A very cool reminiscence. I was at the same outdoor gig on June 9th 1990 but wasn't feeling remotely brave enough to go and say 'Hi' to Bill.
On my very rough 'through air' recording of (about half of) Bill's set, I have the venue down as Thornes Park - perhaps there's a local reason for there being two names for the park?
Meanwhile, I do love the stage of Bill's work represented by the Demonstrations of Affection boxed set, but I only listen sparingly because, to me, the emotional baggage of its creation feels like an obstacle. Weird, that, I suppose: I can cope with John Lee Hooker singing blues, blues and more blues, but even funky eighties electropop/rock can be a bit much if I'm actually hoping its creator isn't caught up in such a state for too long.
But it's time to get Chimes & Rings out again, I think!
