- Atmosphere, Nostalgia and GhostsIn World Outside The Window9 December 2023Whitley Bay (north east coast), 1978...Photographed by Markéta Luskačová. I love how the mist/fog on the horizon, turns the people in the distance into ghostlike apparitions, almost separate and disconnected from the main part of the image. Quite a haunting photograph..I think it's great.32
- Atmosphere, Nostalgia and GhostsIn World Outside The Window11 December 2023...Here's another shot from Whitley Bay, 1978, by Markéta Luskačová. Another really good photograph...The movement is fab, almost like a choreographed dance routine and the drastically tilting horizon line just adds to the sense of drama.32

- Your Favourite Promo Music Vid'sIn World Outside The Window19 March 2024It's incredibly unfashionable to admit this, but I really liked some of Adam & the Ant's videos. I was on the cusp of becoming a teenager, and I loved the Technicolor high camp insanity in the midst of so much po-faced gloom, or aspirational cod-chic, of the times. I loved the fact that no other artist would have had Diana Dors or Dandy Nichols or Benny Hill associated with their 'brand'. Mr Ant wasn't being ironic, of course, which is what made it. But aside from that, I like this video a lot. When it was made, back in the 80s, it apparently cost an absolute fortunate. It didn't have the desired commercial impact, but probably prompted some nightmares.32
- Rip Johnny HardwickIn World Outside The Window·10 August 2023It was a sad morning. On 10 August, 2023, we lost beloved "'King of the Hill'" voice actor, Johnny Hardwick, âge 64. There is an unknown cause of death. No foul play may be suspected. The voice actor was belovedly known for playing Hank Hill’s conspiracy theory-obssessed besst friend Dale Gribbons. He had also a big foray into many different careers across the show’s timeline, including, you guessed it, a Propane Salesman (if only he was also a Polymoog synthesist!) First enjoying à foray into 90s stand-up comedy, he lent his voice to the character for more than 240 episodes (Wow!) As of 2023, Dale has not made any crossover appearances into Family Guy. However, hé was parodied by them in this video shown below. YouTubeFamily Guy - King of the Hill opening ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtAL6fKmCdM Later in life, during the trying times of COVID-19 (Coronaviradae), he made a living off of YouTube doing covers of songs donning his signature hat and glasses. Wow! Now that’s dedication! He will surely be missed in Heaven.32106

- Silvertone Fountains - available now on Bandcamp. In William's World·7 January 2021Way back in 2008 (seems like it was only a couple of years ago), Bill released a trilogy of guitar-based instrumental albums. The first was 'Silvertone Fountains' - and has now been made available from Bill's Bandcamp page! The second and third albums: 'Illuminated At Dusk' and 'Mazda Kaleidoscope', will be released as digital downloads in February and March.17167

- Alan HawkshawIn World Outside The Window·18 October 2021The ubiquitous Alan Hawkshaw was the best-known British composer you’d never heard of Michael Hann The late musician’s track The Champ was sampled on more than 700 other records, while others pop up everywhere from Jay-Z songs to Milk Tray ads. What links them all is his compositional joy and irreverence Alan Hawkshaw, Countdown and Grange Hill composer, dies aged 84 ‘I asked my daughter who Jay Zed was’ … Alan Hawkshaw. Photograph: c/o DNA Music Mon 18 Oct 2021 02.00 EDT lan Hawkshaw’s late-life status as a funky hero to American hip-hop producers came as something of a surprise to him. “I remember getting an email asking for clearance for a piece,” he told me a few years ago. “And I rang my daughter asking who ‘Jay Zed’ was.” Jay-Z was not alone: whosampled.com lists 205 tracks that sample Hawkshaw’s music, right back to the dawn of hip-hop, when the Sugarhill Gang used part of Here Comes That Sound Again, a track by his project Love De-Luxe, in the intro of Rapper’s Delight in 1979. Even then, Hawkshaw – who has died aged 84 – was something of a veteran. His music career began in the early 60s when, as a member of Emile Ford and the Checkmates, he played on bills with the Beatles and the Stones. In the 70s, he joined the Shadows. But the vast majority of his work was undertaken away from the stage. As a session player, he appeared on more than 7,000 tracks, often playing Hammond organ. And as a composer of library music (compositions written and recorded to a brief, to be later licensed for commercial purposes) his music travelled the world over the opening credits of TV shows – though not always in the expected manner: what was written as a news theme might (and would) appear accompanying a sports broadcast, for example. Library composers had no control over where their music went. Hawkshaw worked for most of the big library music companies but is most closely associated with KPM, for whom he produced theme after theme after theme, all written and recorded to tight deadlines and budgets, with minimum fuss. In later years, he and other KPM writers were able to form a band to play live, the KPM All Stars. But even within the strictures of producing music to order, Hawkshaw found freedom.1761
- Nelson/Jobson cassetteIn William's World·26 July 2024Hello, need your help. Sometime in the early eighties, a cassette was made available attached to a magazine or paper. It was a collaboration with Bill and Richard Jobson. Can’t remember the title or the tracks. Possibly Leyasu? Always grateful. Martin p.s. did these tracks appear elsewhere?17258
- Starlight Stories (in praise of)In William's World·24 November 2024Has become my favourite album of late. The title track in particular seems so brilliantly audacious, that if the music critics thought it was by some new young act, they'd be falling over themselves to sing its praises as the major work of an emerging new genius they'd just discovered... ----------------------------------------------------------------- (EDIT: I prompted illustrative AI with lyrics "Starlight Stories, fabled futures, history's mystery, tales to tell" to see what it'd come up. Not bad, but not as good as it seemed to look last night).17202

