- Love the Whitls box setIn William's World·1 May 2025Given the wonderful box sets for Be Bop and beyond to Red Noise and Bill’s solo work what are the chances of a Love that Whirls/Chimera box set? I’m sure there would be plenty of material!75253
- Almost 30 Years of Bill NelsonIn William's World30 April 2025When I attended one of the Nelsonicas when it was at The Duke, I dragged a chair over when Bill was doing his meet and greet and the look on his face was a picture, because as was the norm up until then, you unormally had to stand and meet Bill. I had a lovely chat meeting a true hero of mine and I told him exactly that, I always heard something new in his music. He was delighted, and I then asked him to sign a twenty quid note, which he did laughingly, and promptly did a little art work when he decorated the Queen, which I've still got to this day. What a guy73

- Almost 30 Years of Bill NelsonIn William's World29 April 2025I seem to remember a story about Luminous...... Anyway, once upon a time, I got a decent job where my college education could actually put money into my pocket. So, I bought a cd player and sought out to gather music worth listening to. Having been familiar with Be Bop Deluxe, when I saw Bill Nelson on Cocteau, I gave him a try. I have not been sorry. Now I am retired, and I am glad that he is not.52
- The return of Trump - what next?In World Outside The Window6 May 2025Alec, Trump sure has been a busy boy once again, and this is yet more weirdness - (has he missed a trick in not turning the prison into an exclusive luxury apartment complex?). Then there is his alleged 'suggestion' that the whole of Ukraine be handed to Putin and in the same week as VE Day remembrance, the 100% tariffs to be imposed on any non-US made movies and, finally, Trumps' maladministration has berated the German government for trying to curb the toxic influence of AfD, stating that this would be 'undemocratic' -irony, anyone?11

- Love the Whitls box setIn William's World4 May 2025I would have to think if this was when Bill played with Monsoon featuring Sheila Chandra. He contributed e-bow guitar and electric guitar. Both were on Mercury at the time. On TLTW liner notes it says: "The material on this album constitutes approximately half of the total recordings made at various intervals between April and November 1981. The remainder will hopefully appear in various forms throughout the coming months." Has anything been released from that treasure trove? That we know about?21

- CHIMERA (1983)In William's World3 May 2025Thanks Alec - I too had Chimera and previous albums at the time of Vistamix's release (I've bought all Bill's output since the release of BBD's "Modern Music", which I first heard "on my radio" by the way).. But I did not know the origin of the Vistamix title. Thanks for that tid-bit of trivia. :)21
- Almost 30 Years of Bill NelsonIn William's World1 May 2025Believe I’ve mentioned this somewhere before: my introduction to Bill was with the “Drastic Plastic” release by Be Bop Deluxe. I’d bought it at the recommendation of the owner of my favourite record shop in Gainesville, Florida, Chapter Three Records. Listening to it for the first time, I was blown away. The next week I was back to Chapter Three Records, telling the owner how great the album was and thanking him for the recommendation. He said, “Well, enjoy it because Be Bop Deluxe just broke up.” .31
- Almost 30 Years of Bill NelsonIn William's World28 April 2025I first discovered Bill’s music in about 1989 or so, after reading his entry in my copy of the Trouser Press guide, thinking “I like the sound of that” then buying “Duplex” in the Virgin Megastore in Edinburgh. Then I got a big boost in 1990 when I had to present a paper at a conference in SF and a friend took me round the local record stores, and I came home with quite a haul of the Enigma CDs. As for “Practically Wired”. I picked that up in my local Best Buy in N. Virginia the week it was released. At that point it was unusual for me to buy from physical stores (and very unusual for it to be on the shelf in Best Buy) because my review website I ran at the time was doing quite well in terms of earning me credit at CDNow whenever people read my reviews and clicked through to buy stuff. It wasn’t exactly big bucks - my best ever month earned me $128 - but most months I ended up getting enough to buy anything new that I was interested in.43
- PhotosIn World Outside The Window5 May 2025I submitted this for a couple of reasons. To share a corner of my part of the world. As well as to give a tutorial on photo composition as well as technical guidance. I grew up in an instamatic world. Point, shoot, worry about it later after the FILM gets developed. Taking photos was fun. Especially on family outings. A chance to relive the adventure. Photographs capture time. Now it is art. I swear I threw away wonderful shots as I could view the digital image immediately, delete and retry - only to never capture the subject matter as I wanted it. I am glad that folks submit and share.1

- CHIMERA (1983)In William's World3 May 2025Vistamix: Even though it was a compilation of Chimera plus a couple of the catchiest tracks from each of the previous two albums, it made for an extremely strong LP collection. Vistamix was a valiant effort by the record company to expand Bill’s U.S. fan base. Unfortunately, I don’t think it made much of an impact, but I’m glad to hear that it at least reached Quinnault.21

- Almost 30 Years of Bill NelsonIn William's World29 April 2025I first came across Bill in 1975 with " SITN" and haven't looked back since. I've lost count of how cds etc I've got. But I try and always go for the physical copy and there's not a day or week without a bit of Bill.blasting out of something here at home or the car4
- Almost 30 Years of Bill NelsonIn William's World27 April 2025So, Dogboy, how was it that of all the Bill Nelson releases was it Practically Wired that you knowingly heard first? My first encounter with that one was seeing it on display at Rockaway Records in Los Angeles, which was a couple of blocks from where I used to live. I was surprised to see it, excited about a new product available.41

- PhotosIn World Outside The Window29 April 2025Cape Disappointment Cape DisappointmentPhotographer: Blaine F. Amidon Photo taken: Dec. 14, 2024, at Cape Disappointment State Park, near Ilwaco, Wash. Photographer’s description: “A prediction of king tides and 20-foot waves on the coast enticed me and a friend to make the four-hour drive to Cape Disappointment. In addition to the high tide and big waves, we were also rewarded with sunbeams through the clouds. Taken with a Nikon Z6II, ISO 800, f/16, 1/2000-second exposure.” Critique: “This is a stunning moment. The first thing I notice is how well you played the rule of thirds. The king-tide waves hitting the rocks and the sunbeam through the clouds navigate my eyes throughout your image. The blue sky and water frame this moment very well. Thank you for sharing this landscape with us. I can hear the roar of the waves just looking at this scene!”13
