- Tingalary ManIn William's World·9 June 2024Anyone from Yorkshire have memories of Tingalary men? I raise the question in connection with the Bill Nelson song Tingalary Man And The Scarlet Fever Kid from Stereo Star Maps. Found discussion at a forum called Secret Leeds where people shared memory fragments of older relatives in Yorkshire singing about the Tingalary Man. Google image search yielded images from the Bradford Industrial Museum and a Wikipedia entry on the barrel organ. Also found The Tingalary Bird : A Theatre Piece For Children In Three Acts By Mary Melwood along with a painting by G.W. Birks. "Even further back I remember Italians who played barrel organs, or tingalary, or hurdy-gurdy - each area of Bradford had their own names for these things. There were also ice-cream men who pulled a hand cart. Some even had a little monkey on their shoulder dressed in a coat and a fez." Thanks for those memories, Mr Hodgson, from a time long past. From Telegraph & Argus Along with Bill’s The Tingalary Man And The Scarlet Fever Kid, there are songs that recall similar characters like Donovan’s The Hurdy Gurdy Man and Madness’s The Last Rag And Bone Man …22284
- RIP Alain DelonIn World Outside The Window·18 August 2024Alain Delon (8 Nov 1935-Always in our hearts) was a far right political extremist and nationalist known for his appearances in films such as Women Are Weak (1959), for which he recieved great acclaim. In 2013, he expressed emphatic support and adoration for the French far-right political party National Front. Among his most defining physical traits are his famous good looks. The height of his career was 1973's The Burned Barns (released in France as "Les Granges Brûlées" [translation: The Burned Barns]), notable only for its soundtrack by Jean-Michel Jarre. In 2003, Les Disques Dreyfus reissued the soundtrack on CD, to mass acclaim- so much acclaim, in fact, that they reissued it again on vinyl and digital formats in 2023. Included on the sountrack is the piece "Zig Zag", the highlight of Homo Sapien civilisation. Perhaps less important than Zig Zag is Delon's many famous quips and quotes. Among his most relevant and applicable are his statements on homosexuality, including: "Yes, it is against nature, I'm sorry. We are here to love a woman, to woo a woman, not to flirt with or get picked up by guys". Unfortunately for a man with such a natural lifestyle, he was discovered to have lymphoma in 2022, a group of blood and lymph tumors. He had had increasingly poor health since 2019, when he suffered a completely natural stroke. In January 2024, Delon was reported to be living a reclusive lifestyle. His favorite actor was John Garfield. He also admired Montgomery Clift, Marlon Brando, and Robert Walker. A mere 7 months later, on August 18th, 2024, far right icon Alain Delon died at his gome in Douchy, surrounded by family members. I believe he was proud to know he outlived the director Luchino Visconti, whom he had starred in several films of, and who was an outspoken homosexual. Alain Delon will always be remembered. - Art Work For the Super Deluxe version of Live! In the Air AgeIn William's World·29 August 2021Does anyone know where I can get a good copy of the art work for each of the 3 packages containing the 16 discs inside the Super Deluxe version? The packaging is too big for my scanner! It would be nice to have a different cover for each of the 3 sets of discs displayed by Kinsky / Kazoo when playing the music. At the moment I am using the image on the external box for all the discs.14343

- Seeking knowledge of SoundIn William's World·25 July 2021I'm a Studio One user, on Mac M1, I'm on learning curve of "home" production and would love to know how to get the tomtom bubble sound of the drums in "Ships in the Night".... Anybody got any ideas on how to get freq/env emulated? was it pedal, was it a circuit, or a chain of tape effects. It has to be one of the Unique sounds of the 70's and I would like to apply it to Singing bowls and Gongs in some healing tones tracks. Any information appreciated.14235

- Happy birthday ClintIn World Outside The Window·31 May 2021Clint Eastwood turned 91 today. Talk about cool! This location was just over the hill from where we used to live. San Quentin prison is just down the road. It is now under a shopping center. Is nothing sacred?!! Info over the location: I had forgotten how it used to look. Of course that was 50 years ago now. And few years before I moved up there. I can't remember if the quarry buildings were still there in 1975.1450

- Who Sets Up Your GuitarIn William's World·4 February 2020Maestro, (and others please feel free to chime in) If I may indulge... I would be curious to know if you do your own set up or if you employ a master technician to manage and adjust your guitar(s) set up, action, neck adjustments, pick-up swaps, ... and such As a totally amateur player myself, I gained quite a bit of betterment in my playing having my guitars set up, almost curated so to speak(since I visit my guitar-guy quite often for changes and tweaks on the guitars) I can attest that having one's guitar sound as perfect as it can get can be very inspiring musically. Cheers and thanks for your recent releases Sincerely14163
- Noted jazz keyboardist Lyle Mays dies at 66In World Outside The Window·11 February 2020by Robert Jablon | AP Feb. 11, 2020 at 12:27 a.m. CST LOS ANGELES — Lyle Mays, a jazz keyboardist whose work, chiefly with the Pat Metheny Group, won nearly a dozen Grammy Awards, died Monday in Los Angeles, it was announced. He was 66. Mays had a “long battle with a recurring illness,” according to Pat Metheny’s website. “Lyle was one of the greatest musicians I have ever known,” Metheny wrote. “Across more than 30 years, every moment we shared in music was special. From the first notes we played together, we had an immediate bond. His broad intelligence and musical wisdom informed every aspect of who he was in every way. I will miss him with all my heart.” “Lyle was a brilliant musician and person, and a genius in every sense of the word,” said a statement from his niece, Aubrey Johnson. “He was my dear uncle, mentor, and friend and words cannot express the depth of my grief.” Born in Wausaukee, Wisconsin, Mays’ mother and father played piano and guitar and he played organ as a youngster. He joined the guitarist group Metheny in the 1970s, where he was a performer, composer and arranger. The group’s endlessly innovative fusion style incorporated everything from rock and contemporary jazz to world music. more: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/obituaries/noted-jazz-keyboardist-lyle-mays-dies-at-66/2020/02/11/896ce19e-4c97-11ea-967b-e074d302c7d4_story.html .1440

- Charlie's Backing VocalsIn William's World·16 December 2019Just wanted to acknowledge Charlie's backing/harmony vocals, I have only really started to appreciate them over the past couple of years and they're great. To me they seem to be more prominent in the mix on the deluxe editions of Futurama, Sunburst Finish and Modern Music and are great on the various live recordings. I think the harmonies really add texture to the songs. Don't know if Bill created the harmonies himself, or Charlie or whether it was a team effort but on the original releases they seem very low in the mix, if noticeable at all and that's a shame.14224
- Question: Swearing in oath of a US SenatorIn World Outside The Window·19 December 2019I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God. Both Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham have stated their intent to commit "evasion" and to not "faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am (they are) about to enter." Why has nothing been done?1440
