Here's an unusual Japanese semi-acoustic from the '60s.

The late, great Roy Orbison with his Gretsch/Gibson hybrid guitar and a Vox AC 30 amp with exactly the same type of chrome stand that I had on my own AC 30 way back in the mid-'60s.

Found this pic on the internet. A fan seems to have both the Astroluxe Custom Limited and the Astroluxe Cadet in his collection. Nice to see my designs being appreciated!(Though he seems to have the Duesenberg Trem's arm fitted the wrong way 'round!) 😉

Now this is the anniversary today of seeing this group in concert in 1999. All are Blue Note artists in their own right. They got together & toured as a sort of “jazz supergroup” on the occasion of Blue Notes 60th Anniversary that year. Fantastic show. But found out last week that they did produce this album, which I’d never heard about. Tried to see about ordering it. No, Blue Note doesn’t have a CD to sell, as it was originally an on-demand offering. It is available through streaming. Amazon.com had a couple at so-so pricing. But found a copy on Discogs.com for a more reasonable price. So it arrived in the mail today, on the anniversary of seeing those guys live. Whoa! .

No guitars in this pic though there is a guitarist. Those of us of 'a certain age' will remember when Jimi Hendrix appeared live on the Lulu television show back in the '60s. The Jimi Hendrix Experience suddenly brought to a halt their scheduled performance and went into an improvised jam of The Cream's 'Sunshine Of Your Love' to mark the break up of Clap[ton, Baker and Bruce. A few seconds into the jam Jimi mischievously looked at the camera and said "We're gonna be taken off the air any minute now..." Or words to that effect. It's one of the legendary moments of live music television. Anyway, here's a nice photo' of Jimi and Lulu together. She's clearly looking like the cat who got the cream!
