Ah man, I didn't know...Tony McPhee was always one of my favourite guitar playes.
Groundhogs were superb imo and, although not as commercially sucessful/recognised, as the more prominent bands of the 1970's, they were undoubtably a major influence on many, particularly musicians of the time, myself included.
The 'Great Guitar Solos' thread has been removed, I checked it out, so the guy who posted it must have deleated it....What was in that thread was a post from me outlining a wonderful guitar solo from Tony, on a track called 'Eleventh Hour', from the Crosscut Saw album. It really is quite superb and he must have been fired up/pissed off with something, the day he laid that down....It's a great song and I'll add it below, and the lyrics are just perfect, lyrics which I can directly relate to myself, many times....One of my favourite ever tracks.
Thank Christ for the Bomb, Crosscut Saw and Split are great albums, and if anyone reading this is new to Groundhogs music, you can't go wrong starting with this trio.
Seriously, I'm gutted....soon all those great 60's/70's players and characters will all be gone.
