For the many guitarists in Dreamsville, a lesson in tone and touch from the late great Paul Kossoff (and retro-Medievalists Amazing Blondel).

Another unique prodigy guitarist, acclaimed by his peers, who met a tragic end. Some familiar faces appear in this documentary. Well worth a watch...

100% live, at home on the couch, stark, almost elemental. Makes most contemporary music seem contrived and weak. Enjoy. Alba gu bràth

God bless Don (and Phil ) Everly. Very sad loss and an era ending very rapidly. Makes the Duane Eddy/Phil Everly post from a couple days ago kinda poignant.

Beautifully produced by Duane. Arranged by Warren Zevon. James Burton on the session. Didnt care for the massively successful cover but this is the superior (in my opinion) original. One of rock and rolls greatest voices and perhaps overlooked these days....

Interesting who you come across on other peoples Facebook pages- perusing Facebook today I see that none other than Bill Nelson is a mutual Facebook friend of Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna guitarist Jorma Kaukonen. Go figure. FYI- Jorma turned 80 this year (!!!) and is still making some of the best music of his long and distinguished career. Try his 1974 solo debut Quah- voted number 1 in the All-Time 50 Long Forgotten Gems in the third edition of Colin Larkin's All Time Top 1000 Albums. Or his Grammy nominated "Blue Country Heart" from 2002. He's still got it!

At age 77. Back in the day, every aspiring teen guitarist had a go at Hilton's treatment of "House of The Rising Sun". In their prime, The Animals were a great band and Hilton was the real deal. Well done and Godspeed. https://youtu.be/ckAAj6mu2zI

In a coma, on a ventilator after a coronary event of some type. Family at his side, apparently his passing is imminent. Leslie was of course best known for his work in Mountain and West, Bruce and Laing. The remarkable tone he got out of that most basic of electric guitars, the single pickup Les Paual Junior, made a big impression on many noted guitarists (excerpted article below from Blabbermouth music site) Born Leslie Weinstein, West first gained worldwide recognition in 1969 as the guitarist and singer in the groundbreaking rock band MOUNTAIN. Included among Leslie's many fans and disciples are six-string luminaries such as Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, John McLaughlin, JETHRO TULL's Martin Barre, Warren Haynes and Ritchie Blackmore of DEEP PURPLE. Blackmore has stated that Leslie's phenomenal playing on "Mississippi Queen" served to redirect the course of DEEP PURPLE's music in an instant, ultimately resulting in the brutal hard rock intensity displayed on "Deep Purple In Rock". For Barre, meeting Leslie in 1970 served to inspire the writing and playing on JETHRO TULL's most successful album in the band's history, "Aqualung". "Prior to going into the studio to record [1971's] 'Aqualung', I met Leslie, whose playing I absolutely loved," Barre revealed. "Leslie is well known for his association with Les Paul Juniors, and just after meeting him, I picked up a 1958 Junior because his sound was so incredible. I would say that he's the only guitarist who has ever influenced me directly."

Such an icon and his passing, even at the ripe old age of 90 after a long distinguished career, really hits home. May flights of angels sing you to your rest, Mr. Connery.

Uplifting live performance from an LP I recall Bill has said he owned/admires- we've lost so many musicians of this caliber/from this era its getting poignant...glad to have been born in the 50's.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSaJu2hiEfA&fbclid=IwAR09oe-VY8UE8BvucLR0utyE8a_-UbR1hmStU-aFpFDhqkwGdeZSZFZqEao

Amazing actress and the personification of British beauty in the 1960's. I couldnt have been more than 7 or 8 when the Avengers first came on in the States but somehow she rang my adolescent bell..I think I wanted her to be my schoolteacher. Irreplaceable. Raise a glass to this talented beautiful and oh so classy woman!

A giant in the world of classical guitar- heres a nice tribute from Steve Howe- Farewell to Julian Bream Julian Bream has been the most respected of British musicians, over the course of the last 60 years. His expressive classical guitar performances, alone or with top orchestras around the world carved him an illustrious career, which he then diverted from by playing and reviving the lute, solo and with his Consort. What a major influence he has been for to us all for so many years! A remarkable guitarist who brought so much attention to the valuable repertoire of the modern guitar, whilst also exploring music for the lute. He brought new life and vigour to every note he played. He'll not be forgotten! Steve Howe London 14th August 2020
