- It Ships! In William's World20 May 2025Mine landed Friday (UK) and as it was a belated Xmas and then belated birthday present I didn't actually know it was coming ahead of that date as I wasn't the one that ordered it - so a lovely Friday afternoon surprise. I am playing Disc 2 now as that is the one with the unreleased radio session (Piccadilly Radio) on it and the thing I'm keenest to hear. It is great to have this album in a new mix and in this deluxe packaging alongside the Be Bop and Red Noise releases from the past - what - 7 years? I hope we get a Love That Whirls one, and who knows maybe also Chimera - Savage Gestures at some point?12
- Love the Whirls box setIn William's World20 May 2025I think that - for added value and to gain the proper sense of 'Bill at work' - the box set could do with both a live gig recording (perhaps from Canadian or US shows) and the BBC radio sessions (two sessions for David 'Kid' Jensen from 1982 and 1983). Without these, there would be a definite feeling of missing dimensions of how Mr N worked (superbly!) at the time.1

- Love the Whirls box setIn William's World19 May 2025So, now that the Quit Dreaming box set has finally arrived, I think we can all now speculate on what The Love That Whirls box set will contain! Based on past reissues, I imagine a remastered album with bonus tracks, a second disc of additional tracks from the era, a remix, and a blu-ray with 5.1. Here's my hoped for tracklisting: would be interested in what others have to say. Disc 1: Remastered Album Empire of the Senses Hope for the Heartbeat Waiting For Voices A Private View Eros Arriving The Bride of Christ in Autumn Flesh He and Sleep Were Brothers When Your Dream of Perfect Beauty Comes True Flaming Desire Portrait of Jan with Flowers The Crystal Elevator in the Palace of God Department Store Echo in Her Eyes (The Lamps of Oblivion) The October Man Haunting In My Head The Passion The Burning Question Eros Arriving (Single Version) Hope for the Heartbeat (Remix) Total Time: 75 mins N.B. Since "White Sound" appears as track 7 on all other CD editions of Quit Dreaming, a practice carried over to the new box set, I'm leaving "Flesh" and "He and Sleep Were Brothers" as tracks 7 and 8 here, since that's where they have also appeared on previous CD editions. Disc 2: Session Tracks and Chimera Flaming Desire (Extended Remix) The Man in the Rexine Suit Watching My Dream Boat Go Down in Flames The Meat Room Narcosis Another Happy Thought (Carved Forever In Your Cortex) Portrait of Jan with Moon and Stars The Real Adventure Acceleration Everyday Feels LIke A New Drug Tender Is the Night Glow World Another Day Another Ray of Hope Acceleration (Long Version) Acceleration (Dub) Acceleration (Short Version) Total Time: 73 mins This tracklisting might leave room for a radio session or two Disc 2: Remix Repeat of Disc 1 track listing, remixed. The Kalamazoo Kid has determined that Savage Gestures was part of the Love That Whirls session, so those tracks definitely belong here. Chimera is a tougher call, and so I can imagine it not bring part of this set, leaving the rest of that disc free for demos and radio/live sessions. The two single remixes might also find their way onto the second disc in that case.11

- Pure conjecture. In William's World·14 May 2025It’s a very attractive package and a fan person’s dream from and of music 1978/79. It wasn’t like this in my/the day and how slow time passed way back then anyway enough of the nostalgia. I have only spotted one typo 🤷♂️🤣. I conjecture the delay was the BR disc because as I delved the BR disc 4 fell out. It was/is in it’s own paper sleeve and not housed with other discs. That’s enough Sherlock needless to say the DYDIC promo remains suitably weird & wonderful. (Even a reference to Ted Nugent can be found!) 🤣23252

- Happy Times are here again. In William's World·13 May 2025It’s on it’s way to me as well so it may arrive in time or on my birthday. I have had a few of these coincidences recently on special dates…perhaps I need to get out more…🤣31203

