I have in my collection somewhere a concert recorded from the BBC of, (if I remember correctly), Red Noise. As I say I cannot be certain as it might be a Be Bop Deluxe concert. So I need some help please! Bill on introducing; (I think) Out of Touch; (hence me thinking it is Red Noise) comes up with the words, 'Sputum Cups at the Ready'. I want to find this recording which is probably on a cassette in my store room so I can get it converted for play from my server, but could do with a few more clues before I go hunting; i.e. is it Red Noise and if so were the words said before Out of Touch? Does anyone else remember this? I know there is a BBC Radio 1 Friday Rock Show session (17 February 1979) on the latest version of Sound on Sound that includes Out of Touch, but I haven't got this CD to hand to play and check if it is the same track.

Bad news. It wasn't the tape I thought; just interviews and the odd track. Never mind! The hunt continues along with trying to find 'Tape 34'.
It was 2019 when I posted this query. Well, today, 4 years on I think I might have an anawer. On one of my cassettes there is as my label describes, 'Interview with Red Noise, Rock On 18-Aug-1979'. I think I remember the 'Sputum Cups' comment being on 'Rock On' so there is hope. Too busy at the moment to convert the tape, but I hope to do so by the weekend. Fingers crossed!
Ok, here’s your answer... It was a BBC radio ‘session’ .... .Bill says “Sputum cups at the ready” as a spoken introduction ‘instruction ‘😀.... This is because (and I’m mind reading here 😉) the opening notes (synth...sequencer ?) prominent on this track on the session sound a bit like a ‘sputum cup’ being used albeit rhythmically 😂..... On the Red Noise album Sound on Sound the track ‘Out of Touch’ starts with the drums etc...
Red Noise Luxury Box Set that includes BBC sessions, plus 'Old Grey Whistle Test' is fantastic news.
I never said I was going to do anything with the cassette other than play it. I might then capture the recording digitally so I can play it from my PC. I can only just tie my shoe laces so I wouldn't worry about me uploading. I wouldn't know what to do!
Cherry Red / Esoteric Records are planning to reissue the Red Noise recordings as a luxury box set at some point. This will include various extras and probably the sessions the band did for the BBC, plus Old Grey Whistle Test performances. Obviously, the BBC own some of that and anything else is going to be licensed by Esoteric from current owners Warner Bros. I would think twice about uploading any of those recordings for public consumption as you don't own any copyrights to the material and you might get into a bit of bother, not to mention you'd possibly be diluting sales of the reissue. (And lessening my chance of receiving royalties.)
I've found the latest version of Sound on Sound, and yes the track in question is Out of Touch. But, on the CD Bill speaking before it with the sputum cups comment isn't reproduced. Therefore my version has these tracks as per the re-issued Sound on Sound but with the addition of all the banter from Bill, and I think, Tommy Vance. I'll go hunting for the cassette soon and get it readyn for playing.
Intrigued ... but sputum cups ... as in those that dentist provides patient?
