- Trini Lopez, Singing Star Who Mixed Musical Styles, Dies at 83In World Outside The Window·14 August 2020His blend of American folk, Latin and rockabilly music captivated listeners worldwide. His secret: arrangements that people could dance to. He died of Covid-19. by Jim Farber | New York Times Aug. 11, 2020 Trini Lopez, who had worldwide hit records in the early 1960s by creating a unique mix of American folk, Latin and rockabilly music, died on Tuesday at a hospital in Rancho Mirage, Calif. He was 83. His longtime friend and collaborator Joe Chavira said the cause was complications of Covid-19. Mr. Lopez’s two biggest records — “If I Had a Hammer” and “Lemon Tree” — had both been hits as well for the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary several years earlier. But Mr. Lopez’s versions soared even higher on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. His “Hammer” reached No. 3 (Peter, Paul and Mary’s had gotten as high as No. 10), and his “Lemon Tree” got to No. 10 (theirs had peaked at No. 35). They also had more international impact. Mr. Lopez’s version of “If I Had a Hammer” shot to No. 1 in 36 countries and sold more than a million copies. His stylistic advantage? Arrangements that listeners could dance to. more1317

- The Jewel - eagerly anticipated! In William's World9 April 2020Wow, I didn't realize the digital download would be available the same day as the physical release. I'm a BN completist in terms of his music but not necessarily the physical CDs. I would have gladly given up my CD to someone who missed out had I known this was immediately available. Actually it's available now while my CD is somewhere over the Atlantic! Perhaps I should have known about the simultaneous release but I haven't been following the forum as often as I had been. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the music. Per samples it sounds like a laid-back soundtrack for a quiet C-19 afternoon indoors.13
- Wants his treatment for allIn World Outside The Window·8 October 2020Why doesn't he generate a proclamation to that affect and ask the Congress to pass legislation to that effect and build an infrastructure to implement or provide existing hospitals/care centers with the treatment. Why haven't his advisors proposed this? Collusion? Why has the press not asked this question of him? Collusion? Why haven't legislators and senators proposed this. Collusion? Why hasn't his base demanded this? Collusion? Has stated we are in a war with COVID-19. Why not implement the War Powers Act to implement the above? Collusion? Or is he more interested in packing the Supreme Court and courts (his legacy?) {Or is he just blowing air out of his back end about treatment for all?} (protest) I'm requesting the above treatment be available for all (if they want it). I don't think this protest/request could be more peaceful - unless is was not posted at all - LOL1352

- Jets at DawnIn William's World·1 August 2020Just roused the neighbours with my annual Jets at Dawn observance. "The calendar said first of August." It does indeed. I've been doing this [every year I remember, which isn't all of them] for about 40 years. It reminds me of summers past, loves lost; a general melancholy, but tempered by that kind of "England between the wars" reminiscence, of innocence, cricket on the village green - something I don't think ever truly existed but seems to linger as some kind of odd 'racial memory' - probably based on old black & white movies rather than reality. Every year I ask myself, "Would it have been better if that guitar had been in tune?" Every year, the answer is, "No". I'm normally very sensitive to tuning, but I really like the fragility it gives to the overall track. Beautiful.13216

- REMEMBERING IAN-NEW JOURNAL ENTRY 23 APRIL 2019.In William's World·23 April 2019I've posted a new journal entry which reflects on my memories of my dearly missed brother Ian who would have been 63 today but sadly passed away on this day in 2006. - IT'S CATCHING ON...In William's World·7 July 2019Those of you who have followed my journal entries and related posts for several weeks will know that I warped Boris Johnson's nickname, 'Bojo', (bestowed on him by his adoring fans,) to the humorous alternative of 'Bozo', (i.e.: the clown.) Bozo aptly sums up his incompetent, bumbling, buffoon-like qualities. Qualities which, it seems, Tory voters are looking for in our next Prime Minister. Well, someone either noticed my use of the word 'Bozo' in connection with Johnson or came to a similar conclusion. It could be just coincidence but I was amused when a T-Shirt company called 'Red Molotov' popped an advert in my inbox yesterday with a new shirt emblazoned with a wild-eyed Boris and the word 'Bozo' printed beneath his face. Nice one!13243

