Such an icon and his passing, even at the ripe old age of 90 after a long distinguished career, really hits home. May flights of angels sing you to your rest, Mr. Connery.
A shock to hear this, particularly as I thought of him as being somewhat younger than his 90 years . He was an absolute icon and a great actor, (and in my opinion, the best James Bond personification.) He leaves us with some wonderful movie memories. Rest in peace Sean.
Yes. No cause yet. On a Bahamian holiday.
Had a flash of his arched-eyebrow + smirk while driving the other day and then simultaneously remembered my dad’s big grin regarding Ursula Andress emerging from water.
Sad news indeed.....part of our lives those Bond films....
Took my son to see 'The Untouchables' at the BFI last Monday as part of the Morricone season they're holding there, which is a little poignant as it goes.
Time to watch 'Zardoz' and still try to understand what's going on, and lust after Charlotte Rampling......
It was a campy, creepy movie and Sean's hairiness even back then made me wince and even though I was just a hairless kiddo when I first watched it, I imagined that all that hair if it got caught on something would surely bring about painful results. Thought guys should shave it off, like William Shatner did as Captain Kirk in Star Trek.
That floating head in the sky is still one of my favourite images in the history of cinema and so it's one of my favourite movies just because of that.
Men hitting women is just bizarre and as foreign to me as me sharing a bottle of booze with Bigfoot, but ... no one's perfect and Sir Sean was a flawed fella like most of us. That doesn't make me like what he did in films any less. It just adds to the complexity of who he was.
Saddened to hear this news, and quite shocked really.
He was a true movie star, many great big screen performances and a wonderful legacy.
As I heard on the tele tonight, James Bond didn't make Sean Connery, Sean Connery made James Bond..as echoed above, my favourite personification of that character..Iconic films for Connery, even if he had 'had enough' of the role.
Possibly my favourite films of his outside of the Bond role, would be Hell Drivers, The Hill, Zardoz and The Offence.
The Offence is excellent. Although it deals with dark and disturbing themes, if you haven't seen it, it's well worth seeking out...and, Ian Bannen, another excellent Scottish actor, is co-star in this movie and also appears alongside Connery in The Hill..great performances from him in both, aswell.

'ZARDOZ HAS SPOKEN'!

Someone sent me an article today that threw me a bit because it reveals that Sean had a bit of a hitting problem. Maybe he was asking us to read between the lines in the things he said?
