- Look at the state we're in...In World Outside The Window26 June 2021Why does every term Republicans use as a scare tactic, sound like a cool band name? .31
- Look at the state we're in...In World Outside The Window28 May 2021I was merely trying to make a joke for our funny right wing chum when I suggested that cognitive dissonance might be a musical term. 'Cognitive dissonance' : "the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioural decisions and attitude change." Not sure how you can get that 'stuffed up your 'arrises' though, (or your arse for that matter.) Perhaps only he has the answer to that. But I suppose practice makes perfect! 😉😜😁31
- Look at the state we're in...In World Outside The Window26 May 2021I fully believe that history will judge both David Cameron and Boris Johnson very harshly indeed. Perhaps post-UK, after the next indieref. Thanks to inept opposition, and having the mainstream media in their pocket, the Conservative government of the past decade has had a completely free ride. In a functioning democracy, any one of a number of very serious issues ought to have brought them down and ended a few political careers. As it stands, we are enjoying an economic honeymoon period post-covid. The full impact of government incompetence, hubris, and misinformation will only be felt when the honeymoon is over and we have to start paying for it. As for Cummings, for some reason I can't help thinking of Iago.31
- For Bill, Radium Girl ... and the rest of us ...In World Outside The Window29 June 2020I have a couple of DVDs of these guys (and others,)jamming together but this is a clip that I've not seen previously. They're all stellar players, of course but it's interesting to see their individual styles as they each take solos. Grant Green has a more relaxed, 'cool' style whilst Barney Kessell is more 'hot' and flamboyant. Kenny Burrell leans more towards the Be Bop style of players like Tal Farlow with fast flurries of notes. The three players cover a lot of jazz guitar ground between them. Tonally they're all slightly different too with Barney having a more 'cutting,' edgy tone whilst Grant's is moodier, mellower and Kenny's is more mid-range textured. A very interesting clip, alec and thanks for posting it.31
- Ennio Morricone has left usIn World Outside The Window6 July 2020The Clint Eastwood 'Dollars Trilogy' of Spaghetti Western movies, 'A Fistful of Dollars', 'For a Few Dollars More' and 'The Good, The Bad and the Ugly', were pioneering...masterpieces that initiated the popularity of the genre. An integral part of the success of this and the whole dynamic of these films is the music of Ennio Morricone..it is as important as any other aspect of these films. In other words, imagine these three great films without the film score and soundtrack of Ennio Morricone...unimaginable, right!? In fact, I still have an LP record of the soundtrack, or snippets of, the first two movies (or, maybe all three, I forget..will have to dig it out)..superb stuff and uniquely brilliant.31
- PETER GREENIn World Outside The Window25 July 2020Only now heard of Peter Green's death after returning from another day dealing with the contents of my late mother's house. Now I'm doubly sad. Peter was one of the greatest blues guitartists of all time. BB King said that he was the only other blues player who could make him sweat. I've admired Peter Green's playing since first hearing 'The Supernatural' when he was with John Mayall. His work on the first Fleetwood Mac albums was outstanding and his version of 'Need Your Love So Bad' was soulful and showcased his heartfelt vocals. 'Man Of The World', 'The Green Manalishi' and 'Albatross' were all classic tracks which I loved back in the day. In the late 1960s I saw Peter play with the original Fleetwood Mac at a pub just outside of Bradford. I went with fellow Global Village member Alan Quinn. I think Global Village drummer Bryan Holden may have come with us too. There was no stage at the pub and Fleetwood Mac set up on the floor, the same level as the standing audience. I stood just a couple of feet away from Peter and his playing was a revelation. I leaned so much about feel in that hour or so of witnessing him play. All that was before Peter's mental health condition kicked in and there were many 'wilderness' years ahead. Thankfully, Peter eventually returned to live performance but still seemed somewhat fragile. He was 73, only a year and a bit older than myself. It saddens me so much that we're losing an entire generation of great musicians at such an alarming rate. Rest in peace and God speed Peter.31
- Milton Glaser, Master Designer of ‘I ♥ NY’ Logo, Is Dead at 91In World Outside The Window8 April 2021Just ran across a couple of photos of Milton Glaser that I took in 1989 at the AIGA National Conference in San Antonio, TX. Got to meet him, participated in a conference discussion with him (we got into an argument, but that’s another story). These shots are in the evening when dining/entertaining going on.31

- Lou Ottens, inventor of the cassette tape, dies aged 94In World Outside The Window12 March 2021I love cassette tapes!...I still use them, record little guitar ideas etc, I have various cassette players and still listen to commercially released pre-recorded tapes. Have quite a number of classical cassettes manufactured in the 60's and 7o's, and rock and pop tapes, and the vast majority have stood the test of time very well, and sound great. There was a whole thing back then, when, as a consumer, you could first get your hands on cassette recorders and players = genuinely innovating and so exciting at the time..I remember a similar exciting buzz around that period, with electronic calculators and LCD watches.. we'd never had or seen anything like it, ground breaking stuff and so happy to have been around when it happened.31

- Aye aye..... Been a while folks - how we all doing, what's going down....? 🙋In World Outside The Window11 February 2023Hello!......It's been reasonably quiet around DV of late, but nice to see you pop in Ian. Like the guitar photo btw..😎 It's a shame in a way the old forum has completely vanished, there were some good threads and posts and lots of BN related, and music in general, facts and stats on there...It would have made a pretty decent reference archive, even if direct interaction re posting was disabled. But, this new forum is pretty cool and tbh, I do prefer the layout and functionality, and general look of this new site. Quite a lot of the old regulars don't post anymore, but I imagine they keep a track of things from the sidelines, and everyone moves one, in one way or another.🙂31
- Aye aye..... Been a while folks - how we all doing, what's going down....? 🙋In World Outside The Window12 February 2023Hiya Ian! Always good to hear from the old Dreamsville posters, hope all is good in Felix world mate! Like Tourist has mentioned, a lot of the old gang seem to have faded into the background of late, but I’m sure, like me, they keep in touch by dropping in now and then to see what Bill’s been up to..🤓31
