It isn't actually a soundtrack for anything as far as I know but was composed over a period of time at Bill's then rather basic home studio for his own personal interest . The album sounds very different from the two soundtrack albums and is my favourite Bill Nelson album, not soundtracky and very atmospheric. Of course I could be wrong if so I'm sure someone will correct me.

I see, I didn't realise that. I've had many problems over the years with pesky usb connections so I assumed that's what it probably was. I assumed you'd probably tried all the things I suggested anyway but thought I'd mention them just in case.

Hello, when having usb connection problems with your computer you can try to avoid using any external hub and connect the camcorder direct to the computer, if you're already doing that try another computer usb hub until you find one that hopefully works, if you've already done all that you can safely ignore my post, It does seem a shame to lose the video this year and I have generally found that persistence often pays with usb issues, good luck.

I just looked at the track listing, it wasn't Portrait of Jan which is on You tube, I think it could have been Narcosis

My record player and my records disappeared decades ago, so I haven't heard the album except for one or two tracks on you tube for a long time, The same goes for the Twofold aspect of everything. I remember there was a really good ambient instrumental track on Savage Gestures but I can't remember the title.

Does anyone know if this will be re released on cd or as a download in the future?

Reading on, in Electronic Music Maker 1982 Bill mentions "I've got the little VL-Tone, tapping out the two buttons for real fast, rippling little runs of sequencer-like things." he goes on to say " The one problem I've found with the VL is that when you get to the end of the 'sequence' it glitches as it goes through — the thing to do to get round that is to press the red 'reset' button just before you get to the repeat point, that way it returns to the beginning without a glitch." This was a reference to recording 'The Cabinet of Caligari' at the Echo Observatory but I presume it could have been used on the 'Love that Whirls' unless there was access to another form of sequencing' at that time.

Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been sifting through the links Jon gave me to the articles in the Archive, which took a bit of time but there was some small pieces of information there. Thanks to Bill for replying in person and you're right it was a very long time ago. Anyway, for anyone else who's interested, I came across Bill's gear list in the June 1982 edition of 'Acquitted by mirrors' in which his keyboard set up was a Minimoog, Arp Omni, a couple of Casios and a Wurlitzer Piano, so it was before the Yamaha CS 70M, which makes for a really minimal set up Synthesizer wise, making the album all the more remarkable because it doesn't sound it. There was no sequencer listed so I'm wondering how the sequence type sounds were done? I'm not a guitarist so I'm not sure what type of effect the ebow guitar and noise gate triggered by hi hats would create but listening to the parts of 'flaming Desire' that Alec mentioned probably gives me some idea. The 808 sound was sort of tinny on other records of the time if I remember rightly but the drum machine sounds are really beefy and solid on the album with some really inspired drum programming. I presume it was heavily processed to good effect. Sorry for being a Geek but some aspects of the sound of 'the Love that Whirls' has intrigued me, for what, 38 years now, given the Synth technology of the time. I know it's probably subjective but the album has stood the test of time very well especially compared to much of the rest of the music I was listening to at the time.