- Rolling Stone top 250 Guitarists - A joke ?In World Outside The Window·25 October 2023Had to double-check the recent issue of Rolling Stone magazine featurting the TOP 250 guitarists wasn't a special April 1st issue. To me there were several omissions, most notably Bill, but others spring to mind. Was it the best guitarist or the most popular pole ? Also several wacky entries in it. Were the authors musicians or critics ? to me , it more like ill-advised critics ? And were they paid for certain entries to appear ? Has Rolling Stone got any relevance these days anyway in this area ? Wouldn't the list be more appropriate/authoritative coming from a guitar magazine rather than multimedia magazine with probably watered-down musical knowledge. The list is a total irrelevance.17222

- Random ObservationsIn World Outside The Window9 February 2023But it would appear, as Orphan points out, that Bill has stopped interacting with his fans here at Dreamsville, other than announcements of new albums, which Mayor Jon kindly does. I totally agree with your comment Alan about how amazed you are at how much Bill interacts with his fans, and I've made several comments here in the past, echoing such sentiments...at least, that's how it used to be. I'm writing this from the perspective of someone not really involved in any social media, like quite a few other forum members I know of at DV, that just 'don't do' social media. Recently I've been having similar thoughts to Orphan, about Bill not making many/hardly any posts on this forum...and I just got to thinking why?...why has Bill abandoned things here?...He only made 12 forum posts in the whole of 2022 and apart from a Jeff Beck tribute he posted on 12th Jan. this year, the last time he posted anything was on 9th Sept. 2022 = five moths ago!...and no journal entry since 6th July 2022. Now, I do of course realise Bill has had health issues and I'm totally understanding of that, and sympathetic...So I wondered if this was why Bill had not posted anything since last September?...but then the Jeff Beck tribute from Bill popped-up...And what I really noticed was no Christmas or New Year greetings from Bill, no Christmas video card, not even a four-word post, 'Happy Christmas from Bill'...I found this highly unusual and out of character, which I did mention in some other post in Williams World a little while ago and I've never known Bill not wish his 'die-hard' fans and supporters here at DV, a happy Christmas and New Year...So, I was very disappointed, possibly even disillusioned with the 'whole thing', to say the least...As mentioned, I don't do social media, but, just for curiosities sake,I took a little look around social platforms and it appears Bill did post on Twitter on 20th Dec. 2022, wishing everyone a Happy Christmas there, including posting his 'Christmas Card Video' as well, and yet nothing here!.. so, I had no idea of this, not the faintest clue Bill had even done his usual Christmas video, nor would others here who don't indulge in Twitter and Facebook.......Got to admit, I find it all a bit strange, I don't understand why Bill ignored us here at DV at Christmas/New Year, and as I say, us non social media users having no idea Bill had posted up a Christmas video on Twitter (until just having a little dig around) = very disappointing. Anyway, I suppose Bill is the only one who knows that answer, but just to reiterate there are fans who only connect with Bill and his work here at DV, and not on other social media....If I've missed something glaringly obvious, then apologies all-round, but, at the moment at least, it would appear (to me) Bill has abandoned here, but does post and interact on other social media....At least, that's my impression, sorry if I've somehow got that wrong, but that's how it appears to me. Finally, a special shout-out to Jon Wallinger, who basically keeps the show on the road for us all here!...He does a great job coordinating everything, maintaining this site, keeping everything updated, informing us all, of all the new and upcoming Bill Nelson album releases and all that jazz!...You do a great job Jon! and a special thanks for that, as I'm sure everyone here would agree.1

- Name of a band that escapes me.....In World Outside The Window·21 May 2022I wonder if someone here can solve a puzzle that has been bugging me for a couple of years regarding a band's name and their song: Early Seventies song I think (1972?) with a long dark haired female singer - could be the band in the photo I found with no name attached to it. I think they had one fairly big hit which is the song I can't recall. Any ideas anyone?17106
