Went to the Niagra Falls many yeas ago, it was grey and damp. A new version of Sunburst Finish? Hey, I've got much more important things to do with the remaining years of my life than regurgitate stuff I recorded over 40 years ago ! Thanks, but no thanks...
Do Sunburst Finish II as a statement. You are an older gentleman and there will be people that would think your career is winding down and that you're going out with a sunburst finish -- a burst of radiance across the finish line. You can politely say, "No. That is not the sunburst finish I had in mind!" And then you make your statement about what the album is really about.
People will be very curious. Obviously, the album could never be the same as the original. So you're not really regurgitating but adding a lifetime of experience, a culmination of all your musical talents to produce new takes on the songs. John Leakie is still around, and it would be interesting to see if you guys can still do the magic. The buzz would be a killer. There are so many good points to the project I can't begin to count them all.
My proposal still stands. If you want to come to Canada and work with me on the Tommy Bolin song Crazed Fandango, I would pay for your and Emiko's flight over and board (stay either at my place or a hotel in town). You choose the accommodations. I happily volunteer to be your tour guide for the duration, and there is quite a lot to see in Ontario other than Niagara Falls. So I hope you consider the offer.
I agree with you, but also because the Oxygene trilogy are all albums of their own, they're not rerecordings. Jarre also experiments a lot more than just releasing another sequel to an older album, such as Amazonia. I'm glad you do what you do Bill, it's something new!
Hello Alec, Orphan and I are hanging out in the lower reaches of this place... a view with the wife through the window of the world or something like that. Come down and say hello. Yes, Michael Jarre. He put out the quintessential album that got everybody's attention years ago... OXYGEN. Then years later he put out OXYGEN II and maybe now it's OXYGEN III. I think this is a smart marketing move, and Orphan told me that Mike Oldfield even has TUBULAR BELLS III out. So I think Bill should jump on board and do something very similar: rerecord Sunburst Finish. Do all the songs over again. Jethro Tull has done this with their album Aqualung, and it is a charming piece of music -- recorded in the sunny state of Florida. So, as Bill's potential tour guide should he ever come to Canada to see Niagara Falls, I strongly recommend putting out Sunburst Finish II. He could even record it in Canada! And I have the perfect back cover picture should you go to the potential alum covers thread.
I was surprised when I recently heard JMJ pronounce his name. I’d been mispronouncing for a long time. My parents liked the music of his father, Maurice, and so I said, “JA REY” as they did, but so did many people.
@Alec This is funny to me, because my dad does the same thing, and I thought he was the only one who did that! Then I saw your comment, and listened to Houston/Lyon, and someone says the same thing... jar ray...
“Niagara in Winter.” The world of wonders. 1883.
