You've described that track perfectly, Tourist. It's an absolutely beautiful piece of music. The entire album is chock-full of, well, jewels. Definitely, a must-have.
Haven't listened to this song in years. God, it comes across like your basic denim clad, hairy pub rock band! 😲 And Simon's drums sound like they're being muffled with towels, (which they probably were as that was an old recording technique back then.)
All I wanted was for the song to sound like the band 'Little Feat', but I guess we were not cool enough to know how to achieve their groovy magic. Oh well...as Dylan once sang: "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now..."
Thank goodness things have moved on, both musically and technically!😄😉
@Bill Nelson well they say “that time loves a hero but only time will tell“ Bill 😬 a Lyric from a favorite little feat song from the album of the same name .... l used to snag that album from my sister and that track plus Rocket in my pocket were blasted often ..... that album still sounds amazing today 👍♥️
When I was a teenager, this song was my go-to for when I needed my sense of strange/sense of surreal balanced with my sense of indefinable and sense of zen/existential optimism. Didn't break it down like that, though, then, just went there when I needed it, like a fix.
..from The Last Lamplighter...it's just an epic album, one of my Bill Nelson favourites, seamless gorgeousness.
I'm not really sure how Bill regards this album, but I really do love it...it gets many plays, seems to get stronger with each listen and I never tire..I can listen two or three times in a row when I play it, and then want another couple of plays.
So, my advice is, if you don't have this gem, do yourself a favour...great lyrics as well, some very relevant to what's happening, and indeed what's not happening, right now..😎
"The Conjurer's Companion" from "Joy Through Amplification" - killer guitars (naturally),heavy drums, rocking hard rhythms & a bone chilling outro. Cheers!
This is the type of mood I'm in with Bill's music. I'm trying to work out of some temporary depression right now...but I am previewing 'My Ship Reclines on Clouds of Sail' from Neptune's Galaxy. It's sounds like a good tonic for me on the Bandcamp support tip.
I don't know if fans know this but 'A Day At West Acre' has a connection to the song '15th Of July. (Invisibles.') Whilst many years separate the two titles, their subject matter is the same, albeit one being a vocal track and the other an instrumental.
'West Acre' was actually the name of a house in Kirkella that I visited on the 15th of July back in 1972 or '73, a visit which inspired me to write the original early Be Bop Deluxe song about a certain girl who I had fallen deeply in love with at that time, (despite, unfortunately, being already married to my first wife.) 'West Acre' was the home of this girl and her parents. If you listen to the song '15th Of July' you will be able to piece the story together.
I think some fans may already know the name of the girl who captured my heart all those years ago, and how she has provided inspiration for several pieces of music since...and 'A Day At West Acre' is one of them. Some relationships haunt us forever...
Well today’s favourite is Loving Tongues ( I don’t want to know what that puts into your head)
it’s a gorgeous song
Listening to this track now.
So cool.
Had forgotten its repeating patterns and the textures. 😊
“The fantastic Futurama ride“ ..... the guitar solo on this is mind tingling ♥️
Stereo Star Map Number One
Twilight Crescent
...Listening to this is like falling through a glittering dream of yesteryear in slow motion.
From the wonderful The Jewel album...one of my favourite releases of Bill's in recent years and highly recommended.
You've described that track perfectly, Tourist. It's an absolutely beautiful piece of music. The entire album is chock-full of, well, jewels. Definitely, a must-have.
Such a track. Thanks for getting me back to this release. 😎
“As the stars began to glow“ from the wonderful “Old haunts“
👍
Another Day, Another Ray Of Hope
Like an Old Blues (2018) ...Boogie!

@steve lyles Very much so Steve, which is sadly more than I can say for 'Like An Old Blues.' But we live and learn...

Ideal Homes......*sigh*
When Art Schools Shaped Tomorrow
..more top-drawer magic, from the fairly recent and rather splendid,
Old Haunts album.
Plastic Mac

Couldn’t agree more Tourist... it is a fantastic set of songs! An album that for some reason get very little mention.
Favourite today is Twilight Crescent followed by Dream Guitar. They deliver so much dreaminess for the listener as does The Jewel in general.
"The Conjurer's Companion" from "Joy Through Amplification" - killer guitars (naturally),heavy drums, rocking hard rhythms & a bone chilling outro. Cheers!
Chroma
Shouldn't 'Crying to the Sky be the track of the day every day?
Skies Are Not Cloudy - Bonus Track from the unreleased album Bungalow Funland (as featured on 'What Now, What Next?'
B-side to Bride Of The Atom.
These Moments Are Ours ...
Forgot how great Stereo Star Maps is, each track a corker, like Tingalary Man And The Scarlet Fever Kid ...
Great choice!...A wonderful album, and Stereo Star Maps is in the top 5 of my all-time favourite Bill Nelson albums...simply stunning..😎

'A Day At West Acre' - from Picture Post. Beautifully wistful, atmospheric piece.
