Yes, indeed. Thank you, Jon, and thanks for the email earlier. I have taken advantage of Bandcamp Friday to buy 'Caliban', 'Crimsworth' and 'Simplex', all in their extended forms, just before going on holiday. What a soundtrack they can become for the next couple of weeks! So I have a good quality copy of 'Caliban' at last - and it only took a quarter of a century to find it!

That's actually a very cool (partial?) setlist: it's all from Bill's 'new' solo years; it includes songs from every album released up to that point; it includes one more that we knew existed (Contemplation) and two that were genuinely fresh and (like Contemplation) would be on the next album. I think I have a CD of the same recordings somewhere. That can't have been the whole set though, can it?

I think that - for added value and to gain the proper sense of 'Bill at work' - the box set could do with both a live gig recording (perhaps from Canadian or US shows) and the BBC radio sessions (two sessions for David 'Kid' Jensen from 1982 and 1983). Without these, there would be a definite feeling of missing dimensions of how Mr N worked (superbly!) at the time.

I know I've been complaining but that is certainly a more encouraging way to look at the set, KK. Thanks for pointing out what we can actually look forward to here! As I've said, it really is a stage of Bill's work that I am amazingly fond of.

I do see what you mean about new recordings (the sessions) but even then we're just getting alternative versions of known songs. I just meant that only After Life, Boom Year Ahead and Art Of Vision are 'new' songs. (Possibly 'Jazz' as well, but I've got a copy of that somewhere... from somewhere?). Listening to Bill's new releases, we at least know we're getting fresh songs to learn and hum to ourselves later! ...And that is despite the early- and mid-80s stuff usually including my favourites.

Based on the idea that the QDAGOTB set at last actually exists and might even be being mailed out, I have just ordered and paid for one. But now I have done, I'm suddenly very aware that the set isn't actually good value for money. Three CDs (and a blu-ray that just repeats one of the CDs) in a big box for £60 !! There seems to be just three songs on there that I don't already have elsewhere on CD. Sorry to be negative, but aren't we being asked a lot for some smart repackaging here?

Surely, a lot of what Bill is referring to us is the very substantial set of B-sides and extra tracks that cropped up at the time? A Cherry Red box set would be bound to include those anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more leftovers, but it may not be much that didn't see the light of day at the time. I love the stuff from that 'era' of Bill's work - approaching electropop from the point of view of a genuinely experienced songwriter, musician and studio user. Deeper, cleverer and just that little bit darker in tone than his contemporaries. Let's not lose a minute of what is available in the archives, please! A gig recording should be possible too, shouldn't it? Meanwhile, can someone edit the title of this thread from 'Love the Whitls' to 'Love that Whirls, please???!

Yes, very enjoyable... ...but a lot of that is because the first two-and-a-half minutes are quite so similar to the original. It actually starts to work nearer the end when lyrics of Do You Dream In Colour are dropped in cleverly - as a sort of deadpan rap! And the video compilation of frantic edits of some very suitable stuff is great fun. So, overall, it's a happy addition to the genuine tributes that are out there. Thanks for sharing it here.

OK, I admit it. That's really quite exciting!

Kemp does actually say "Must get him on" when Bill is first mentioned. Not sure though if this is Bill's favoured sort of chat... and, let's face it, it would be bound to bang on about BBD at the expense of the rest of his artistic output. Still, it would be a good way to be seen, heard and (for once) acknowledged by some of those who owe him quite a lot. It's always great to pick up on Bill's actual status with other musicians - always a valued one-off of an artist, somehow apart and different from the groups and musicians in wider established genres. It's a cool place to have been!
