- Sort of a dumb question: How can I get my avatar configured? I uploaded a pic, but does not "Publish" Does this need Mod approval? In World Outside The Window5 June 2020@jherbertbpc those are two different things . You have to go to your profile and up on the left under the little circle where your avatar would be hit the edit button. Then a little camera icon will appear in the circle, and when you push that it will ask you if you want to take a photo or access your picture library on your device Or computer. make sure the photo you want to use is in your photo library, choose it and it will automatically size it for you.0

- Catherine Calderwood, Scotland's chief medical officerIn World Outside The Window7 April 2020Visiting your second home, should you be in such a privileged position to own one, does not constitute essential travel as per government guidelines and plain old common sense and the Coronavirus pandemic is most certainly not an excuse for a holiday or family outing. People that choose to act in a selfish and indifferent manner during this crisis and unnecessarily visit smaller rural communities, in particular, are potentially putting all that local population, those that live and work there, perhaps generations of the same families, at increased risk..that's a fact, period...or do you think it's ok to do that?? People must act responsibly during these hugely challenging times. I saw some BBC news footage from a specialist Coronavirus ward today and it was truly harrowing..for all there..patients, doctors, nurses and the dying....Now is not the time to act selfishly! ...and back to rural communities again, common sense tells one they have much less in terms of medical facilities and staff, some communities a very basic cottage hospital, if they're lucky and many no hospitals at all, for many miles, so they are much less well-equipped to deal with any medical emergencies, let alone something as potentially deadly and non-discriminating as Covid-19. These second homes, and more importantly, these rural communities will still be there after the virus has gone. But if mindless idiots insist in acting selfishly, and needlessly visit them, then the people who live and work there might not be. So staying at home, only going out for absolute essentials as infrequently as possible, so as not to put others at risk, is the sensible, responsible and caring thing to do..it's called being a decent human being and surely keeping as many people safe and alive is the top priority. As far as Calderwood goes, she openly flouted everything she had been telling the Scottish population not to do on a daily basis, in her role as Scotland's chief medical officer. The fact that she was willing to do this twice in a period of ten days, with her full immediate family in tow, shows she thinks these 'rules' clearly did not apply to her, or her family. I won't go over the points I made about her again, they are there to read above, as are the linked news articles. She is a disgrace and deserved to loose her position and all her credibility, at the very least. It's at times like these, especially, that lots of people look for and need help, clarity and good leadership, from those who are willing to lead by example.0
- The Shadows as played by Brian MayIn World Outside The Window7 April 2020Nice music recommendations and discussion, Roger. Thanks. I’m familiar with all Sylvian and all Eno probably, but I’ll check out the Tomas Dvorak, Gordon Giltrap and in that combination you mentioned as well as Matthew Halsall, Travis and Fripp. Seems like everything released maybe after 1975 and definitely after 1978, that’s in an ambient category is in some way even unconsciously influenced by Eno. John Foxx’s ‘London Overgrown’ (2015) I’ve been listening to for relaxing and for sleep as well. ‘Cathedral Oceans’ (2016) and ‘My Lost City’ (2009) also from John Foxx will get you relaxing, dreaming and imagining. Also check out the Ghost Harmonic release called ‘Codex’ (2015). ‘Tiny Colour Movies’ (2006) is something to drift away to. Wadcorp’s said on here at DV that ‘Tiny Colour Movies’ is his favourite JF. All his material’s on Bandcamp. Listening (and ignoring in the Erik Satie sense of ignoring) ‘Flux’ (1981) by Robert Turman. He’s got many interesting releases and they’re on Bandcamp. Any Erik Satie without a doubt is possibly the king of ambient music or ‘furniture music.’ Same with Claude Debussy. Anything from the former members of Japan are very atmospheric and ambient and wonderful listening. Always unique the music that those people release. Anything and everything from Roedelius and Moebius solo or as Cluster ... or in Harmonia with Michael Rother do the trick as do all the Michael Rother records. Anything by Ennio Morricone I love to listen to, but I’m particularly caught by his ‘60s through ‘70s soundtracks, especially the Spaghetti Westerns. I know he wishes people would listen to his other music as well. Piero Piccione is another Italian movie composer who has amazing stuff available to listen to. Stelvio Cipriani’s soundtrack called ‘Tentacles’ (1977) is a favourite. All the music that Bill Evans released in his life are great listening. I think of him rightly or wrongly as the Erik Satie of jazz. There’s just something in his piano playing that’s indescribable.0
- RIP John PrineIn World Outside The Window25 April 2020He was one of those who seemed to have been born with an old soul. Have can a 24 year old write Sam Stone or Hello in There? I remember him being labelled a "New Dylan" along with Bruce Springsteen and Steve Forbert. I think that label has the potential to do more harm than good, it's all marketing nonsense anyway. We don't need a new Dylan, the one we have is doing just fine.00
- Catherine Calderwood, Scotland's chief medical officerIn World Outside The Window7 April 2020It's just one of those things Alec, that I couldn't actually believe what I was reading (about Calderwood's behaviour and actions, especially considering her position and ultimate responsibilities).0

- Penderecki has left usIn World Outside The Window3 April 2020My introduction to his music was The Shining and some years earlier with The Exorcist and those freaked me out, but at the same time it was expansive, this sense of something big and amorphous and that quality draws in the listener.00
- The Shadows as played by Brian MayIn World Outside The Window29 March 2020Nice. Thanks, Roger. I've now subscribed to his channel. Interesting to hear his guitar tone on that melody line. - Catherine Calderwood, Scotland's chief medical officerIn World Outside The Window6 April 2020Gotta wonder if such people over here in the US are under the same sort of scrutiny. Maybe they are? I don't think so. You only have to look at Trump and the bunch of Muppets (sorry, Muppets!) who flank him at a press conferences. I would love someone to point out to him that they are not standing 2 metres away from each other... :)0
- Catherine Calderwood, Scotland's chief medical officerIn World Outside The Window7 April 2020Self isolating in the back end of nowhere is the best thing you can do. And if you get sick? It is okay to put extra stress on the limited medical resources that might be available in the countryside? Rather unfair to the people that cannot go off to their second homes isn't it? Stay put and let the government decide when you get it owing to the governments demographic engineering... Paranoid much? I don't think any government wants you to get it. (Now, we may wish that certain members of our particular governments might contract it.) They all have enough problems. To the extent that it is possible, not getting it is in your control. Yes I know that I sound like I am drinking the gov't kool-aid but that is how I see it.0

Well everyone else here at home is sleeping peacefully...I'm still up, nice glow from the fire, lights dimmed low, glass of Johnnie Walker green label eased with a little water and just spent the last hour listening to your mix, and it's just flown by, really great!...thanks for posting and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great balance and flow and of course loving the oh so soulful voice of Joan..
