- WILLIAM'S WONDERFUL WORLD OF GUITARS. (A personal series of six string sentiments...)In William's World6 September 2020A very early photo' of John Lennon and George Harrison with typical gear for semi-pro bands back then. John's playing a Hofnerr Club and George a Futurama. The amp is an old Selmer 'Truvoice.' Hard to imagine what these two young men would eventually go on to achieve and how they would impact the whole world with their music...21

- WILLIAM'S WONDERFUL WORLD OF GUITARS. (A personal series of six string sentiments...)In William's World2 September 2020Now this guitar really is cool...It looks fab and I love the paint job. Finished in the original Orange amp colour code and themed around Orange amps, I would love to own one of these. Unfortunately, it's a complete one-off Manson MA Custom guitar, created by Manson Guitars Works for UK's Orange Amplification...called 'Orange-Aid'..😎...she's a beaut.21

- WILLIAM'S WONDERFUL WORLD OF GUITARS. (A personal series of six string sentiments...)In William's World26 October 2021...and while I'm on the Howard Roberts thread, I think this is well worth posting. A demo showcasing a 1978 Gibson, Howard Roberts signature model. It looks gorgeous and sounds wonderful through the Fender 60s Twin Reverb. I can just picture Bill playing this guitar. Have you ever played/owned one Bill?...I can't remember you ever mentioning this particular model. Guitar of the Day: 1978 Gibson Howard Roberts Artist Model | Norman's Rare Guitars21

- WILLIAM'S WONDERFUL WORLD OF GUITARS. (A personal series of six string sentiments...)In William's World26 May 2021I may have posted something before about the 'Emerald' guitar company in Ireland who make carbon fibre bodied acoustic guitars. They're beautifully built with ergonomic curves, quite unlike other acoustic guitars, but rather expensive. And yes, I've been lusting after one for a while but after my recent purchase of a White Falcon I dare not venture there for fear of upsetting the domestic applecart! But here's a very nice demo of one of their models, a tune by the talented, 'Without Willow' duo. Even if you're not a guitarist it's well worth watching as it's a beautifully played and sung piece of music... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3eoVH0U6mI21
- WILLIAM'S WONDERFUL WORLD OF GUITARS. (A personal series of six string sentiments...)In William's World30 July 2020I was researching that guitar that Caterina Valente has in the pictures above, and came across this photograph of her with a vintage Lang guitar. Interesting looking. There are lots of pictures - and even video on youtube - of her with the guitar from the earlier pictures. But always without the pickups. It is a Levin Royale archtop. Levin was a Swedish guitar maker, and they were so good that CF Martin bought the company in 1974, just to take out one of their serious competitors. The pickup is apparently a DeArmonde Rhythm Chief.21

- Bill Nelson and Sandie Shaw on telly discussing David Sylvian’s ‘Brilliant Trees’In William's World14 February 2023If I recall correctly, it was due to Bill’s positive comments regarding ‘Brilliant Trees’ that lead to David contacting Bill and the pair becoming friends…which included David inviting him along to his exhibition of photography and, of course, Bill’s contribution on the ‘Gone To Earth’ album. So, I think the ‘bad luck’ comment would be viewed by both Bill and David as incredibly inaccurate, as that particular TV show spawned a great friendship.2
- The marvelous Marvelous realms …..In William's World14 February 2023Alan And Anyone over the Atlantic The reason that there is a delay not due to UK strIkes or US slowdowns The Royal Mail got a massive hit from Hackers apparently and NO International mail was being sent unless by recorded means ordinary mail was stopped completely!! - Charlie's Fretless BassIn William's World10 April 2023Good points, Tourist. It is difficult to imagine it. I keep thinking of "Glow World" and "Metaphysical Jerks" but that was a different style entirely and those two are a different style from one another. "Metaphysical Jerks" is pretty hard and crunchy. Thinking on it, along with those you mentioned Tourist, I could also imagine the fretless employed on "Japan" and on "Surreal Estate" as well as on "New Precision" . . .2

- Rooms with Brittle Views (1981 remake)In William's World22 July 2024It's a cracking recording, and I remember hearing it on the John Peel show at the time. Peel's typically droll introduction to that track was something like "Another track from Bill Nelson in session now - this is a version of one of his, er, 'hits'..." Interesting that you think it has the TLTW vibe. I guess it's edging in that direction, but I tend to think of it as 'classic' Practical Dreamers sound. If my memory serves me well, this would have been recorded at the time of the PD's 1981 tour, and is therefore a perfect sample of what the band sounded like 'live' (or close to). Such an interesting phase of Bill's career this. He was going really left-field pop with tracks like RWBV. Commercial suicide, in a sense, after Be Bop Deluxe, but I love the fact that he took this anti-career move.21
