HERE'S AN OLD PHOTOGRAPH FROM THE EARLY 1960s I FOUND ON THE INTERNET. IT'S APPARENTLY OF A GUITAR PLAYER FROM DONCASTER CALLED KENNETH IVESON WHO I PRESAUME WAS ONE OF THE THOUSANDS OF YOUNG GUITARISTS WHO PLAYED FOR FUN AND NEVER MADE IT TO THE PROFESSIONAL STAGE. BUT WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THESE TYPE OF OLD PHOTO'S IS SEEING THE GUITARS AND AMPLIFIERS WE WERE ALL USING AT THAT TIME, ESPECIALLY IF WE RELIED ON PARENTS TO BUY THEM FOR US. IN THIS PHOTO' KENNETH IS HOLDING A HOFNER SOLID AND TWIDDLING THE CONTROLS ON A WATKINS COPYCAT ECHO UNIT PLUGGED INTO A WATKINS DOMINATOR AMPLIFIER. AND ALL IN WHAT LOOKS LIKE HIS MUM'S BACK GARDEN...

ANOTHER NICE PHOTO' OF ONE OF MY ALL TIME HEROES AND INSPIRATIONS, WES MONTGOMERY. WES WAS A BIG INFLUENCE ON JIMI HENDRIX TOO, ESPECIALLY WITH HIS USE OF OCTAVE BASED LINES. WES AND JIMI, SADLY, BOTH DIED TOO YOUNG TO CONTINUE THEIR GUITAR VISIONS INTO OUR CURRENT TIMES.

I wonder if anyone here remembers the Italian Meazzi company from the '60s? They are probably more well known for their echo units, but here is a pic of a guitar they made...

THIS IS A RARE, (AND POSSIBLY ORIGINAL,) D'ANGELICO 'TEARDROP' ARCHTOP. THE COMPANY THAT NOW HOLDS THE D'ANGELICO NAME AND MANUFACTURES GUITARS IN KOREA DID, BRIEFLY, REPRODUCE THE 'TEARDROP' AS A CUSTOM-MADE, BUILT IN THE USA MODEL. I'M NOT SURE HOW MUCH IT COST. IT WAS IN A GORGEOUS BLUEBURST FINISH AND I UNDERSTAND THAT IT SOLD IMMEDIATELY TO SOME WELL-HEELED COLLECTOR.

And it is anniversary time, again! .

'Kon Tiki' was one of my favourite Shadows tracks. I bought it as a single in the early '60s when I was a teenager and have memories of hearing it in my head as I walked down Conistone Crescent on Eastmoor Estate at that time, (where I lived with my parents.) It was a time when I was still finding my feet as a guitar player, and the instrumental music of the period was hugely influential on the work I would achieve much later in my professional career... Here's an image of the sheet music for 'Kon Tiki.'
