My concern regarding AI is not that it will become truly sentient and wipe us out. It's unlikely to happen in our lifetime for several reasons. No, my concern in the short to medium-term is corporations using ever more sophisticated AI to largely replace the human workforce. It's already underway. This means we're going to need a system very like Universal Basic Income, and higher corporation taxes to pay for it. Attitudes about 'working for a living' and defining our status and worth by our occupation will have to change. And that's going to be a massive social problem. Imagine it.

Thanks for the replies guys...No, I'm not trying to contact astro, or anyone from the old forum, personally. I do miss quite a lot of the old crew who used to post regularly on the old site and the general banter it used to generate (ups and downs) and I think there was much more of a community spirit back then and so, to that extent, I do miss it...Maybe when I made the post above, I was feeling a little nostalgic/wistful/reflective. I'm sure anyone who used to be a regular and wanted to pick up the thread again on the new forum, would do so, so it's best left at that really...But I was just sending out a few nice positive vibes, in the hope that J and one or two of the old crew might just receive them...Anyway, thanks for the input and advice/ideas, much appreciated and nice to see some 'old faces' again!
