‘New Mysteries’ has a cool groove.
I maybe hear a bit of a Duane Eddy influence albeit decontextualized and reconnoitered in‘Pretty Little Bubble of Dreams’.
Did you ever download and print out the "fan" cd cover of that? It had the dead cars in a field. I am trying to remember how many radio stations I sent it to here in the greater Seattle Metro area.
'There's an awful lot of Be Bop Deluxe & Bill Nelson on here!', she complained, mildly. 'There's also an awful lot of Van Der Graaf Generator & The Mountain Goats', i replied, 'none of which has come up, presumably because the car has detected that you're in it!' (My wife had never been able to cope with John Darnielle or Peter Hammill - there was a blanket ban) 'Let's face it', added, the car just seems to really like Bill!'
The infotainment screen displayed 'The Birds In The Sky ... ', the ellipsis clearly emphasising the car's inability to display song titles beyond a certain length. 'Do The Birdy Song?', she suggested. 'I',m not sure', i replied, 'think it might be 'Say Hi!' - will check - great tune though!'.
I had the urge to listen to the Be Bop Deluxe classic Japan just now, possibly because I'm currently on holiday in Asia. I remember adoring this track when I first heard BBD in the late seventies and had a copy of Drastic Plastic on cassette. The outro Japanese-style guitar solo was - and still is - astounding, two Fender Strats (?) weaving together major pentatonic scales the way only Bill seems to be able to do, with microtonal inflections on the whammy bar.
Skies Are Not Cloudy - bonus track from What Now? What Next?
My own merry-go-round in the carnival of life. Sadly I equate this with the political situation we are currently in. I have mostly tuned out the carny barkers, but I am haunted by the situation.
Pretty Little Bubble Of Dreams won over another BN convert last night
Was that the track that won the person over?
@Alec Yep - followed by New Mysteries

That call-and-response between piano and guitar, especially, has gotten me addicted the past few days.
