Always been a massive fan of Gang of Four and always liked Andy Gill's stripped back, angular guitar style and sound...The first album, 'Entertainment!' and single, 'Damaged Goods', were, and remain, classics, and a big influence on me and my friends back then..I've put them up as 'single track of the day' quite a few times here. ..I had no idea he'd died, I'll have to find some news...and I kid you not, only this Wednesday just gone, we played a cover of 'Damaged Goods'..unbelievable. Very rare to play any covers at all. so why this one (apart from we love it) only the other day, seems quite mystifying..... Oh damn, another one gone. R.I.P. Andy Gill

Been listening to Kilburn and the High Roads (the precursor to Ian Dury and the Blockheads) because I’d been listening to the audiobooks “That Close” by Suggs and “Growing Out Of It (Machinations Before Madness)”. Both mention Dury, the Blockheads, and the High Roads often. You can hear their influence on Madness. Didn’t know about Kilburn, London, I don’t think, nor Kilburn High Road railway station. One of my favourite pop songs and promo videos is “Questionnaire” by Chaz Jankel. He’s the guitar and keyboard player in Ian Dury and the Blockheads.

Saw Tackhead and Mark Stewart & The Maffia several times in the late 80s - an incredible sensory experience. Malcolm X was the first sampling record that I can remember being aware of, and it's a track that has stayed with me - it opened my eyes and ears, musically and politically. So strange, I was thinking about this program just a couple of months ago, first time in many years. A random thought out of the blue. I used to watch this with my dad back in the late 60's and remember we both enjoyed it. I can't remember much about it and I haven't bothered looking it up on Wikki or anything, but seem remember it was 'Clarence the cross eyed lion' I think.

I remember in 1977 being given tickets by a record company rep to see them in London (with Blondie as support). Was blown away by them and those first 2 LP's have always been with me. Sad sad times, rest in peace

It seems like I saw that same tour in April '77 in SF at Winterland. I remember Peter Gabriel but absolutely nothing about Television. Funny that.
