Just found out that Pete Way died on 14 August at 69. He was a founding member of UFO. Quite a character on stage. He left the band a quite a few years ago due to health issues. He also released several Waysted and FastWay (with Fast Eddie Clarke of Motorhead) albums.
That's three members of UFO this past year. đȘ

Oh no, another great musician gone...The whole era of 1960's and 1970's musical giants, fantastic musicians, bands and performers, is becoming a rapidly fading star..I suppose, excuse the pun, not long in reality before it's 'lights out' totally.
I always liked UFO and remember how excited I was at getting their Force It album, as a 15 year old school lad...One of the bands that stimulated my desire to want to play guitar...FastWay were pretty good too, along with another solid guitar player and character, Eddie Clarke, also sadly now gone (quite recently really).
It was what it was, a great era for music IMHO, and we will never see the likes of it again..It was a giant really, so much strength and substance and a wonderful legacy from many, many bands and musicians..we've still got the music in our hearts and souls, and thank God for that.
To reflect back at the sheer quality and volume of great records released through the 60's and 70's, just google any year, 1974 for example, and search 'albums released in 1974', whichever year, and it will knock your socks off..we tend to forget as the years go by and when I did a couple or so similar searches, I was saying, oh yeah, I forgot about that, and that etc...there is a specific site that has very good listings of this, with release dates, chart position etc, can't remember it's name at the minute, but very interesting and well worth a visit.
And let's not forget all those wonderful concert tours and fantastic live performances...
A favourite one for me ( cracking guitar solo from Schenker)
Let It Roll is a favorite of mine too. I am bit older that you. My first was Phenomenon. I like pretty much all of their albums thru the 70's and early 80's. They lost me with Making Contact. That is one of their worst. They recovered with Covenant and Walk on Water. Those later albums are okay but they never equaled the early stuff.
The late 60's and 70's were a great period for music. Still favorites from that time are UFO, Rush, Tull, Be Bop Deluxe, Mahogany Rush, Allman Brothers, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Camel as well as a myriad of one-hit-wonders like Nutz (check out their cover of One More Cup of Coffee), Triumph (The City, Blinding Light Show), Blackfoot (Highway Song). So many great groups from that time. We were lucky enough to see many of them live (lived in SF Bay area). Hopefully you got to see your favorites too. (If UFO play in your area when they resume their ' Last Orders' tour, go see them. They were in top form last year. Phil's voice is still great.)
No surprise that musicians from that time are started to pass away frequently. That ' classic rock' heyday was between 45 and 50 years ago now. In some cases longer. Given the lifestyle one supposes that many lived, it is a surprise that there are still so many still around. After all, we ain't getting any younger either đ
From Covenant (with Pete Way)
Keep your ears open. There is still some fine rock music being made today. Try this one: https://weedpecker.bandcamp.com/album/iii
Sad to hear this. Pete was a legend.
Saw UFO several times, only once with Pete though.
Seems like many of our heros are passing on to another realm.
I would say RIP but he was a bit of a hell raiser and I cant see him resting.
his soul will burn brightly
Did you see them in SF? You're not old enough to have seen them at Winterland are you?
Relatives of yours?

Lights Out tour? I wish, sadly I was only about 5 years old. Not that I hadnât already been to a few concerts but not that one.
Crazy to think that was just a few months before the Sex Pistols infamous last show there.
UFO's last show at Winterland was a co-headline with Rush. Just two weeks after the Be Bop Deluxe / Tom Petty show. Guess you missed that one too đ

Yep. The times were changing. The nice thing about the Bill Graham shows was the mix of groups that played on a single bill. Sometimes quite a surprise. Check this site out:

I use it to remind me of the full bill of some of the shows we saw there. After 45+ years, the shows sometimes run together.
