1995 article on Bill in The Independent

I don't recall reading this before (although I wouldn't be surprised if it's been linked to here in the past) - it's an article about Bill in The Independent (a national UK newspaper), in the period prior to the release of After the Satellite Sings. The article's author, Mark Prendergast, says that Chance Encounters in the Garden of Lights is "one of the finest instrumental albums of mystical ambience ever." (I have a feeling The Independent website might require you to register for free to view the whole article, although it didn't with me - maybe I've registered in the past and forgotten. I can always copy and paste the full text, if wanted).

Death of John Miles

Sad to see news of the death of John Miles. I can't say I was huge fan but he was an admirably skilled musician, composer and arranger who was trying to do something a bit different and sitting at the edge of pop music as it was at the time. That he was a northerner and eventually modestly received some recognition in the Prog Awards just a few years ago suggests further similarity to Mr Nelson, but let's at least give a sentimental listen to Miles' mega-hit 'Music' - I still seem to know every word and note without listening first!!!

I recall Bill mentioning that Hank was an inspiration. It was great catching The Shadows on Sunday Night At The London Palladium (1965 vintage!) last night on Talking Pictures TV. They did an instrumental number before Cliff came on and Hank was TASTY! I can't see what model of guitar he's playing but it's a beauty! (and look at that backdrop!) Cheers!
