i THINK bILL SHOULD DO sTAIRWAY TO hEAVEN BY lED zEPPELIN. hE COULD USE THIS 1940S MOVIE WHICH HAS SOME GREAT bRIT ACTORS. iF NOT, DAMN IT, i'LL DO IT!
oR MAYBE DO THE BLUES -- BUT SOMETHING NEW. i'M ASKING, i'M PLEADING, STRETCH YOUR WINGS UPWARD. tAKE A CHANCE ON SOMETHING NEW. fLAMING dESIRE WAS NEW WITH THE WHITE MASKS (ACTING A BIT AMATEURISH) BUT NOBODY WAS DOING IT. iT WAS A BOLD STEP. aND THERE IS A TON OF EXCELLENT FILMS READY TO BE USED.
rEMEMBER: THE MOON IS FOR LOVERS AND THE STARS ARE FOR LONELY PEOPLE.
ACTORS.
Vlad you are a narcissistic cunt .... please do everyone a favour and fuck off .... there now l feel better 😊
Wow- that was ugly. I dont recall anything remotely as nasty or venomous coming from The Count, whatever his faults may be or inability to filter.. Glad it made you feel good about yourself. Thats undoubtedly a challenge for the obsessive middle aged fanboy types, Im sure.
I'm glad you feel better. I'm asking Bill to try something new. I didn't know that was a big crime. If it is a big crime or an unspoken community bylaw I'll stop.
My response has nothing to do with asking questions..... it’s how the question(s) are framed that l have a huge problem with. Your posts are generally accusatory and self aggrandizing ... l generally ignore your posts .... but this one is so grossly disgusting in that you capitalize letters and use lower case letters .... you do realize that Bill has a degenerative eye condition and writes in Caps so he can actually see what is written.... that typos are inevitable...to mock this is unforgivable.... and your “question” regarding doing something “new” is just another symbol of what can only be creative envy .... he has released over 120 albums of incredibly beautiful music .... ok enough of this .... move on
No I didn't realize Bill's eye condition and that was not the reason I wrote this post that way. It was me doing what I was saying -- trying something new. Further, I realize that there are a lot of 1940s films in the public domain and I know this is the time period that Bill is generally interested in. So I'm suggesting that he can capitalize on this. Yes, I would like to see him doing blues and covers. And I would think a lot of other guitar players on this site would too, seeing that they know his tastes and are into the same music. Bill has experimented with country (think Noise Candy) so why not the blues?
I have said most of this in my previous posts and if you had read them you would have known better and would not make these wild accusations. It is you who has the accusative tone. I have been very complimentary of Bill and give him the full credit that he deserves. Sometimes my praise is mixed with criticism but that is just me being honest about how I see things. We can't always expect to see things exactly the same way and sometimes tastes vary. But we should be big enough to accept differences, especially in a forthright conversation between adults.
tHERE ARE QUItE A FEW 'BLUES' tRACKS aMONGST MY ALBUMS. pERHAPS YOU'VE NEVER HEARd tHEM. Catch up, kid! 😜 BY THE WAY, YOU SHOULD DO 'STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN' YOURSELF. IT'S JUST NOT MY TASTE I'M AFRAID.
nICE oNe bILl! 👍😁
Thanks for imitating my lettering style -- I see you're in good spirits. No I can't think of any strictly blues pieces in your repertoire. I think I only heard you play blues one time with BBD and was surprised to hear it. Personally, I'm not a big blues fan. If my record collection was my musical soul you'd see less that 5% devoted to the blues. I like it now and then -- more so then than now -- and I have no big appetite for it.
Yes, I think I will do "Stairway to Heaven." And maybe even incorporate riding the escalator in the department store of God (love the la la la la section). The above movie "A Matter of Life and Death" was actually titled "Stairway to Heaven" in the US when it came out in the 1940s. There is some great black and white footage of a stairway/escalator to heaven. I though you'd be interested in giving a unique twist to both the music and the visuals. Anyway, I will give it a go and see what develops.
Vlad.....just a few thoughts that may help you out a little on this ….
Firstly, most people on this site are middle aged folk, comfortable in their own skins, who are neither looking for cod 'edgy' philosophies, or scrambled thoughts which tire us out rather than promote solid and cognitive stimulation......we left all that behind in our formative years. We're a little smarter than that, and bemoan too much self - indulgence that smacks of an age who should know better......
Secondly, making multiple suggestions as to what Bill should do is , quite frankly, embarrassing, and you should pretty much stop that now....this may have escaped your notice, but Bill is quite capable of working independently of all of us.....we're the recipients - not the advisors!
Finally, if you have any personal videos or anything else self - indulgent that you feel you wish to share, you should put them on the forum for general discussion.
So.…..get a decent night's sleep, and a proper breakfast - who knows what it might do for you...…….
There is a room for this sort of thing, The World and His Wife. It is where artists discuss their works.
