- Thank you for your kindness and supportIn William's World·15 November 2019Just wanted to say a sincere thank you to everyone for their amazing kindness and warmth our family received last Saturday in Leeds . As a lifelong fan of Bill Nelson it was an honour to be invited to the Old Haunts Event to represent our daughter`s charity Sara`s Hope Foundation A sincere thank you to Bill for his loyal support and having Bill as a Patron of Sara`s charity means so much to me and my family .Through Bill's music I have met so many amazing people who we consider family . Ian Haydock, Eddie McSheffrey,Duncan Noons, Paul Gilby,Jon Wallinger,Martin Bostock, Caroline and Colin Hunter are such a great team and a lovely bunch of warm hearted people who always organise a wonderful event ..right from the Nelsonica`s to the recent event. All of friends really are good people and it was fab seeing old and new faces .I must say a big thank you to a great guy Mike Robinson for donating the magnificent guitar which Bill kindly personalised with his unique style of artwork. Thanks to everyone who purchased tickets for the charity prize draw and congratulations to the worthy winner.Another special guy who is a loyal supporter of Sara`s charity Paul Cosgrove presented us with a cheque for 322.50 from his work and our lovely friend from Ireland made a cash donation - Thank you Eugene and Noleen ! In total the charity raised an amazing 1679.50 GBP... We were over the moon but not surprised as Bill and his Nelsonian family have always been very generous to our daughters charity . Bill was is superb form and we loved every second of his live performance and were blown away with the Old Haunts album ...a magical and memorable day So thank you Bill , Emi ,Elle Elliot and Julia for your kindness and to Bill for making music which is both magical , unique and always connects with my heart - See you next year Warmest wishes Ged Julie Sara Mark and Faye xxxxx71281

- The Strangest ThingsIn William's World·20 October 2024I was lucky enough to attend a conference in the US not long after I discovered Bill’s music in the late 80s, and basically bought every Enigma CD I could find in record stores while I was there. One of these was the rather nice compilation CD The Strangest Things - in retrospect I think Enigma was a great match for Bill, it’s a shame the label imploded so quickly (anyone else hoping that Signature Tunes turns up on Bandcamp someday? I’ve still got my CD, but the Enigma release left out the Yukihiro Takahashi track, presumably for US rights reasons). The “title track” of the compilation is “The Strangest Things, The Strangest Times”, which remained a real rarity until Transcorder came out. It’s got a little bit of found voice that says “He does the strangest things at the strangest times” which has nagged at me since 1989 - does anybody know where it’s from? My initial guess was that it was from a bizarre and rather surreal little animated series called “Murun Buchstansangur” that Channel 4 used as filler if there was a gap in programming in their early years. However, today I finally remembered the name of the series and found some episodes of it on YouTube, and I’m no longer as sure as I was. The voice might be the same as the narrator of said animation, but I’m far from certain. Anyone identified it? I’ve waited 35 years without knowing, so it’s not what I’d call urgent.49220
- My first release in decadesIn The World And His Wife·15 June 2021Here’s some new music that may be of interest to fellow Bill Nelson listeners. (I hope it’s OK to post a link to my bandcamp page here - I see others have done it). My first release for many years is an EP featuring some melodic pieces in my distinctive style, followed by some more "ambient" experiments with infinite guitar and strings. Enjoy - and please let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Martin. Martin Coles just released Red Skies, check it out here Here’s what they say about it: “What’s that new sound? At long last… I’ve just completed some new music. Please have a listen at martincoles.bandcamp.com Let me know what you think. Thanks, Martin.”49237
- The Continuing Story Of Buyingloadsof BillIn William's World·13 December 2019So ... Yesterday was The Last Of The Neon Cynics & Hip Pocket Jukebox followed by Luxury Wonder Moments (while watching depressing election results come in). Today - think everyone's a bit stunned really - anyway - carried on with Stereo Star Maps (sound like there's lots of gorgeous stuff on that) followed by the 2nd disc of Songs For Ghosts. Tomorrow will be more Ghosts & New Northern Dream ... only 5 to collect now so if anyone's got spares of Custom, Starboard, Illuminated, Reflector or Fountains ...49296
- Becoming up to date.In William's World·11 March 2025Obviously there is push back but as I reach Marvellous Realms today is looking very fine especially the weather. Seeing Uriah Heep last week was uplifting and as contemporaries of BN although quite different have collectively worked hard to make us feel good. Long live rock n roll in all it’s forms. There is more than enough room for everybody.25213

