Tender Is The Night (1983)

When discussing Bill’s early 80s output, I always see people mention tracks like “Flaming Desire” or “Do You Dream In Colour” as highlights of this period (and rightly so). However, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone mention “Tender Is The Night” from the Chimera mini-album (or Vistamix here in the US), and in my opinion it’s one of Bill’s best-ever songs. The funky bass line, the way the synths and guitars lock together, and Bill’s expressive vocals all come together to make something extra special. Any other fans of this track?

It’s such a Bill Nelson bass part though. I’ve thought like that but there’s really not much that’s Mick Karn to it. There’s no sliding around to speak of. There’s no surprisingly off-kilter note played.