Vlad /Zeus /bLINDEYE ..roadie , give up the dream ... you demand instead of embrace ..you are fkn rude and disrespectful and sly ... keep taking the tablets (the delusional ones )
and stop pretending to be one of the Krypt Kickers
There's an old saying that familiarity breeds contempt. When I'm posting on this forum I always remember how I got into Bill's music via BeBop Deluxe and how things have continued for me since then. Who on this forum has the right to question such an iconic guitarist, singer and composer? It's a bit like telling Robert Fripp that he should play a bit faster.
As fans of Bill we are fortunate that he communicates with us about all aspects of his music and life. He is also coming to terms to the sad loss of his mother so perhaps consideration and kindness to another human being are the order of the day.
Perhaps you should listen to Jeff Beck instead (no disrespect to JB intended)
Just out of interest, for anyone who does enjoy my blues inspired playing, here are some of the tracks that include the word 'blues' in the title. There are of course, other blues based tracks without 'blues' in their titles.

Well, I have finished the Stairway to Heaven challenge I have set for myself (and any others that would want to use film from the 40s). I would like to show the Bill Nelson influences. There will be about three in total. The first ones will be obvious to all BBD devotes. The others require some digging. If you can guess them you are an acolyte extraordinaire!
If I had to choose to either play like Jimmy Page or Bill Nelson, I'd be hard pressed. Bill is more about modes and Jimmy is almost everything but modes. Though every person's style is uniquely their own, they will gravitate to a certain sound and way of playing. I can't remember one song where Jimmy uses modes the way Bill uses modes, especially Bill's playing in Live In The Air Age. Not that Jimmy can't play modes, but the song will dictate some of the note choices as well as what your hand naturally likes to do. Underneath it all your mind, spirit and soul is dancing with your body, a karmic serenade as you go over the waterfalls of life. This version of Stairway has a little of Jimmy and Bill and other notable and strange musical influences. And, yes, the above movie was used but not as anticipated.
.
Very interesting, Vlad. But this should really be on 'The World And His Wife' forum, not here on 'William's World', (which is meant to be dedicated to my own work and interests, rather than the personal music of others.) You are always welcome to post your own music on the 'The World And His Wife'. Thanks for observing this in future.
Yes, under advisement. Thanks for the interest. The video was very quickly done and there are aspects of your work in it as I had mentioned. But I wish you and your fans can see the creative possibilities of movies from the 40s. I think "The Crystal Escalator in the Department Store of God" would go wonderfully with this film footage. Actually, a bit of the Crystal Escalator song was included in last second radio part, very briefly.
I will stop harping on this movie string. On a completely different subject, Bill I know you like interesting song titles so I'm giving you the title "Cathode in the Cathedral" to use as you see fit. Enjoy.
Don't look back.

not bad guitar a bit bedroom but ok
Thanks. I'm not sure what bedroom means -- I suspect the kind of solo you do in your bedroom late at night when nobody's around listening? Ha-ha Actually, it is a composite of the solo from the Leningrad Cowboys, Jimmy Page and Bill Nelson -- with my usual blaze down the neck ending. The guitarist from the Leningrad Cowboys in my opinion plays the best solo for "Stairway to Heaven." He beats Jimmy Page Live any day! You can check him out. Great body movements and his smile at the end is killer.
If you're familiar with the Stairway solo you can hear my Jimmy Page part which then goes to Bill's mode part and eventually ends with a diagonal run down the neck. Part of what strikes me with that solo is that people are expecting to go even higher as the vocal comes in with, "And as we wind on down the road..." (Too bad the singer in the Leningrad Cowboys comes in with a bum note after the solo; otherwise this is a great performance of Stairway) Here it goes simple, dissonant and soft -- prolonging and leading one's expectation through the "doors of perception" to the real climax coming in with the full King Crimson part and visuals. Then we get the "ah ha" moment with a visual of a stairway to heaven. Silently we say to ourselves, "Thank God, we can actually see a stairway to heaven!" So it's kind of moving. My brother said it's a "double wow." The weird thing is all this was done quickly, so I didn't have too much time to think about it. I'm impetuous and just wanted to show what could be done with these older movies. There are a lot of flaws that I'm now in the process of ironing out. What does it all really means? I don't know -- but I have funny interpretation that if anybody wants to hear they can send me an email. Thanks again, Brassneck.
To send this thread off to oblivion I'll post my final version of Stairway. I thank all who commented. I especially thank Brett, Bill and Brassneck who have something positive to say. I would never have dreamed that as I was winging my way to England on BOAC in 1975, and hearing Sunburst Finish for the first time on the plane's headphones, that the gentleman from the band who impressed me (who was probably putting on makeup for a gig miles below) would say, "Very interesting, Vlad" to one of my crude, artistic attempts. I am deeply honored and I hope I have shown my appreciation in pointing out Bill's fantastic guitar playing.
And a black and white All Hallowed Eve's version.
Fairly blatantly ignoring a request that you post this stuff on 'The World And His Wife' forum. Not cool. Stairway up its own rectum, more like!
Yeah, don't get in a flap -- I said this is it. I posted the Leningrad Cowboys and nobody complained. So this thread is the end of it.
