1992 Weird Critters/Magnificent Dream People: rec. 1992-1995 Practically Wired: released 1995 (studio album) After the Satellite Sings: rec. Winter 1995 (studio album) Atom Shop: rec. 1996-1997 Whistling While the World Turns: released June 2000 Caliban: made semi-public August 2001 Noise Candy: rec. 1990 to 2000, “with the bulk of it hailing from the Atom Shop sessions.” The above releases document Nelson clearing the vaults of his analogue recordings, prior to receiving his first digital setup in January 2001 and commencing “Whimsy.” What does this have to do with trying to figure out which Noise Candy tracks date from the Atom Shop moment, or before it, or after it? I have no idea. But I kind of want to puzzle it out with my ears.54206

- Mysterious Objects OverheadIn World Outside The Window·11 June 2021Following a wave of verified footage made public, a pentagon report into UAPs [unidentified aerial phenomena] is due this month. Many think it will be a request for more time to study things. But the fact that it's happening is something in itself. As is the topic featuring on 60 Minutes [link below]. - The long and winding supermarket queueIn World Outside The Window·10 April 2020OK, let's see if anyone can beat this. I went down to my local Sainsbury's this morning and the queue went out of the car park, along the main road, down the next side street and round the corner into the next road. Total queuing time: 2 hrs 25 mins! Still, I did get pretty much everything I needed and there was no queue at the checkout.212106

- Starlight Stories - thank you!In William's World2 December 2023..and my second listen might have been in a car (not the best way) but it was through unlit countryside during dark, dark evening, nice and loud! This is a wonderfully accessible, memorable album with real strength - and gravitas, if that's the right word. I love the reference to 'October Man' during 'The Doctor was an Alchemist'!61
- SO...WHAT NOW? WHAT NEXT?In William's World10 April 2021Sorting through the list of available songs for a future album, (not counting previously completed but unreleased albums,) I've decided to abandon the 'Timerscapes' title for now in favour of a different title and concept. A recently recorded 8 minute long track seems to hold the key to the shape of the album, The track is titled 'My Private Cosmos' and I think this title wil better connect with some of the individual tracks moods. So, 'My Private Cosmos' will be the album's title and I now have to continue sorting through the mass of tracks to choose which ones will fit the concept as I see it. Here is the short list of tracks, (though it is far from short.) I'm aiming at 12 or 14 titles to include on the album. As you can see, this is going to be a difficult task with so many possibilities to choose from. Creating albums is akin to creating a painting or a sculpture, it's a slow, painstaking process and the end result is not often apparent at the start. Serendipity is as much a factor as intent... So here is what I have to choose from: ‘I Was Speaking With Orson Welles.’ ‘The Dusk Before The Dark.' ‘Kingdom Of The Sky.’ 'Silver Sparks And Coloured Stars.' 'Merry And Bright' 'An Acre Of Sunshine.' 'Friday In The Future.' 'Mechanical City.' 'The Listening Station.' 'Thunder, Perfect Mind.' 'Ghosts Dance In Ghostland.' 'When The Wind Blows All Away.' 'Fantastico.' 'The Super Sensualist.' 'The Astronomy Of The Heart.' ‘Light Rain.’ ‘Days Of Wonder.’ ‘My Private Cosmos.’ ‘Under Fading Stars.’ ‘The Memory Museum.’ ‘Coasting.’ ‘Osram Diadem.’ ‘In The Land Of Nothing Doing.’ ‘I Watch The World.’ ‘There’s A Star Somewhere.’ ‘The Light In The Mirror.’ ‘Hang This Moment On A Sigh.’ ‘The Universe Is Fast Asleep.’ ‘Far Side Of Nowhere.’ ‘Mists Of Time.’ ‘Another Rainy Day. ‘When We Were Beautiful.’ ‘Lanterns Are Lighting.’ ‘In The Chapel Olf Her Sparkles.’ ‘Through My Window.’ ‘Seven Keys To This City.’ ‘Haunted.’ ‘With All The Will In The World.’ ‘’Dreaming Of Another World.’ ‘Helios In Memoryland.’ ‘This Dreamlike World.’ ‘Ghost Trains Trave On Phantom Tracks.’ ‘The Navigator.’ ‘Silver Stars Will Shine,’ ‘Driving Through England.’ ‘I Recall Jets At Dawn.’ ‘Time’s Tide.’ ‘Gazing Through Golden Windows.’ ‘Your Secret Sign.’ ‘They Tell You This, They Tell You That.’ ‘Celluloid Ghosts.’ ‘The TV’s On The Blink.’ ‘The Infernal Machine.’61
- Two new charity tracksIn William's World·5 November 2023We are proud that Bill has kindly recorded two amazing new tracks for Sara's charity which are now available on https://billnelsoncharitysingles.bandcamp.com/(https://billnelsoncharitysingles.bandcamp.com/) Along with a selection of the tracks recorded and donated over the last few years Bill has been a wonderful ambassador for Sara's Hope Foundation since 2010 He has recorded several tracks which have raised a substantial amount of funds which went towards us flying out 140 inspirational children ,young people and their families out to Sara's Retreat in Crete .This week provided the families with an opportunity to spend quality time together and forget about their horrendous and traumatic cancer journey .Having lost our beautiful 16 year old daughter Sara to colon cancer in 2001 we realised the importance for a family to strengthen bonds, have fun and make memories We returned to the UK at the end of 2019 and decided we would like to continue to fundraise and make a difference to children and young people with cancer This year we are supporting an amazing family from Teeside who really have been living a cancer nightmare Mum Sandra was in the same ward as our Sara and had an above the knee amputation at the age of 19 when she was diagnosed with bone cancer .Sandra's life has been a living nightmare and she has relapsed 5 times since 1999.She(http://1999.Sh) has had surgery to her lungs and had a double mastectomy ...she continues to visit Manchester oncology department as she is on a clinical trial in an attemp to prolong her life Sandra and her husband Colin are a remarkable couple and have 6 children .Tragically three of their children share the same rogue and very rare cancer gene as Sandra .Coby now 18 had surgery to remove a tumour from his temple and relapsed and required further treatment to remove 2 brain tumours ....Coby has been left with psychological and life changing health problems including his mobility and speech His young sister was also diagnosed with breast cancer and endured surgery and treatments to remove the cancer ...thankfully she has made a full recovery but still requires regular scans and check ups The eldest daughter Kacey recently passed away at the age of 16 when she was diagnosed with leukaemia during her treatment for a solid tumour The family really deserve support .Julie ,myself and family friends donated to an Appeal to fund Kaceys funeral as they could not take out insurance for Sandra or the three children as they were high risk So please support by making a donation when you download Bills charity by singles Bill ,the Nelsonica team and my fellow Nelsonic family have really made a difference to so many families living with cancer ...sadly like Sara some of the children have since passed away since their week at Sara's Retreat ...but the parents and siblings have precious memories together I have set up a charity account for the family and it you would like to make a separate donation I would be happy to send you the account details Please e mail gedhoburn1961@gmail.com(mailto:gedhoburn1961@gmail.com) Once again thank you Bill and the Nelsonic community for your kindness , love an care Ged and Julie Hoburn XX ..61319

