Bill needn't worry, absolutely fantastic...The songs are really good and sound amazing.

There is a slightly different sonic edge to it, a freshness if you like...but also a depth and warmth, a richness you would associate with analogue..so, IMHO, really, really great...loving the minor key melancholy.

It's almost like the Cubase has fired some fresh and powerful wind into Bill's sails. I also think his last few recordings and from listening to these samples, this album, Bill is definitely writing and recording some of the best material of his life..Wonderful.

I too much prefer a physical CD. But, as soon as I get it, I rip it to my computer and share it around all my devices and never play the actual physical CD again...it just sits there gathering dust - but I like to think that I have got something physical for my money, rather than just spending money on a download...but at the end of the day, (for me) the 'product' is the music which sounds exactly the same in whichever format - and with downloads, you're not cluttering up the world with more plastic! 😎

I've always taken the stance that the music is what matters, and the format is almost irrelevant. I say almost, because I do have preferences. I do like my physical formats. I'm rather old fashioned and prefer the tactility of being able to actually hold the release in my hands. The way Bill has handled his digital releases is so awesome. Including all of the artwork makes it so much more worthwhile. It's unfortunate that more artists don't include the same type of content. I guess that also has to do with whether they are good artists and/or designers as well. Richard H. Kirk put out some MP3 only releases, many years ago, and the cover artwork included was so disappointing, to put it nicely. Jon, you mentioned the ecological aspect of downloads but another major benefit of the digital format is the amount of physical space they don't take up. I have a nice a nice external drive that has all of my digital releases on it & another one that is the backup of them. Compared to the shelves of CDs, vinyl & cassettes it's really quite tidy. The one drawback to all of these physical and digital releases is that it costs me so much. Being an anal collector, of Bill's work, I "have" to buy them all. 😉 At least I know the money's going to support a great artist.

..And I suppose part of the reason we do like the physical format so much, harkens back to our vinyl buying days..for me, especially right through the 1970's. In a nutshell, what you got was a great slab of music and a fantastic 12inch x 12inch piece of art, most of the time anyway. The album sleeve and artwork was always, and still is to me, a very important and integral part of the overall experience and enjoyment of a particular piece of music. I only have to think of an album, from whenever, and I can immediately 'see' the sleeve cover art....and I think it's something Bill has been so considerate over and good at over the years, marrying great art work to his releases, it's always a great overall experience and pleasure.

@Jon Now that you mention it. I do like the vinyl. Records that is. And, the occasional...oh, never mind.

I will say that Burning Shed have done a great job of getting the orders across the pond, either on or near the release date. Very impressive, in my opinion. Now, fingers crossed.
