Tim Smith, driving force of the band Cardiacs and one of the most uniquely creative songwriters, has passed to another realm. I am deeply saddened at the loss of one of my favourite artists. Even though a double stroke and heart attack in 2008 left him mostly paralysed, I always hoped that he may sufficiently recover to find some way of creating music again. As fate would have it, I have been listening to his back catalogue for the last week and a half.
Rest in fadeless splendour, Tim.
Just listened back to Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone from last Sunday where he played three tracks from Cardiacs Sing To God in tribute to Tim. As I turned up the volume for Nurses Whispering Verses, I noticed that the scale goes up to 11. Nice touch, 6 Music.
