Her's a blast from the past:. 'Live It Up' was a corny but curious film about kids trying to make it in the pop business back in 1963. It stars a very young David Hemmings alongside an even younger Steve Marriot and Mitch Mitchell. It has appearances by several Joe Meek produced acts of the day including Heinz, Sounds Incorporated and The Outlaws, (featuring a pre-Deep Purple Richie Blackmoor.) Interesting to watch Steve Marriot and Mitch Mitchell doing their child actor thing, a few years before their ultimate fame with The Small Faces and Jimi Hendrix. The whole film is available to watch on you tube. Hemmings, Marriot and Mitchell have all passed away of course, which makes the film even more nostalgic.

What a great film that was. So cool looking and cool choreography.
Joe Meek's material always has this eerie sound and maybe it's partly due to the way that the backing vocals delivered and were produced?
If Brian Wilson knew about Joe Meek back then he'd have been just as obsessed with his productions as much or more than he was with Phil Spector's. Maybe he was, I don't know.
Steve Marriott was really something else. What an actor.! Very Puck-like! Puckish! Someone should've hooked him up with Davy Jones around that period of time.
This film also reminds me of The Leather Boys even though The Leather Boys was released a year later.
Ed Devereaux as 'Herbert Martin' and Joan Newell as 'Margaret Martin' sure remind me of the front cover of Confessions of a Hyper-Dreamer: My Secret Studio Volume II.
Heinz Burt as 'Ron' reminds me of Gary Numan in the Warriors promo
