- END OF AN ERA...In William's World9 September 2022That really is very nicely put Bill. I was born in 1952 and have lived all of my life, up until today, with Queen Elizabeth being the Monarch. I also don't consider myself a Royalist but I did feel a twinge of genuine sadness upon hearing of her death yesterday. I hope that Charles is up to the task ahead as King.82
- My Private Cosmos - Pre-order NOW!!!In William's World18 November 2021Had an interesting email request today: Prog Rock Magazine want a copy of 'My Private Cosmos' to review in their magazine. It will take some time for the journalist to absorb all 94 tracks though...so the review might not appear for quite a while...But nice that someone is aware of what's in the pipeline!82

- 'MY PRIVATE COSMOS' :THE STORY SO FAR...In William's World25 July 2021LATEST UPDATE: SUNDAY 25th JUNE, 9:45 PM. I've now chosen the extra tracks that I'm contemplating adding to the digital download only version of 'My Private Cosmos.' They constitute another 15 tracks, (or another CD in physical terms.) This would bring the total track count to 72 songs. I'm in a quandary about how to deal with this...On one hand the tracks add an extra element and dimension to the album. They're all worthy of being part of the physical box set. On the other hand, making them a fifth physical CD adds even more manufacturing costs to the album. So...what to do? Something to ponder... Meanwhile, here's the running order for those extra tracks: Possible 5th CD or digital download extra: 1:‘A DIP IN THE SPARKLE JAR.’ 2:‘THIS CLOCKWORK WORLD.’ 3:‘WHEN WE WERE BEAUTIFUL.’ 4:‘ HI-TONE SATURDAY.’ 5:‘MECHANICAL CITY ONE.’ 6:‘DREAMLIKE WORLD.’ . 7:‘COASTING.’ 8:‘SOME DAYS IT’S ORANGE, SOMEDAYS IT’S BLUE.’ . 9:‘IN THE LAND OF NOTHING DOING.’ 10:‘MAGIC AND MYSTERY.’ 11: ‘THE SUPER SENSUALIST.’ 12:‘WHITE FALCON TWO.’ 13:‘FAR SIDE OF NOWHERE.’. 14:‘THE TV’S ON THE BLINK.’ 15:‘AND ALL THE WORLD WAS OURS.’82

- Sounding The Ritual EchoIn William's World·10 July 2024I recently disposed of my vinyl collection (downsizing can be stressful!), and am now working my way through Bill's back catalogue. I snapped up STRE as soon as it became available as a download, and now realise just how radical it was in 1981. Its lo-fi ambience is quite captivating - not exactly amateurish, but the sound of an artist determined to create something despite the technological restrictions. Great stuff.82208

- Be Bop Deluxe in The South of FranceIn William's World·28 February 2021My super deluxe version of Drastic Plastic has landed. I have managed to get the audio tracks from the DVDs; (discs 5 and 6), in a suitable format for adding to the CDs to form a 6 disc set for playing. All is okay except that I do not recognise a few of the tracks playing on the section, Be Bop Deluxe in The South of France - Bill Nelson's Home Movies Filmed Whilst Recording Drastic Plastic. I would ideally like to add titles to this section. Can anyone help? I have so far in order of play: Her Presence in Flowers / Kid With Cowboy Tie / Tropicus / ? / To the Sea in Ships / On the Beach / V-Ghost / Over Ocean / Holiday Express / ? / ? / ?. Can anyone agree this and fill the gaps denoted by question marks? To be honest, Because I didn't recognise some of the tunes, I have used Shazam and I am just replicating what it has told me; (shameful)!218420

- Be Bop Deluxe feature in the book "Music In A Word"In William's World·7 January 2022Our American (and Canadian) friends in particular might remember "Trouser Press" magazine, which was published from 1974 to 1984. It was a terrific monthly publication helmed by its editor / publisher Ira Robbins. In May of last year (2021), Ira released a digital-only book entitled "Music in a Word (Volume 1)." The book's description is as follows: "Subjects include Trouser Press, John Lydon, Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, Ice Cube, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, the Cure, Blondie, Be-Bop Deluxe, Liz Phair, Michael Jackson, T. Rex, the B-52's, Elvis Presley, Jethro Tull, J. Geils, Public Enemy, David Bowie, R.E.M., Linda Ronstadt, Pavement, Kirsty MacColl, Holly Beth Vincent, Billy Joel, Tears for Fears, Julian Cope and Ian McCulloch, as well as movie reviews and much more." The section on Be Bop Deluxe is 30+ pages! The digital book can be ordered through Amazon... and although a hard-copy edition will be released this year (2022), please note that it will not include the chapter on Be Bop Deluxe. There is also a "Music in a Word (Volume 2)" that has just been released, and it is available once again through Amazon and comes in both digital and hard-copy formats. It is described as follows: "The second volume of veteran rock critic Ira Robbins' anthology-and-memoir Music in a Word trilogy compiles his extensive writing about nine artists: The Who, Cheap Trick, the Ramones, Nirvana, the Clash, the Kinks, Elvis Costello, Keith Richards and the Replacements."412469

- SPENCER DAVIS.In William's World·23 October 2020Only just found out about the passing of Spencer Davis who died two days ago. I'm very sad to hear this as I was a big fan of The Spencer Davis Group in the 1960s and used to do cover versions of the group's 'Keep On Running'' and 'When I Come Home' singles when I played in local Wakefield bands at that time. In fact, the first time I ever sang with a band was when we covered those songs. The rest of the band I was in were not so keen on the emerging British R n' B scene, being somewhat more conservative, but they agreed to do the numbers provided I sang them. I think they thought that I wouldn't take up the offer and that would be the end of it, but I decided to have a go. And so, at a working men's club gig somewhere in West Yorkshire in the mid 1960s,, I sang in front of an audience for the very first time, (well, the second time if you count that I'd sung 'The Christmas Alphabet' as an infant in my school's Christmas play!) The Spencer Davis Group were excellent and very influential, and those records still sound great. Rest in peace, Spencer... The Spencer Davis Group. Left to right: Steve Winwood, Spencer Davis, Pete York and Muff Winwood.81274

- “The Alchemical Adventures Of Sailor Bill”In William's World7 November 2020Hard to believe that this album was released as long ago as 2005. It still ranks with me as one of the very best albums of my solo career, an extremely personal and autobiographical work that sits as close to my heart now as it did when it was first recorded. If there was ever to be just one single album that encapsulated the essential core of my being, it would be 'The Alchemical Adventures Of Sailor Bill.'81
- REMEMBERING MY FRIEND HAROLD BUDD.In William's World·8 December 2021Today marks the anniversary of Harold Budd's passing. It was on this day in 2020 when my dear friend succumbed to Covid in a Los Angeles hospital. Hard to take in that this was a whole year ago, losing him still feels so raw and cruel. Harold was a very special being and a wonderful, generous friend. I miss him so much...81169

- A STILL UNRELEASED ALBUM...In William's World·31 October 2019So many albums awaiting release in my archives, some dating back four years or so now. This particular album, 'Phantom Fuzzbox,' is one of the more 'avant-garde' of the bunch with abstract, slightly atonal guitar improvisations. Not sure when to let this loose, but it will be sometime next year...81314

- Working Man -Drastic Plastic TourIn William's World·22 June 2021Here's a shot in the dark. When I saw BBD in Toronto during their "Drastic Plastic" tour, Bill played an instrumental that he called "Working Man". It was a mind blower and I've been wondering if it ever got recorded and even more importantly, will it ever see the light of day.120559
