Mr Mayor Sir: How do I go about clearing the notifications? I opened the list, clicked on all of the little red dots and reviewed the posts yet I still see 3 notifications. What am I missing?
Also, perhaps in the next release, you might consider having the ' next page' selection at the bottom of page like we did on the old forum. Or, at the very least, a ' back to top' option. I think that the pages are going to be pretty long with all of the pics.
Hi Merikan1 - the notifications reset once you've visited the notification page, you don't have to click on each entry, however - the count may not 'reset' until you leave the page or refresh the page...if you know what I mean. The notification themselves will stay on the list until they drop off the bottom.
As for the pages and 'next page' facility - we're already on page 2 of this thread, so the pages will grow...
While you are logged in, click on the generic profile icon in the upper right hand corner of any page. A mini dropdown menu will appear. Choose the top option, My Profile. On the next screen, look for your name and that same icon in the upper left. Click the button immediately underneath, entitled Edit. When that opens, click on the 📷 icon that appears on top the profile icon. A window should open up letting you browse thru your computer and change the pic. Good luck.
Ok, let's see how this goes. Apparently I made my Raven captures the Sun logo way too small. It is actually a wonderful piece of art, made out of glass. Preston Singletary I believe. I beta tested the site and used a photo of me at the Seattle Mariner baseball stadium - now named T-Mobile Park. I tried to update the photo to a Salmon Dance design I created in college for my wife. I went looking for a salmon emoji to use to sign off with. On previous boards, I had a tree and then an arrow. Quinault's are Salmon People. Once upon a time I traded some smoked salmon to Shedman for some cd's of his music. He regifted the package to his sister, who said that it was the best salmon she had ever eaten. Quite a complement coming from a Scot.
I am torn to drag over from the previous Bill Board various subjects as I am not a musician, yet I posted in the World and His Wife section extensively, essentially promoting the music of Dreamsville Citizens. I had going on multiple discussions with musicians whom I put into a fantasy Nelsonica USA concert to be held in MoPoP in Seattle. I may rethink that and try to come up with 80 minute career retrospectives to place into a virtual concert box. This would be sort of a Best of collection. But I did not see any entries into my Best of Dreamsville Q-Mix play list. I feel that the Dreamsville Projects are a thing of the past. Following the Dreamsville Project format of creating an 80 minute cd-r of downloadable tunes that folks could create at home. Not being a graphic artist, I relied on Radium Girl, Michael Punslinger and John Izzard for art and lay out. I also worked with Hairy Vike who created covers as well.
C'mon! You owe us a Best of Dar two disc set of 80 minute cd-r's. Disc 1 - Arp. Disc 2 - Guitar. Of course you should throw in your little ditties with Hairy Vike as well. I just cannot do it. You duet. My time as a instigator / curator is seemingly over. You have to be your best DJ and play us off with your choices of what we will remember you by.
But really, I can't stay. I have to boldly go where I still have to go before I go take my nap, and spend my last years not talking smack on the interwebs. At least not where I don't have a good excuse to kill time at (^8
Having used the new forum for a while now, just a few personal observations.🤔
Yes, it IS slow to load compared to the old forum..a backward step?🥴
As much as we all love Bill, the constant loading of his images when clicking on something starts to irritate..and adds to the slowing down of pages loading?🤔
The ’Join our mailing list’ banner is EVERYWHERE! and very annoying..😤
It’s a little harder to navigate than the old forum, probably because of all the above..I know it’s all new and shiny and with time will probably get used it, just thought I’d point out a few niggling issues that for me as a user detracts from the excellent content that is now available here..🤭
I very much appreciate what Jon and everyone has done to update the old forum, which needed a makeover and I hope I haven’t upset anyone with my negative comments.....just a few tweaks here and there might help...🤐
Hi Andy, thanks for your feedback...the best way to try to improve things is to get ideas, suggestions and problems reported to us, but if I can just comment on a couple of your points...
Yes, it IS slow to load compared to the old forum..a backward step?