- Digital Art Museum, TokyoIn William's World·12 June 2019This Mesmerizing Digital Art Museum Is Everything Published 1 week ago on 2019-06-03 📷 “It’s like stepping in the world of kaleidoscopes…” The Mori Building Digital Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan is the first of its kind. An artist’s paradise and a photographer’s fulfilment. Created by a talented group of artists and scientists, the place speaks wonders. Mostly because of its technicolour innovations. Imagine stepping into space where you are surrounded by art everywhere. No boundaries, no time constraints. Just you with the freedom to explore. Perhaps, this was the vision that teamLabs founders thought of whilst creating this concept. Famously called as Borderless, the exhibit in its literal sense, is without any boundaries. 📷 Image Courtesy: borderless.teamlab.art A place where individuals can move around, wander and communicate with each other. Moreover, it’s not only about aesthetics. teamLabs Borderless has strategically planned the area for people to experience. Spread across 10,000 square metres, the place is full of multidimensional elements. Besides, this digital art museum is slowly gaining popularity worldwide. It has already attracted a few people since its launch in 2018. Located in the Odaiba, Tokyo; the museum is controlled by over 470 projectors and 520 computers. You’d be surprised to know how one can interact with the art display. As well as touch the graphics or add your own artworks on-the-go. The museum is full of colours, incredible lighting and much more. In fact. there is an actual map. One can visit the same room without notice. Apparently, because the artwork keeps changing. Likewise, you can experience multiple environments all at once. It ain’t called borderless for nothing. The art literally moves freely. Almost like transcending into the world of fantasy. For instance, The Forest of Resonating Lamps is a room where you can relive the experience of Rapunzel. Just like in the animated movie, where she dances as the lanterns fly high in the sky. The best part, gorgeous lamps are colour changing. 📷 Image Courtesy: borderless.teamlab.art Another room that counts as a top attraction is the Crystal World. Besides, this room is an Instagram lover’s dream come true. 📷 Image Courtesy: teamlab.com Moreover, the variety of digital art presented is not limited to adults only. There is a specific room for kids to play in. Not to mention, a trampoline room where you can jump around freely. Sounds interesting, indeed! 📷 Image Courtesy: timeout.com Although, the major museum is set up in Tokyo. teamLabs is expanding its reach. Exhibitions are arranged in and beyond Japan. It’s about time we see something like this in India. Nonetheless, do visit this place if Tokyo is on your travel list. It certainly does look fascinating and I do hope an exhibition can find it's way somewhere to these shores in the not too distant future.13217
- The David Gilmour Guitar Collection sells for $21.5 millionIn World Outside The Window·21 June 2019Bidders from all over the world compete to buy guitars from the personal collection of the Pink Floyd singer and songwriter, including ‘The Black Strat’, which realises $3,975,000 21 June 2019 | Christies The David Gilmour Guitar Collection, the largest and most comprehensive sale of guitars ever offered at auction, told the story of one of the world’s most influential guitarists. The 126 lots, which included iconic instruments played by Gilmour on Pink Floyd’s greatest tracks as well as his solo albums, totalled $21,490,750 — the most valuable musical instruments sale in auction history — with proceeds being donated to ClientEarth. In the months leading up to the auction, over 12,000 fans attended the tour stops in London, Los Angeles and New York to get up-close to the guitars played by the Pink Floyd guitarist, singer and songwriter. In excess of 500,000 people viewed the content around the sale on Christies.com, and more than 2,000 bidders from 66 countries registered for the sale, which took place at Christie’s Rockefeller Center HQ. On the day of the auction, the unprecedented level of interest was evident in the queues that snaked around the block and the fact a second saleroom had to be opened up to accommodate the crowds. The lucky ones who made it inside witnessed some extraordinary results. The best, however, was saved until last when ‘The Black Strat’, which was integral to the recording of Pink Floyd albums The Dark Side Of The Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977) and The Wall (1979), sold for $3,975,000 — a new world record for a guitar at auction. more: https://www.christies.com/features/David-Gilmour-Collection-auction-results-9974-3.aspx .1361

