It's about time every dam in the UK was rebuilt, as they are obviously not fit for purpose anymore! Those poor people and businesses etc. Good luck all x
Thanks for the kind thoughts Alec...all still hangs very much in the balance and I believe more than 6000 people have now been evacuated. I do feel so sorry for all affected by this and hope that disaster can be averted.
If the dam were to breach the devastation would be huge, whole communities, houses, businesses, infrastructure, history and heritage, would be lost.
We live around 40 miles from Whaley Bridge and are not/would not be affected directly, but God alone knows how those poor people are sleeping tonight.
I think with this structure being so old and built using very different techniques and methods from today's engineering, this is going to prove a very difficult problem to solve...Let's hope for the best.
Here some news on the overall situation...Whoever is interested will have to copy and paste the link into their browser to access the web page, as I can't seem to get a 'live' link.
Whaley Bridge looks like a lovely place and the damn dam looks interesting as well. I suspect the problem’s been solved?
