- BE BOP DELUXE DOCUMENTARY.In William's World4 March 2019Thank you for posting the link. I was lucky enough to see BBD right as they released Drastic Plastic and toured the US. I believe it was 1 April 1978, a very warm day, in NYC. My collection of BBD CDs were lost in divorce court so it gives me great pleasure to share this picture of the set of BBD CDs from 1990, that spelled out the band name, which I recently put together from sellers across Europe.12

I remember you brought up Sassafras before and I remember seeing their record covers when I was a kid and really liking the name. Sort of like Be Bop Deluxe in the ease of switching between styles, tempos, moods, etc. and the slickness, creativity and dexterity involved with that .... and then the vocals bring it to a different place, one that's more in a genre that might also include King Harvest, War, Tower of Power, Santana. If I'd been in charge of arranging such things in the 1970s, I might've placed them on a bill with Be Bop Deluxe ... and Thin Lizzy ... and/or King Harvest, War, Tower of Power and Santana ...12

If he was, as Tourist says support on the Drastic Plastic tour, I must have seen him at The Leeds Grand Theatre. I can't remember what sort of reception he got in that day, but I enjoyed his performance and bought the LP, (on which Bill plays) sometime after.12

- Steve Jones, great interview..In World Outside The Window12 November 2024To be fair, the Glen Matlock interview is fun, funny, and informative. Yes, Jones was possibly on the verge of mentioning Bill Nelson when he started listing guitarists before he was interrupted. Who knows? ☺️ Have noticed that Jones when he’s the interviewer lets his interviewees complete their thoughts before he jumps in with his own. Liked the Burnel story featuring the two Triumphs as well. Like a scene from the film “The Leather Boys”. It also was interesting to hear about Galen & Paul, getting a bit stir-crazy during his stay in Majorca during C19 from Simonon. I’d wondered about that. They talk all over Phil Manzanera but Manzanera has a unique way of getting a large amount of information out without effort. Matt Johnson calmly presides over the proceedings and the Rockenteurs hardly say anything. I know what you mean by the awkwardness of the Morris conversation. He always seems a bit anxious. All those CDs behind him looked like sculpture. Kemp and Pratt are like Martyn Ware in that there’s no shortage of enthusiasm. Is it fair to say that theirs is similar to the Radcliffe & Maconie style?1
