One of the great releases of the late 60's. I have probably had this in my collection for 50 years (😱) now. Every track is different and, imho, all of them are excellent.
I never had the pleasure. I have seen a few live videos of them. I would haved loved to have seen them at somewhere like Winterland in SF with an old fashioned light show (while my mind was suitably 'enhanced' 😉).
Just watching Chrissie Hynde at Glasto with her new Pretenders line up (Martin Chambers has hung up his drum sticks by the look of it). The woman still got it!
I have spent the last few days listening to all of their releases. They are really striking a chord with me. Especially this one and the 5 previous releases. I will probably by their discography.
A striking return from Kristeen Young. Creative and at times brutal. Think of a cross between St Vincent and Nine Inch Nails with Kate Bush-like vocals.
Tricot - Jodeki (Excellent)Last year's album from the 'excellent' Japanese math rock band (check out the instrumental versions as well - they stand up on their own). They've already got another album out.
Three years following Sables' release, Vaura returns once again with the forward-and-backward-thinking Vista Of Deviant Anatomies. Now, what does it mean to look in both human time directions simultaneously? Well, for one, Vaura has obvious influences, namely selections from the early 4AD catalog and David Sylvian's post-Dead Bees on a Cake output, and they wear them on their sleeves. As such, Vista Of Deviant Anatomies is dramatic and atmospheric, a dark affair as obscured as the gothic influences which fuel their music. Being "goth" means understanding this certain period of time–an aesthetic, a sound, a vibe–and making it your own, and Vaura are undeniably "goth" in this sense. Looking forward, though, is where this album really begins to shine. Members and avant-garde metal champions Kevin Hufnagel (Gorguts, Dysrhythmia et al) and Toby Driver (Kayo Dot, ex-maudlin of the Well et al) leave their marks all over this album, be it Driver's unique production–at times hollow and terrifying and at others welcoming and warm–or Hufnagel's odd guitar sounds, this ex-metal trio shows that their evolution was always deliberate, a removal of superficial layers which slowly reveals a glowing core. Vaura was meant to make this album. Listen to Vista Of Deviant Anatomies in full below.
Santa brought me Mixed Up Kid. It is playing now. It is simply the best thing to come out of 2021, as we continue to mask up, boost our vaccines, social distance and live with political morass.
This is a strange blend from one of my favourite bands. There are parts of some of these tracks which are dangerously close to mainstream (they've even used autotune effects, for goodness sake!), but there are other parts that are so out there they'd give Nine Inch Nails a run for their money (indeed one track is named The Upward Spiral and is clearly an homage).
Also, I'm enjoyi g the album,Not As Good As The Book by The Tangent...especially the so g, Ethernet...what a tremendously melodic and memorable chorus. The last chorus followed by an awesome guitar solo by Jakko Jakszyk...(hope I've spelled that correctly)
Currently playing a couple of pretty obscure albums by Andy Tillison's early Prog Rock band...Parallel Or 90 Degees. This was his band prior to his current band The Tangent.
The albums in question are, Lifecycle and Time Capsule.
Search for them if you can. You will be highly rewarded with fabulous modern UK Prog Rock of the highest quality.
Two new albums out this week:
Go Sanction Yourself by Paul Morricone, who has been likened to a cross between Scott Walker and Massive Attack:
Here Come The Lights by Stephen EvEns, who's quirky pop songs are in turn playful and morose, but never dull:
Both are on Bandcamp.
The Faces take a stab at a Beach Boys tune during rehearsal....they shoulda finished working it out, sound promising.
The new Paul Morricone album, Go Sanction Yourself:
Shouting into the void once more. This should be in the New Releases thread, but I can't find it.
Madra, the new album by Irish dream pop/alt rock band NewDad is a fine collection of songs. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=newdad
This thread has gotten rather lonely. Is nobody else listening to any music?!

I am so loving this one. Incredible. How have I missed them? Put your headphones on and give them a listen.

Not my usual cup of tea so to speak but it definitely has something...

Giving a final listen before deciding to buy. Some nice guitar work on this one. Mainly instrumental. Prog-psych?

“Chinese Restaurant” - Chrisma
Another new release (albeit a compilation of bits and bobs rather than a proper album, but these bits and bobs are quality).
Also recently released, some fine alternative quirkiness from Schnauser:
The Stargazer Lilies new album is out today. If you like big shiny dreampop/shoegaze guitars, you'll probably like this:

The album which opened my life up to live music gigs and, in time, a bunch of musician friends.
Maybe this can explain things a bit.
Disneyland After Dark.
