What recent song does BN really open up with his guitar playing? Is there anything that just opens to an unexpected world, like Steve Tibbett's Safe Journey? That was a glorious ride. Even AIAYL does that, or the ending of Stairway. That's what I'm looking for, and I don't know if Tripping the Light Fantastic can be like that on any of its songs. I'm almost tempted to buy it for the first song. But aside from Tripping is there anything else?

their loss whoever it is? get on the beam, and ride the light fantastic, yeah!!!!
I suspect I speak for the increasingly exasperated majority of us who are here largely to appreciate and discuss Bill’s current and future work. Maybe the time has come to ban the egocentric, attention seeking troll(s) who seem determined to make the forum all about THEM, and their tedious and increasingly passive-aggressive criticism of Bill and his work?
I‘m sure there are enough other forums out there dedicated to ROCK guitarists?
Why the heck I should bother replying to such inane and neolithic comments from 'Vlad' (Walter,) or any other tired old dope stuck in the past is beyond me. But, predictably, nothing more than Walter's usual tiresome troll bait.
Anyway, get the wax out of your ears, some bright sparks into your life and tune into the now, or get out of my way. Nothing you or anyone else can say is going to change my trajectory, Don't waste your time, or mine, trying. You know where the exit door is... 😊
"They don't even wear shirts! They wear blouses!"
Yes, I like that kind of guitar intensity. Bill has done it in the past and if he doesn't want to that is fine. I've said that countless times. I can't make Bill do what he doesn't want to do, so what's the big deal? This is Dreamville where you can dream and wish what Bill would do. And this is a forum where you can express those wishes. There is no harm in that. Bill is not a Robot that you just plug him in, and he puts out one kind of album! His fans are making suggestions, expressing their dreams and wishes. That shouldn't be something threatening to Bill or his fans. He should be happy that they care enough to voice their opinions. And maybe one day Bill will say to himself," Jeez, that was an interesting idea I heard on the forum! Why don't I do it!"
In my last post I mentioned that I would like to see Bill and Steve get together because of various similarities: both Buddhists, both are intense guitar players, both are outside “jazz” players. That would be cool. Again, not everybody's cup of tea... but so what! If you are that touchy and offended don't read my posts. It's that simple.
Another thread of brain-dulling misery, this one. Can we go back to talking about the music we do have and enthusiastically came for, please?
‘What we need…’
FFS.
Why on earth do you keep suggesting things Bill could ( or couldn't do)?
Why don't you accept/enjoy the things that Bill does now, and realise that your absurd suggestions are as far away as Mars from what Bill is interested in producing?
If you like those sort of guitar solos and the like, then spend your time listening to old Led Zep and Be Bop stuff from the time that you seem so ensconsed in......but jesus lad - it's getting a bit boring now .......and if you're interested, Bill has done some amazing recent guitar solos - but perhaps that's just not for you. Tripping The Light is full of them, but you might not get how good they are as they're not so obvious as the 1970's stuff which you seem so hung up on......shame for you really.
I'm not convinced you'd embrace 'Signals From Realms Of Light' too well......no massive guitar solos there for you......
I might have been wrong about staring into the Buddhist void. There are demons in Buddhist folklore and some might stare back at you. So Steve Tibbetts, as a Buddhist, may have seen some and reflected that in his playing. That's what I'm sensing here. This is the kind of intensity I like, though you may never believe he was signed to the jazz record label ECM. If Bill and Steve got together it would be a wonderful meeting of outside jazz.
Yeah, Christmas is coming, and the kids are hoping for a great guitar album. Part of me feels that Bill will put out just what he wants, when he wants it. And that is fine. I'm not asking him to change. I'm just reminding him of what he has done before and to access that part of himself -- and maybe he has with an album I don't know, one that the fans are not telling me about. Bill solos are always very good, but I'm looking for that special one that really opens the door. AIAYL on the live album did that for me and was superior even to the studio version. And maybe that's a one-time affair, like the solo from Stairway. I downloaded Tripping and I hear that shhh phased sound that was part of Live in the Air Age and that got my hopes up. Tripping is a very clean album and almost a perfect concert. I don't know if things were touched up in the studio or if there was another guitarist playing. Chances are the other guitar part was prerecorded on the soundtrack. But overall it points to how far Bill has moved away from his past work. So I don't begrudge him moving on and that is what we all do. I just wanted to know if on any song/album he had revisited his former self in terms of a grand guitar solo. Yes, Christmas is coming and Bill looks like St Nick with his white beard. Maybe the kids will get lucky down the road.
great to know, kidz urr dancin' ta bill's music veeeerrryyyy sweet!!!
Oh my God! There is NOTHING! That can't be true... can it? There is no album that opens up to a great guitar solo, like AIAYL! There must be something that comes close to that solo! Dare I laugh, dare I cry... there is nothing! Fans are you purposefully silent on this! Well, maybe there should be an album! Okay, forget the comedy album -- it was a great idea, but people are short-sighted, though Mozart wasn't. Bill should play to his strengths and purposely put out that guitar album! How many guitar players like me would love to hear the epic guitar solo album! Rockers struggling into leather trousers are moody bastards by nature, but they would love to hear a Bill Nelson solo that opens the world up. And there shouldn't be any Buddhist influence on it. Steve Tibbetts got into Buddhism and lost his musical soul (though I should talk after putting out East meets West in the Underworld -- a fantastic song). But Buddhism and guitar solos generally don't mix well. You open up to the void and there is NOTHING. But with Catholics, something comes out of nothing (creation ex nihilo), but that is another matter. You definitely want creation. I'm down in the Dreamville Underworld with Eurydice and the kids. And the kids are asking, "Daddy, daddy when is Bill going to put out another fantastic guitar album, so we can dance to it?" And I don't want to disappoint the tykes, so I said I'd come up here and talk to Bill and his fans. Gosh, I'd hate to disappoint the little ones. So Bill, please put out another epic guitar solo album/song, and I'll be forever grateful.