- WILLIAM'S WONDERFUL WORLD OF GUITARS. (A personal series of six string sentiments...)In William's World12 June 2020JUST TO ADD A PERSONAL NOTE TO THE WADRE GUITAR POST ABOVE. WANDRE DID HAVE ONE LESS UNORTHODOX GUITAR, A MODEL CALLED 'THE SOLOIST.' I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO FIND ONE OF THESE AT 'MUSIC GROUND' IN DONCASTER, QUITE A FEW YEARS AGO NOW. I BOUGHT IT AND IT GOT USED ON A FEW RECORDINGS,. THE ONE I REMEMBER MOST WAS 'FIRST BOY ON THE MOON'. I REALLY LIKED THE SOUND OF THE GUITAR AND IT WAS VERY EASY TO PLAY. UNFORTUNATELY, I TRADED IT IN AGAINST ANOTHER GUITAR, (I THINK IT WAS MY GRETSCH 'ANNIVERSARY' MODEL,) THOUGH I HAD NO IDEA THEN THAT THE PRICE OF VINTAGE WANDRE'S HAD SKYROCKETED. GUITARIST BUDDY MILLER, (A WONDERFUL PLAYER,) HAS BOUGHT UP TWO OR THREE RARE WANDRE SOLISTS AND RAVES ABOUT THEM WELL, THAT'S BECOME ANOTHER GUITAR THAT I WISH I'D HUNG ON TO, NOT JUST BECAUSE OF ITS VALUE AND RARITY, BUT BECAUSE IT WAS A DAMN GOOD GUITAR. HERE'S A PICTURE OF ME WITH IT AND SOME PICS OF IT ON ITS OWN.39
