BLACK MOUNTAIN SIDE
As I was recovering from COVID I did a classic Led Zeppelin tune called Black Mountain Side. It's a great tune to explore modal thinking in a non-Western tradition. Zeppelin was always exploring the Middle East sound with different turnings and songs like Kashmir. This song is done, except I don't know of anyone who plays the tabla. If there is a Bill Nelson fan who would like a go at it, please let me know. You can record the tabla part and send it to me as a MP3 file. I did GIMME SHELTER totally by sending MP3s back and forth to Chris Rockheart, who lives in Niagara Falls.

I always liked that song, but I never figured out how it was in keeping with the Hippy, non materialist times. There was a whole vibe about being rich but not really caring so much, more about hedonism and being fashionably cool... Movies like Duffy reflect that zeitgeist or spirit of the times. Money was always in the background like some dreaded parental ghost, but the important things were to be exotic, travel and have fun experimenting.