- A Bill Nelson MiscellanyIn William's World18 May 2020THE VIEW FROM MARRIOT'S BUILDINGS... Here's a photo' I took a few years ago of the back yard of what was once Marriot's Buildings where I was born and lived until I was three years old. I'm standing holding the camera at the very spot where my grandmother's kitchen door originally looked out onto the yard. The old building on the left of the yard was, back in the late 1940s and '50s, a printing works called 'Walkers.' As a little kid I would play in that yard with the neighbour's kids and we'd look through the windows of that building to see the printing presses at work. It has survived all these years but is no longer used as a printing works. On the right hand side of the yard was an outside toilet block, now demolished. Marriot's Buildings was also demolished in the early '60s, and my grandmother was relocated to a new flat on Ivy Estate, near where my parents and I lived at Conistone Crescent. (We moved from Marriot's Buildings when I was three years old.) The road at the far end of the yard is Lawefield Lane which leads to the Park about a third of a mile away. In my childhood days, it really was a lane, most of it being a dirt road with a farm near the Park end. Of course, the metal walled building you can see on the other side of Lawefield Lane, behind the red car in the photo, didn't exist when I lived there with Mum, Dad and Gran. There were a few old terrace houses located in that spot originally. But, that yard featured strongly in my infancy and I'm just happy that it has somehow survived and not succumbed to further development.117

- Be Bop Deluxe "Futurama" RSD Blue Vinyl ReissueIn William's World·22 April 2024Hey, did anyone here pick up this new vinyl repress of "Futurama," which was a Record Store Day release, on blue vinyl. I didn't see it at any of the shops here in town (Memphis, TN, USA) but it is available as an online purchase. I have a period vinyl copy on Harvest that I bought, sealed, at a record swap some years ago, but the vinyl is very noisy. Also, this new edition has the new stereo remix from the box set, which is a plus. Anyway, hope this finds everyone in Dreamsville in fine fettle.56408
- Well, it's been a while but I've been keeping an eye on you all from afar ;-)In World Outside The Window·20 November 2021😀 Hello again to the folk of Dreamsville! It's taken me an absolute age to re-register on the new website, but I'm here at last. You may remember me from the past as Garden of Surreal Dreams, but while that still remains the name of my very occasional and ongoing musical sound project, I've decided to slim it down for my online moniker here. I've been checking in on Dreamsville shenanigans regularly though, so I think I'm mostly fully up to date on all matters Nelsonic 😎 Anyway, it's late now but I'll add a forum post here and there when I feel the need. I hope you are all well enough these days!5692

- IAN NELSON ANNIVERSARY.In William's World·23 April 2020Today, (23 April) marks the passing of my younger brother, Ian, who left us an unbelievable 14 years ago. I remember supporting my mother as we stood shivering in a cold wind, watching Ian's casket being lowered into the ground at Wakefield's cemetery. Now my mother has gone too... The 23rd of April was also Ian's birthday. He was just 50 when he died. Ian was a wonderful brother, much loved by all who knew him and I still miss him profoundly. His smile and good humour, along with his musical talents blessed my life for fifty years. A tremendous loss to me. Here are two photographs: One is of Ian when he was a child, taken in the garden of the bungalow at Reighton Gap on the East Yorkshire Coast. The bungalow was owned by Ada and Herman Ackroyd who were friends of my parents and they would let us holiday there for free. The photo' is taken during the latter part of the 1950s. The second photo' is of Ian playing his sax during a soundcheck at 'The Duke Of Cumberland' pub in North Ferriby at one of the Nelsonica events.56345

- Random ObservationsIn World Outside The Window20 August 2022Could Dreamsville get any duller? Hardly any life in it... bar a (very) small handful who make the odd comment, and then no real heartfelt interaction between members...with the exception of three or four people....It's almost become a grind. Don't suppose that comment will win me many fans, but that's fine...just another insular nothingness.214

- 'DAZZLEBOX' MAY BE THE FIRST ALBUM OF 2021.In William's World18 February 2021I'm now beginning to choose tracks for 'Dazzlebox.' I've recorded quite a few new tracks since the list of possibilities I posted at the start of this thread and there are more than enough pieces to make a double album, (with some left over.) So, a double it will be, I think. I'll let you see a track list once I've finalised it...63