- BowieIn World Outside The Window21 February 2023METROBOLIST (AKA THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD) 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITIONMetrobolist (AKA The Man Who Sold The World) 50th anniversary edition — David Bowie DAVID BOWIE Metrobolist (2020 UK/EU limited edition 9-track LP pressed on 180-gram Gold Vinyl, individually hand-numbered on the red centre label, limited to just 50 copies and randomly distributed among the black and white vinyl variants. The gold vinyl records are numbered 1971 to 2020, this example is number 2003. ...Yours, for £3000. DAVID BOWIE - 'METROBOLIST’ (AKA ‘THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD') 50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION REMIXED BY TONY VISCONTI WITH ARTWORK BASED ON ORIGINAL TITLE & DESIGN RELEASED 6th NOVEMBER, 2020 ON LIMITED VINYL AND CD FORMATS, ALSO FOR STREAMING AND DOWNLOAD AT STANDARD AND HIGH RESOLUTION DOWNLOAD (96kHz/24bit) Parlophone Records is proud to announce release details for METROBOLIST (aka THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD) 50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION to be released on 6th NOVEMBER, 2020. This November sees the 50th Anniversary of the release of David Bowie’s The Man Who Sold The World in North America. The rest of the world would have to wait until April 1971 to witness Bowie’s landmark entry into the 1970s, marking the beginning of a collaboration with guitarist Mick Ronson that would last through classic works including Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane—as well as the first in a 10-year series of indispensable albums stretching through 1980’s Scary Monsters… Originally titled Metrobolist, the album's name was changed at the last minute to The Man Who Sold The World -- the original stereo master tapes were in fact labelled Metrobolist, with the title ultimately crossed out. The 2020 re-release of the album under its Metrobolist moniker has been remixed by original producer Tony Visconti, with the exception of the track ‘After All’ which Tony considered perfect as is, and is featured in its 2015 remaster incarnation. The Metrobolist 50th anniversary artwork has been created by Mike Weller who was behind the originally intended album artwork which Mercury refused to release. The gatefold sleeve also features many images from the infamous Keith MacMillan Mr Fish ‘dress’ shoot at Haddon Hall which would cause so much controversy when one of the shots was used on the cover of the The Man Who Sold The World album in the rest of the world in spring of 1971. The original U.S. release of The Man Who Sold The World utilised some of the original Metrobolist design elements. As with the Space Oddity 50th anniversary vinyl, as well as a 180g black vinyl edition, it will come in 2020 limited edition handwritten numbered copies on gold vinyl (# 1971 - 2020) and on white vinyl (# 1 - 1970) all randomly distributed. For the 50th anniversary the 1970 story of the gatefold sleeve can be told in full with unused ‘dress’ photos. As Mike Weller explains: “There is a story concealed in the carpet-scattered playing cards, David has thrown a plain 52 card deck in the air as though “casting the runes” but in a significant break from 60s Tarot divinations such as I Ching etc he casts runes using a four-suit pack and switches man-dress, along with the Court Card of the Future from right hand to left, signifying a new decade and new cultural era.” David personally delivered the Metrobolist concept and his gatefold plan to the record company for production and now with this release, it can finally be seen much closer to its original concept. Bowie speaking in 2000 said of the sleeve imagery: "Mick Weller devised this kind of very subversive looking cartoon and put in some quite personalised things. The building in the background on the cartoon in fact was the hospital where my half brother had committed himself to. So for me, it had lots of personal resonance about it.” DAVID BOWIE METROBOLIST TRACKLISTING The Width of a Circle All the Madmen Black Country Rock After All Running Gun Blues Saviour Machine She Shook Me Cold The Man Who Sold the World The Supermen METROBOLIST ALBUM AVAILABLE 6th NOVEMBER, 2020 ON PARLOPHONE13

- Bill is discussed on ‘The Album Years’ podcast. In William's World26 October 2024The album years podcast is like listening to the same things the NME used to print in the late 70s early 80s .... banal opinions about most of the music I had no interest in at the time ... Steven Wilsons opinions are a lot like his music ...occasionally insightful but mostly conservative and derivative ...... sounds a little harsh but there you go 😉13
- White cover Sound on Sound. In William's World10 October 2024I've got a vague memory of seeing one of those in a box at a record fair about forty years ago. Obviously, in those days, the idea of buying a copy in a different sleeve just wasn't affordable. It's nice to now know that it was real and I didn't just dream it! [Yes, I used to have dreams about finding amazing records in boxes at record fairs! Sad, I know.]13

- BowieIn World Outside The Window15 February 2023This series of grins reminds me of a dream I once had that was about 10 seconds in length where Alec Guinness and David were in an old-time looking b&w movie together. David had a bowler on and was grinning as Alec was telling a funny story inaudible to the viewer. Alec looked as he did in ‘The Lavender Hill Mob.’1
