- Trini Lopez, Singing Star Who Mixed Musical Styles, Dies at 83In World Outside The Window·14 August 2020His blend of American folk, Latin and rockabilly music captivated listeners worldwide. His secret: arrangements that people could dance to. He died of Covid-19. by Jim Farber | New York Times Aug. 11, 2020 Trini Lopez, who had worldwide hit records in the early 1960s by creating a unique mix of American folk, Latin and rockabilly music, died on Tuesday at a hospital in Rancho Mirage, Calif. He was 83. His longtime friend and collaborator Joe Chavira said the cause was complications of Covid-19. Mr. Lopez’s two biggest records — “If I Had a Hammer” and “Lemon Tree” — had both been hits as well for the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary several years earlier. But Mr. Lopez’s versions soared even higher on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. His “Hammer” reached No. 3 (Peter, Paul and Mary’s had gotten as high as No. 10), and his “Lemon Tree” got to No. 10 (theirs had peaked at No. 35). They also had more international impact. Mr. Lopez’s version of “If I Had a Hammer” shot to No. 1 in 36 countries and sold more than a million copies. His stylistic advantage? Arrangements that listeners could dance to. more1317

- Digital Art Museum, TokyoIn William's World·12 June 2019This Mesmerizing Digital Art Museum Is Everything Published 1 week ago on 2019-06-03 📷 “It’s like stepping in the world of kaleidoscopes…” The Mori Building Digital Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan is the first of its kind. An artist’s paradise and a photographer’s fulfilment. Created by a talented group of artists and scientists, the place speaks wonders. Mostly because of its technicolour innovations. Imagine stepping into space where you are surrounded by art everywhere. No boundaries, no time constraints. Just you with the freedom to explore. Perhaps, this was the vision that teamLabs founders thought of whilst creating this concept. Famously called as Borderless, the exhibit in its literal sense, is without any boundaries. 📷 Image Courtesy: borderless.teamlab.art A place where individuals can move around, wander and communicate with each other. Moreover, it’s not only about aesthetics. teamLabs Borderless has strategically planned the area for people to experience. Spread across 10,000 square metres, the place is full of multidimensional elements. Besides, this digital art museum is slowly gaining popularity worldwide. It has already attracted a few people since its launch in 2018. Located in the Odaiba, Tokyo; the museum is controlled by over 470 projectors and 520 computers. You’d be surprised to know how one can interact with the art display. As well as touch the graphics or add your own artworks on-the-go. The museum is full of colours, incredible lighting and much more. In fact. there is an actual map. One can visit the same room without notice. Apparently, because the artwork keeps changing. Likewise, you can experience multiple environments all at once. It ain’t called borderless for nothing. The art literally moves freely. Almost like transcending into the world of fantasy. For instance, The Forest of Resonating Lamps is a room where you can relive the experience of Rapunzel. Just like in the animated movie, where she dances as the lanterns fly high in the sky. The best part, gorgeous lamps are colour changing. 📷 Image Courtesy: borderless.teamlab.art Another room that counts as a top attraction is the Crystal World. Besides, this room is an Instagram lover’s dream come true. 📷 Image Courtesy: teamlab.com Moreover, the variety of digital art presented is not limited to adults only. There is a specific room for kids to play in. Not to mention, a trampoline room where you can jump around freely. Sounds interesting, indeed! 📷 Image Courtesy: timeout.com Although, the major museum is set up in Tokyo. teamLabs is expanding its reach. Exhibitions are arranged in and beyond Japan. It’s about time we see something like this in India. Nonetheless, do visit this place if Tokyo is on your travel list. It certainly does look fascinating and I do hope an exhibition can find it's way somewhere to these shores in the not too distant future.13217
- The David Gilmour Guitar Collection sells for $21.5 millionIn World Outside The Window·21 June 2019Bidders from all over the world compete to buy guitars from the personal collection of the Pink Floyd singer and songwriter, including ‘The Black Strat’, which realises $3,975,000 21 June 2019 | Christies The David Gilmour Guitar Collection, the largest and most comprehensive sale of guitars ever offered at auction, told the story of one of the world’s most influential guitarists. The 126 lots, which included iconic instruments played by Gilmour on Pink Floyd’s greatest tracks as well as his solo albums, totalled $21,490,750 — the most valuable musical instruments sale in auction history — with proceeds being donated to ClientEarth. In the months leading up to the auction, over 12,000 fans attended the tour stops in London, Los Angeles and New York to get up-close to the guitars played by the Pink Floyd guitarist, singer and songwriter. In excess of 500,000 people viewed the content around the sale on Christies.com, and more than 2,000 bidders from 66 countries registered for the sale, which took place at Christie’s Rockefeller Center HQ. On the day of the auction, the unprecedented level of interest was evident in the queues that snaked around the block and the fact a second saleroom had to be opened up to accommodate the crowds. The lucky ones who made it inside witnessed some extraordinary results. The best, however, was saved until last when ‘The Black Strat’, which was integral to the recording of Pink Floyd albums The Dark Side Of The Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977) and The Wall (1979), sold for $3,975,000 — a new world record for a guitar at auction. more: https://www.christies.com/features/David-Gilmour-Collection-auction-results-9974-3.aspx .1361
- IT'S CATCHING ON...In William's World·7 July 2019Those of you who have followed my journal entries and related posts for several weeks will know that I warped Boris Johnson's nickname, 'Bojo', (bestowed on him by his adoring fans,) to the humorous alternative of 'Bozo', (i.e.: the clown.) Bozo aptly sums up his incompetent, bumbling, buffoon-like qualities. Qualities which, it seems, Tory voters are looking for in our next Prime Minister. Well, someone either noticed my use of the word 'Bozo' in connection with Johnson or came to a similar conclusion. It could be just coincidence but I was amused when a T-Shirt company called 'Red Molotov' popped an advert in my inbox yesterday with a new shirt emblazoned with a wild-eyed Boris and the word 'Bozo' printed beneath his face. Nice one!13243
