Given the wonderful box sets for Be Bop and beyond to Red Noise and Bill’s solo work what are the chances of a Love that Whirls/Chimera box set? I’m sure there would be plenty of material!

Below is my understanding of the complete (known) studio sessions for TLTW.
This is a *very large* number of songs that presumably exist as original multi-track tapes suitable for 5.1 and a fresh stereo remix/downmix.
This excites me, because the complete *sessions* will be presented with a uniform approach to sonics/dynamics/etc.
(I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the original mixes, but they and their masters have a range of dynamics, as you move among the album, the singles, and the E.P.)
For definitive releases such as the Cherry Red boxes, I advocate for restoring the running order of the original LPs. (e.g., Ignore the history of reissues that swap out mixes, add b-sides to the middle of the album, etc.)
Thought of that way, TLTW studio sessions look like this:
THE LOVE THAT WHIRLS
Empire of the Senses
Hope for the Heartbeat (original LP version)
Waiting For Voices
A Private View
Eros Arriving
The Bride of Christ in Autumn
When Your Dream of Perfect Beauty Comes True
Flaming Desire
Portrait of Jan with Flowers
The Crystal Elevator in the Palace of God Department Store
Echo in Her Eyes (The Lamps of Oblivion)
The October Man
SINGLES & B-SIDES
Eros Arriving (single version/original mix)
Haunting in My Head
Flesh
He and Sleep Were Brothers
The Passion
The Burning Question
Hope for the Heartbeat (remix)
Flaming Desire (extended remix)
SAVAGE GESTURES FOR CHARM’S SAKE
(One of these tracks is a home recording, the other five from TLTW sessions.)
The Man in the Rexine Suit
Watching My Dream Boat Go Down in Flames
The Meat Room
Narcosis
Another Happy Thought (Carved Forever In Your Cortex)
Portrait of Jan with Moon and Stars
So, now that the Quit Dreaming box set has finally arrived, I think we can all now speculate on what The Love That Whirls box set will contain!
Based on past reissues, I imagine a remastered album with bonus tracks, a second disc of additional tracks from the era, a remix, and a blu-ray with 5.1. Here's my hoped for tracklisting: would be interested in what others have to say.
Disc 1: Remastered Album
Empire of the Senses
Hope for the Heartbeat
Waiting For Voices
A Private View
Eros Arriving
The Bride of Christ in Autumn
Flesh
He and Sleep Were Brothers
When Your Dream of Perfect Beauty Comes True
Flaming Desire
Portrait of Jan with Flowers
The Crystal Elevator in the Palace of God Department Store
Echo in Her Eyes (The Lamps of Oblivion)
The October Man
Haunting In My Head
The Passion
The Burning Question
Eros Arriving (Single Version)
Hope for the Heartbeat (Remix)
Total Time: 75 mins
N.B. Since "White Sound" appears as track 7 on all other CD editions of Quit Dreaming, a practice carried over to the new box set, I'm leaving "Flesh" and "He and Sleep Were Brothers" as tracks 7 and 8 here, since that's where they have also appeared on previous CD editions.
Disc 2: Session Tracks and Chimera
Flaming Desire (Extended Remix)
The Man in the Rexine Suit
Watching My Dream Boat Go Down in Flames
The Meat Room
Narcosis
Another Happy Thought (Carved Forever In Your Cortex)
Portrait of Jan with Moon and Stars
The Real Adventure
Acceleration
Everyday Feels LIke A New Drug
Tender Is the Night
Glow World
Another Day Another Ray of Hope
Acceleration (Long Version)
Acceleration (Dub)
Acceleration (Short Version)
Total Time: 73 mins
This tracklisting might leave room for a radio session or two
Disc 2: Remix
Repeat of Disc 1 track listing, remixed.
The Kalamazoo Kid has determined that Savage Gestures was part of the Love That Whirls session, so those tracks definitely belong here. Chimera is a tougher call, and so I can imagine it not bring part of this set, leaving the rest of that disc free for demos and radio/live sessions. The two single remixes might also find their way onto the second disc in that case.
I have always said that there is gold in the vaults! Remember we bought Bill a PCF-1 tape deck to access - seemingly - lost tapes of songs in progress. These Tapes Rewind was the result.
Bill's position has always been that was yesterday, today is today and we are looking at tomorrow. Hence the future retroism themes of the album covers. Which is fine - make new music now!
Bill has slowed down, but the demand for his music has not. I believe that the Mayor has assisted in putting together a collection of his Acquitted by Mirrors recordings. These box sets are along those lines of getting product to the people who cannot experience Bill in Concert or on the radio (?). In fact, the recent tidbit of news was a previous concert is being cleaned up for release.
Bill may be in the perfect position of his career now that folks will help him to complete his projects in the final mixing, manufacture and distribution - all the things that have caused him challenges in the past. There is even a digital distribution system in place with Bandcamp. The Dreamer's Companion Vol. 1-3 are a great example.
Perhaps it is my wish to keep providing the income for Bill to be Bill. We even provided money to go from analogue to digital forever ago. So, I say mine the gold in the vaults so some of us and relive yesterday. The sweet/sour experiences of youth. The memories of dreams.
I would have to think if this was when Bill played with Monsoon featuring Sheila Chandra. He contributed e-bow guitar and electric guitar. Both were on Mercury at the time.
On TLTW liner notes it says: "The material on this album constitutes approximately half of the total recordings made at various intervals between April and November 1981. The remainder will hopefully appear in various forms throughout the coming months."
Has anything been released from that treasure trove? That we know about?
One can only hope & pray, this will be a brilliant way to follow Quit Dreaming.
Time to email Cherry Red 😍
Mark me down for one when it's released!