- It Ships! In William's World11 May 2025Re tariffs, there are no new ones related to UK > USA shipments under $800, so I don't anticipate delays. Re the price tag, yes it's high, but I'm content. I expect the new remix of the multitrack material (disc 3) to bring a lot of space and definition to an album I've always found to be murky and compressed-sounding. The fact that "The World and His Wife" and "Dancing Music" are included among these remixes is exciting. I'm also thrilled that all additional tracks (for which there are apparently no original multi-tracks, disc 2) have finally been brought together with a single approach to remastering, so that we've finally got a sonically-matched set of all the extra material between Red Noise and "The Love That Whirls." The radio sessions did appear on the giant "Practice of Daily Life" box (physical release), but I didn't get that, so I'm delighted to have them here, where they belong. That version of "Rooms with Brittle Views" is killer. I don't need the remaster of the original mix (disc 1), which I assume will sound much like the previous, early-aughts one, and I have no way to play the surround-sound DVD (disc 4). I'm bummed that the multi-tracks of two songs from the album's mobile unit recording sessions with Leckie were apparently lost ("Atom Man" and "Mr. Magnetism") - so they won't quite match the rest of the sessions' material. Nonetheless, this is much loved material for me, and I'm more than ready to flush my personal patchwork version of it, in favor of this tidy box with its big, informative booklet.24

- Monthly newsletter for May is finally published...In William's World·2 May 2025Apologies for those of you who will have been expecting the monthly newsletter this morning - the technical gremlins were hard at work meaning that the release was delayed... All fixed now, so if you haven't seen it already - catch up with the latest here.65595
- It Ships! In William's World11 May 2025I know I've been complaining but that is certainly a more encouraging way to look at the set, KK. Thanks for pointing out what we can actually look forward to here! As I've said, it really is a stage of Bill's work that I am amazingly fond of.2

- Working On Another Thingy. In World Outside The Window12 May 2025If I send you money to send one to Wadders, will you spend it on anything other than on your guitar rig? How about a wig to match your wife (in color, not in beauty). Us American Nelsonians got to stick together. 🏴☠️1
- Almost 30 Years of Bill NelsonIn William's World30 April 2025When I attended one of the Nelsonicas when it was at The Duke, I dragged a chair over when Bill was doing his meet and greet and the look on his face was a picture, because as was the norm up until then, you unormally had to stand and meet Bill. I had a lovely chat meeting a true hero of mine and I told him exactly that, I always heard something new in his music. He was delighted, and I then asked him to sign a twenty quid note, which he did laughingly, and promptly did a little art work when he decorated the Queen, which I've still got to this day. What a guy73

- It Ships! In William's World9 May 2025Based on the idea that the QDAGOTB set at last actually exists and might even be being mailed out, I have just ordered and paid for one. But now I have done, I'm suddenly very aware that the set isn't actually good value for money. Three CDs (and a blu-ray that just repeats one of the CDs) in a big box for £60 !! There seems to be just three songs on there that I don't already have elsewhere on CD. Sorry to be negative, but aren't we being asked a lot for some smart repackaging here?12

- It Ships! In William's World9 May 2025More than three tracks, surely - the radio sessions haven’t previously appeared, have they? Buying direct from Cherry Red is never cheap, particularly if you’re not in the UK. In the US it cost £58 for the set and £15 for shipping, for a $97 purchase. However, a friend who ordered elsewhere paid $63 including shipping. He’ll get it a week or two after me, but save a bunch. Haven’t all the BBD/Red Noise boxes been about the same ( Live In The Air Age excepted)? The only others I bought directly were Sound On Sound and Drastic Plastic - I picked up Futurama and Sunburst Finish long after release through cheap eBay vendors, and I got Axe Victim and Modern Music in weird mutant digital download versions from Qobuz - $18 each for the contents of the CDs, no DVD content. If they do another batch of Modern Music boxes, I’ll definitely go for that, but only if Trumpolini/Il Douche/The Tangerine Baboon at least restores some reasonable de minimis to avoid tariffs on small purchases.1

- Tender Is The Night (1983)In William's World8 May 2025It's one of the greatest 80s tracks I've discovered recently. Wish I'd found it earlier though. Although Bill does a great job of playing bass on it, I wish he'd persuaded Mick Karn to play on it instead, like he did on Glow World. As I commented below, I think Bill is trying really hard to sound like Mick, but it's impossible of course. Mick would be more slippery, whereas Bill's playing is very exact, which is good in a way.21
- Quit Dreaming - your Xmas present sortedIn William's World7 May 2025“Do You Dream In Colour?” Promo video, and the 15 tracks from the “New Stereo Mix” in both stereo (hopefully 24-bit, 96kHz) and 5.1 Surround formats. Surround is described as “hi-res” so it’s presumably DTS-HD or DTS 96/24. Quite why Blu-Ray is required I don’t know, it might just be that Cherry Red are trying to push people from DVD to Blu-Ray generally. I have to say my excitement over this release has been drained by the delays and that it now appears I’ll have to pay a tariff on the set.2
