- Coldplay Fix YouIn The World And His Wife·19 January 2022OK. I know Coldplay is probably one of the most unpopular bands for many musicians, but I like this song and although I like to do covers with more original "twists" I love the power pop on this and couldn't think where to go with it, so the early part is "a la me" and then isn't https://soundcloud.com/peterbrookesmusic/fix-you0035

- What does Bill Nelson think of Trout Mask Replica? In World Outside The Window·23 July 2022Bill Nelson is an artist who was ahead of his time in many ways. When Sound-On-Sound came out in 1979, it was unlike anything that came before it. Upon release it's intricacies, loudness, and low fidelity perplexed critics and Bill's prior fans, becoming a very divisive album. This reminds me of another album that released just a decade prior and remains to this day a divisive album, that being Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica. Given the fact that the record received much attention since it's release, I'm certain Bill must be aware of it. Has he ever brought up the album in interviews or anything? What are his thoughts on the album?0086
- Barry Gray advertsIn William's World·13 July 2020Was thinking of your track Sleeplessness featuring the voice of Sir Compton Mackenzie advertising Horlicks ... and a pal of mine sent me the album Stand By For Adverts (Rare Jazz, Jingles and Advertising Electronics by Barry Gray) and so I got to wondering, Bill, if you're familiar with these jingles by Barry Gray (Thunderbirds are Go, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, UFO, etc.) ...0077

- BillsIn William's World·22 August 2020Hi, while driving through forest of Galloway recently, Rising Sap came up on shuffle, immediately preceded by a similar sounding track of Frisell's Intercontinentals - interesting coincidence. Currently being knocked out by Six String Super Apparatus, The Unrealist & The Jewel, but Chance Encounters (both discs of which, i feel need to be taken as a single piece, as does Simplex & Beauty & The Beast) is always on in recent days. Just wondering if anyone out there has an original copy of Luxury Lodge or Neptune's Galaxy they would be willing to sell? P.s. how do i get my profile pic the right way up? Cheers Steve00166
- About the David Bowie rumoursIn William's World6 May 2022I think what a waste of opportunity. Somebody should have made a move. The timing would have been perfect around 1981 with your Quite Dreaming album and Bowie twiddling his thumbs with the Elephant Man. Your next album The Love that Whirls was strong compared to the Quit Dreaming which, despite John Leckie, seemed like an in between album of experimental demos. Bowie's next album Let's Dance was strong too. The reason I'm mentioning this is that I think you still can play with Bowie. That would be in the same way as the Beatles came back to perform on a John Lennon tune. As outlandish as this may sound and, no doubt, you would just be content to work away on your own music, but it is a possibility that worth exploring. Okay, forget redoing Sunburst Finish because that is a lot of painstaking work... but one song with Bowie? Fun and an adventure! You might even start a trend and give Bowie and yourself a posthumous hit. Get Reeves Gabrels and his computer involved, and John Leckie and/or Tony Visconti producing. Anyway, I think it's far out, but not that far that people wouldn't appreciate it.0

- Bill's ongoing recording problemsIn William's World·2 August 2019Bill I was thinking it may not be your computer at fault. You first told us of your problem with Cubase, the serial number would not let you do anything. The serial number was for somebody else. Do you think this somebody else had the same problem as you are having and sent Cubase back because he could not get anywhere with it too, and you were the next customer they sent Cubase out to? Just a thought00169

- May DayIn World Outside The Window·1 May 2019Originally a pagan festival of fertility which celebrated spring’s arrival, May Day endured as a celebration of courtship and lovemaking for young married people. In the Middle Ages, churches supported May Day celebrations, but around Edward VI’s rule during the Protestant Reformation, concerns began to arise. According to Philip Stubbes, I have heard it credibly reported (and that viva voce) by men of great gravitie and reputation, that of fortie, threescore, or a hundred maides going to the wood over night, there have scarecely the thirde parte of them returned home againe undefiled. In the 19th century, May Day became popular again, this time as a holiday for children. Traditions such as the maypole and May Queen evolved around this time. Image provided by Wikimedia Commons0018
- Better Than The Original? In World Outside The Window20 May 2022In classical music a composer writes a work, e.g. Beethoven's 5th Symphony, and many orchestras record their interpretation of it. Often dozens of interpretations by different conductors and orchestras exist. Why does this not apply to rock music? Why don't other bands record their complete version of, say, Dark Side of the Moon, Sgt. Pepper, Rumours etc? It would be great if there were several versions of classic rock albums by different artists and not just by the writers.. The notes and words would have to remain the same as the original but the arrangements and production could be vastly different in each case. Single tracks get covered by other artists so why not entire albums?00
