I was hoping they just forgot to list them on the package, but no such luck—only 14 tracks on disc one.

I received the 2-disc version in the mail today. The packaging matches the quality of the BBD reissues, with a nice thick booklet and cool poster. I haven’t had a chance to listen yet, but I was disappointed to find out that the BBC session doesn’t appear to be included on disc one. The track listing says it only includes the album proper and the “Furniture Music“ B-sides.

Well said, Bill. I never understand those “[insert artist here] needs an editor” comments. Those sorts of opinions seem like shorthand for “I can’t keep up, so they should slow down.” Another artist I’m a big fan of, Robert Pollard (leader of the band Guided By Voices), often elicits similar reactions for his prolific output. I’d much rather let the artist have free reign to create what (and how much) they want—you don’t have to like all of it, but the more there is to choose from the better! A smaller body of work may be easier to grasp, but you lose the sense of discovery that makes big discographies like yours and Pollard’s so much fun to explore. (I admit that I like being challenged as a listener, though, and I understand that’s not how everyone approaches music—or art in general.)

From the latest newsletter (dated 1 August): “Fortunately, Bill is recovering nicely and is back in his studio recording more music. The new tracks that he's recording means he is having second thoughts about which tracks to include on the upcoming 'Marvellous Realms' as well as the running order, so we'll have to patiently wait and see which ones make the final cut!”

Excited to download and give it a proper listen later today. Also, very glad to hear Bill is recovering well and working on music again!

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone! So far I've purchased The Romance Of Sustain, The Alchemical Adventures Of Sailor Bill, Fancy Planets, and Transcorder: The Acquitted By Mirrors Recordings from the Bandcamp page and am enjoying all of them. Planning on getting a couple more this weekend once the paycheck hits my bank account. (I also bought a download of Noise Candy on iTunes, which I know Bill is not a fan of—but in my defense, I had a $50 gift card and I needed to spend it on something!).

@Palladium by “most universally well-regarded,” I just meant those were the ones that seemed to be mentioned again and again by people I asked. With so many to choose from, I’m sure there’s no real consensus (and it’s all subjective anyway, right?)!
