Getting a sense of déjà vu as we enter the Trump campaign's intensified dirty tricks phase. The rightwing mobs trying to stop vote counting seems reminiscent of Florida 2000. And Trump was trying to "normalise" the idea of massive mail-in vote fraud well before the election, as his campaign realised those votes tended to lean towards Democrat. Sense of a very ugly authoritarianism, baseless banana-republic-style "legal" challenges to normal democratic processes (ie counting votes!), with sleazy shirt-tucker Rudy trying to give it a patina of lawyer respectability.

Trump is rushing through a string of executions in his final days. He will have presided over more executions then any US president in over a century. He has broken with a 130-year precedent of pausing executions during a presidential transition. (While pardoning his corrupt power-elite pal, Michael Flynn). Meanwhile, Biden has said he will seek an end to the death penalty. Trump's a hard-line conservative, of course (among all the other things).

I first saw Television opening for Peter Gabriel in New Jersey in 1977. I went in knowing nothing and leaving a fan. I next saw them, (without Richard Lloyd) about 5 years ago,; they were brilliant still. That was perhaps the greatest gap in time I have had between seeing a band perform live. Verlaine, was pivotal, important and from what I have read, a lovely guy. It's a sad loss.

This ones a little different...To be honest, there are only a very small amount of Bowie covers that I like, or can even listen to...However I found this obscure live solo performance (vocals and acoustic guitar), a version of The Bewlay Brothers, and I actually really rather like it. Not sure I can put my finger on it, possibly because I think this guy captures a little of the essence of the original and perhaps the accent on the vocals adds a strange, but rather appealing twist, throwing in accidental originality from that angle, rather beguiling as a result....See what you think.