Personally I have no issues with the page loading speed - it appears almost instantly. The loading speed is governed by the individual's internet connection, plus the possibility that your computer 'cache' maybe full (that often causes pages to take some time to load).
One thing we did a couple of days ago was to reduce the resolution of the background image to a approximately 1/5th of the original size, to see if that made things better for those with slower internet speeds?!?
The alternative is to keep the pages plain, remove the picture and video posting facility, but the whole idea behind the new Dreamsville was to make it a visual treat as well as just a source of information.
To design a website based on the computer technology and internet speeds of yesteryear would be a backwards step. By the time Dreamsville is fully completed and all the pages have been completed (there's many years left of work to keep uploading), then hopefully everyone's household computing technology will have caught up!
The ’Join our mailing list’ banner is EVERYWHERE! and very annoying.
Sorry that you're not keen on this...I barely notice it, but could I just explain...
When the new Dreamsville FIRST launched, the 'join our mailing list' banner was located exclusively in the 'Info' section of the website. Despite countless links and requests from the old forum for people to sign up to the new mailing service, and even though it was a brand new website, after the initial semi-rush, the uptake was fairly slow with a little over 500 subscribers over the first 8 months.
We then decided to locate it in the page 'footer' (which basically repeats on every page), this happened in July, over the next 7 months (to date) we've gained a further thousand+ new subscribers, people are still signing up at a rate of about 4-per-day. These are all potential customers for Bill's music.
I would be genuinely interested to hear any suggestions regarding the placement of the banner...all ideas will be welcomed!
It’s a little harder to navigate than the old forum...
Granted, it takes some getting used to and there are several things that were much better with the old forum. A lot of it is familiarity, learning to browse the forum in a different way (which admittedly doesn't necessarily make it 'better').
Just a few tweaks here and there might help.
This is the difficult part...the forum is an embedded piece of application software. We have some control over the design (colours, layout, font type), but many of the features that we liked on the old forum simply don't exist here (yet)!
However, that isn't to say that the forum developers won't introduce more features (if people request them) in their software updates. So we may find in the future we can jump straight to our 'un-read' posts or click on a member's profile to send them a private message.
The old forum software was such an out-dated version, that it was impossible to bring up to date...it HAS to be laid to rest at some point, so the sooner a new one was introduced the better. Hopefully we can preserve it as reference for as long as possible.
It may be that this forum isn't quite right??? There may be better ones that can be used?
Here at Dreamsville we're ALWAYS willing to listen to suggestions...But we quite like ignoring them and doing our own thing too!!!
@Jon Thanks for your detailed reply Jon..I know it’s a bugger to get things absolutely spot on and please everyone and I‘m sure I’ll get accustomed to the new forum in the long run....I just though a little feedback on how I was finding it would be of some use to you..and by the way, I’m on Virginmedia 100mbps broadband and have never had any issues with speed and loading..
Keep up the good work matey...you and the others do a grand job behind the scenes..👍
Thanks Andy.
As you seem to have a good, super-fast internet speed...if the pages aren’t loading very quickly, can I suggest you try clearing your internet cache on your computer to see if that speeds things up?
Just to throw in my experience on the speed issue...I find it slow and I’m on 300mbps with Movistar in the sunshine of Tenerife and on BT 50mbps in good old Blighty. No speed issues anywhere else on the web. As with Andy, no criticism intended just constructive feedback. Keep up the great work you all do.
I’m really at a loss to understand why some people have speed issues, you seem to have far faster internet speeds than me, but my pages load straight away??? I’ve checked on my work computer, it was fractionally slower, but nothing concerning.
I’m replying to this on my phone using the Wix mobile app, using 4G, and it too loads pretty quickly.
So if anyone has any bright ideas as to why there should be speed issues...any advice is welcomed!
I'm using the same computer (as I expect most of you are) since before the forum change and it is slower. I'm sure the layout changes we can all get used to - but right from the first page loading, it is slower for me.
Well, have some loading issues when clicking on the "Forum" button at the top. Nothing would load. I could go to "Store" or "Music" & things were fine. But not the Forum. Restarted Safari. Nope. Cleared caches. No dice. Clicked through via one of the email notices of a new posting & finally got in. Likely just random weirdness going on.
Yeah there was a forum shutdown for a little while today...not sure why, but I think it was across all of the ‘wix’ forums...weirdly the mobile app version was still working.
The site seems to load fairly quickly for me, perhaps the folks experiencing slow load times are having browser/local internet speed problems?

How do I add a picture in my profile - anybody care to share?

@John Fisher Thanks....will try this later - thanks for taking the trouble to help
Hi All, really like the new look, plenty of photos, no loading issues, its just getting used to it, can we pre-order from Burning Shed now ?

Hey all, I'm in. Glad to be here.
Hi and thanks for the update.
Thanks Jon appreciate all of your work here. Great new look for the website.
Hello goodbye hello goodbye hello goodbye... I'd best not stick around or I might
wander here for 15 years , like someone stumbling into a Faerie world, like I did
the first time, and I don't have 15 years for that anymore!
Love yous all ...

Oh hi! Man its going to take me some time to get used to this layout. Feel kinda lost in space. Where are all the borders?
I really like the green guitar on the left by the way!
I think this may have been mentioned - the new forum is much slower, using the same computer as before. May be the photos/graphics? Just an fyi.
It would be really good if we had an icon to click on the most recent post on a topic.
Trying to log on using android phone and Chrome is really slow, having said that the whole site is noticeable slower to load on the phone than PC.
