Bills guitar instrumentals: first take on the guitar part?
Just a question on the wonderful improvised guitar parts for many of Bills instrumentals: are they mostly first takes on the guitar? I'm guessing that Bill spends lots of time crafting the many background instruments, percussion, bass, keys etc. But when it comes to the main guitar melody, if it's a mostly guitar melody, is that usually a first take? Or is it recording a few takes and then gradually refining the final guitar part?
I remember watching an interview with David Gilmour where he says that his best stuff is usually captured on the first 2 or 3 takes. After that he feels that he loses spontaneity and it becomes laboured.
