- RIP Gavin BakerIn World Outside The Window·16 December 2020It is with a heavy heart that I share news of the passing of my friend and fellow Nelsonian, Gavin Baker, on Monday. I met Gavin here, in the Dreamsville forums. (It has been so long, I can't recall his screen name here, though I think it was simply "Gavin Baker".) We had short exchanges in these forums, mostly, until I finally made it to England for Nelsonica in 2008. I was walking through the hall at the Park Inn hotel, wearing my tie-dyed t-shirt, when a loud voice said, "Hey, Jerry Garcia!" I turned to see who had said that, and came face to face with a large, bald man with a smiling face. He introduced himself, we sat down and had a chat. That was the only time Gavin and I met in person. His ill health would never allow him to travel far. All of our other communication was online, either here, or via FB. For years, we chatted and just stayed in touch. Gavin was in ill health, with histoplasmosis, a disease he contracted from prolonged exposure to pigeon droppings. He actually lived much longer than expected. He was a giant of a man, a former weight lifter and wrestler. He played the guitar, and quite well. He was a devoted husband and father. Gentle (and yet fiercely protective of his family), self-deprecating and kind, he was just a good man. The world is a lesser place without him. Rest in peace, my friend.2375

- Instrumental Track of the DayIn World Outside The Window9 July 2023I use a program called MetaSynth which works on similar principles; it might have grown out of the UPIC concepts, not sure. But the idea is the same, to be able to create sound from graphics, lines, or pictures. Tom2

- Books, Magazines, Papers: What Are You Reading? In World Outside The Window6 March 2020Just started it. Didn't know about it until yesterday and since it's read by the author decided immediately it was to be my next Audible credit. Steve' s really not only a gifted guitarist, but also speaker. He knows how to go slow, pause and all that, and he's a knack for telling a story. Quite an observer. He's the best interviewer as well. Steve's 'I'm a victim' thing I like just a little better than the version of it sold to us over these many decades by his more famous fellow (sometimes) Angeleno, John Lydon.23
- McCoy Tyner has left us, aged 81In World Outside The Window7 March 2020All the things he did with John Coltrane are great, but so are his solo albums. Had a friendly discussion with him sometime in the early '90s at Yoshi's in Oakland, after his show. McCoy looked rather imposing to me always, but he was an extremely relaxed and pleasant person, and he actually showed me some of the piano technique. I'd wanted to know about those "blocks of notes" he described in interviews so he played me some basics, explaining how it works, sitting next to me on the piano bench.23

- Live Track of the DayIn World Outside The Window14 March 2021A different version of the Atlanta Rhythm Section, a different line up...Same song, So Into You, but Steve Stone on lead guitar...I won't pit Barry Bailey against Steve Stone, that's just futile, and a bit dumb. They are their own players and both bring something different to the table. TBH, I prefer Barry Bailey as a player, but have a listen to Stone's solo on this outing, it's pretty hot. Atlanta Rhythm Section , So Into You with amazing guitar solo.23

- Your Favourite Promo Music Vid'sIn World Outside The Window8 November 2020The Psychedelic Furs - Dumb Waiters (Official Video) Love the early Furs material....They are a band that were really massive for me and my friends back in the day..Their debut album is still a big favourite of mine..as near to perfect as could be...Fond memories of me and my bandmates and our girlfriends, and friends, listening to it in a flat we used to share (not all of us, lol), in the early hours, planning our own upcoming adventures and musical escapades...Everything seemed so much simpler back then, oh happy days.23
